From the immersive, 360˚ audio and visual experience that depicts the creation story of the dwellers of the Spirit Lake to the hand-painted wall murals and anecdotal recollections of members of the tribe, Hoċokata Ti’s 3,805-square-foot public exhibit, Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake, provides visitors with a cultural experience that enhances their knowledge and understanding of the Mdewakanton Dakota people and local history. Come to the Wacipi grounds August 18–20 for the 2023 Wacipi. The Wacipi, or Pow Wow, is a celebration of life and is a chance for the greater community to celebrate the traditions and cultures of Native American people.

The Pathways of Shakopee History interpretive project, a partnership between the Shakopee Heritage Society and the City of Shakopee, is a wayfinding system to help educate residents and visitors on Shakopee’s rich history of people, events, and cultural influence.
