Narrowing of the Streets

The Islands made at the Narayan Mandir Intersection, help the hawkers to sit on the plinth. This creates and inward movement of vendors towards the edges of the roads and therfore the street starts opening up and becomes feasible for movement.

The road between the Site and Krishna Lake is believd to be 7m wide only.

However, major part of the road is lost to Illegal Parking, resulting in traffic congestion. Thus, reducing the scope of development along the lake front.

Creating an Embank ment around the Lake followed by shops along it would provide increased visibility and access to the Lake, preventing any form of waste disposal into the lake.

This zone catered to the users who wanted to engage in Spiritual Activity with the RecreationalRiver.

Implications on Site

Redeveloping the existing market street in an efficient manner, whilst accomodating the street vendors and the shop owners, without causing any form of hindrance to the commuters

Sabarmati Ashram Riverfront - HCP Design

With ample amount of lighting, open space and sea ting arrangements, this zone allows people to gather and spend their time in their own version of Pedestrianleisure.

The regular commuters were taken care of in this zone by allowing visual access to the other zones and physical ac cess at strategic points withoit obstructing their movement.

The Riverfront was divided into various segments according to its use.

Development of the Recreational Zone

Dissecting into Two Levels

3D Model

Creating viewing decks that enable the dWv vifferently abled to have direct visual access. It also helps in creating Landmarks that can help segregate religious groups during festivals.

Replacing the vehicular zone with the Pedestrian friendly outdoor space along with a level that allows physical access to the lake for future reli gious activities and recreation.

The vehicles parked illegally along the periphery of the lake along with the fences, sever the access to it, resulting in on road pedestrian movement, informal settlers occupying the space and dump ing waste in the lake, etc.

Existing Lakefront

Enabling direct Visual Access for the Handicapped

Experiential Section

The Shops have no source of Light & Ventillation. Lack of Urban Planning to organise the market.

The Street Vendors & Hawkers are pushed onto the road, hence creating congestion.

Isuues and Concerns

the Pedestrianl

Lack of Storage.

The Shops are placed on the edge of the lake, which gives them the opportunity to dump their waste in the lake itself.

Components of the Market

The Users are cramped up in these immensely small Shops.

Studying Zone

3D Model

The Integrity of the Lake is hindered with, and by blocking its entrance, the Shop owners are at liberty to contaminate the Lake.

The shops are made with scrap construction ma terial, hence they are not sturdy and reliable.

Shops Fusing Vendors Final Prototype

Development of a Prototype

This arrangement provides more space to both the stakeholders, along with light, ventillation and additional Storage area to the Shop owners in terms of a loft.

A step towards achieving a harmonious coexistence between shop owners without having territorial issues was to start merging them within the same Structural roof, while keeping their individual Businesses private.

Merging3DDrawingsModeltwo

The Street Vendors who are pushed onto the Road have been incorporated within the roof, thus providing them a safe and secure environment that they can rent, to store and sell their goods.

Development of the Spiritual Zone

Provisional Parking Space specifically for the visitor’s of the Hospital.

Existing Context

Congestion in front of the Hospital due to inacurate vehicular circulation makes it difficult to access

Due to lack of space within the hospital itself, visitors need to wait outside in their vehicles or otherwise in the vicinity.

The entire street is used as a common parking space by the visitors of the local shops, thus no provisions are left for the hospital.

Design Proposal

Providing a cluster of seating spaces by the Lake where vistor’s can sit togeth er and indulge in prayers and collective consolation.

Experiential Section

Providing an island as a disciplinary urban intervention that promotes proper vehic ular circulation around the Hospital.

Islands near Narayan Man dir were useful in pulling the vendors away from the street, thus reducing congestion.

Experiential Section

Creating a moment of pause amidst the chaos of the local market street.

Development of the Triangular Park

The site is already surrounded by too many landmarks, therefore it is not advisable to create further competition.

The Triangular Park is used as an Illegal parking spot.

The Preservation of the tree in between needs to be kept in mind.

On one hand one sees an individu al gaining knowledge, on the other hand, one sees people executing their knowledge. The library is a hub that provides a well connected lifestyle for its users.

The first thing that comes to one’s mind after they hear the word library, is books, knowledge, etc. This design goes beyond that.

The space has various stress buster spots and makes one’s experience very convenient eliminating any form of unnecessary anxiety.

It ensures the well being of an indi vidual keeping in mind the sanitation, eateries, zones for children and elder ly. It provides people the right spots to nurture their needs and stay organized and calm while practicing their work.

Located in the heart of Mumbai, the Dharavi project intends to create a space for its people which gives them an oppor tunity to believe in interpersonal growth through employment, education, creativi ty and integrity. Dharavi has diligent people with versatile abilities. However, they don’t get well-or ganized workspaces. The whole idea here is creating a de mand and supply chain portrayed as manufacturing and selling goodsservicesand

There are recreational spaces that will generate revenue for various purposes. The site happens to be an amalgamation of nature and concrete structures. Eventually, the composition of this space leads to the understanding of coopera tion, collaboration and adaptability. This arena intends to create a golden oppor tunity for the youngsters, children and women to come out of their shells and experience adaptability for a bettermorrow.to
