During Men’s Health Month in June, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services encourages men and boys to take steps toward living a healthier lifestyle. This month is an opportunity to raise awareness about the impact of preventable illnesses and highlight ways to stay healthy, such as staying active, not smoking, and going in for regular medical checkups.

Here are five things men and boys can do to stay at the top of their game: 1. Protect that heart. Heart disease is the #1 killer of men. Wholesome food choices build a healthier heart—fill half your plate with fruits and veggies.

2. Bro, you don’t even have to lift. Getting just 30 minutes of exercise each day can help you live a long and healthy life.

3. Preventative maintenance. Getting regular checkups can catch small problems before they become big problems.

4. Quitting time. Smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke… needless to say, don’t do it.

5. Hey man, you good? Life can get tough, and talking things through with a mental health professional can help. Keep your mind top of mind.

DIY CORNER GENTLEMAN’S BEARD OIL Ingredients ½ ounce jojoba oil ½ ounce sweet almond oil 1 tablespoon fractionated coconut oil 3-4 drops Veriditas Cedarwood oil 3-4 drops Veriditas Sandalwood oil Instructions In a small bottle with an eyedropper or cap, add the jojoba oil. Next, add the sweet almond oil and the fractionated coconut oil. Then, add the cedarwood and sandalwood essential oils. Place the cap on tightly, and shake well. Using your hands or eyedropper, apply a few drops and massage into the beard and onto the cheeks. Brush the beard for the finishing touch.

RECIPE HOMEMADE PROTEIN POWER BARS Ingredients

6 dried figs 2 tablespoons coconut oil ¼ cup peanut butter ¼ cup dried cranberries ¼ cup coconut flakes ¼ cup almond meal pinch of cinnamon 1 teaspoon sea salt 1 cup pecans 2 scoops chocolate protein powder ¼ cup water

Instructions

In a food processor, combine figs, coconut oil, and peanut butter, and process until blended.

Add the cranberries, coconut, almond meal, cinnamon, and salt, and process until the mixture is blended well. Add the pecans, chocolate protein powder, and water, and pulse until the mixture looks like cookie dough.

Transfer the dough into an 8-inch square baking dish, and press the mixture down flat with the back of a spoon. Store in the fridge for at least one hour to harden. Cut into bars. Store extra in refrigerator for up to one week.
