Experience. Elegance. Enjoyment. Louisville’s Award-Winning Wedding Planner 502.749.2445 | www.ShaFox .com

“Trending”…might be the most popular word spoken today next to selfie. For weddings, trends definitely change year after year, and it seems everyone wants to plan what is current at the moment. This happens most in design, décor and fashion. The past 3 years or more the rustic barn, DIY look, has dominated print. The new “trend” is a return to a classic, timeless and elegant affair using letterpress and engraved invitations, elaborate tablescapes and custom linens, 3-5 course plated meals, and gowns designed for a queen. A great backdrop, worthy of such fine details are those found at the Brown or Seelbach. A trend that has never gone out of style is one of the gracious bride; a bride that is kind and welcoming. The beauty that smiles and kindly comments that she loves every gift even though she has opened her third crockpot. Even better, the one whose thank you notes hit the mail immediately, which truly excites the generous givers. She is the bride that, because of her grace, makes everyone else around her more excited for the most thrilling day of her life. So as you plan your wedding, think of what trends inspire you. Are you modern and chic, classic, rustic, opulent, or minimalistic? Whatever that may be, let the trend of graciousness guide you throughout this most amazing journey.

Happy Planning!

Kentucky FRESH WAYS TO PUT A LITTLE BLUEGRASS IN YOUR BIG DAY!

When it comes to Kentucky weddings, adding a little Bluegrass flair can be a fun and exciting way to ‘wow’ your guests.

X

Communicate what you love about our hometown from the

moment your guests check in to their hotel rooms, with a signature gift basket. Include local favorites like Heine Brother’s Coffee beans, Louisville Tap water bottles, Ale 8 sodas, or Kizito Cookies. Make it personal by adding a welcome packet with your favorite places in the city so guests can get to know your Louisville through the wedding weekend. You can even add local publications, such as Louisville Magazine or The Leo to your gift baskets giving visitors a must-read into the pulse of the city.

Louisville and Kentucky have a great culinary tradition steeped in southern comfort foods, northern sophistication, and wonderful ingredients sourced straight from the bluegrass state. Celebrate this with a wedding menu that will leave a lasting impression. Personal portions of traditional fare, like Kentucky hot browns or chicken and waffles, can elevate these fun casual dishes to wedding worthy hors d’oeuvres. A modern twist on southern side dishes, like smoked tomato grits or collard green risotto, can pack a punch on your entrÊe menu. Kentucky is the home of Bourbon, but this state signature has surged in popularity across the world. Your guests are sure to enjoy a bar stocked with small batch bourbons or niche brands that may not have notoriety outside of Kentucky. Liven up bourbon cocktail classics by utilizing fresh ingredients, herbs, or handmade bitters. Ask your caterer to come up with a signature drink that speaks to you as a couple, such as bourbon thyme lemonade, a lavender mint julep, or a rich, blackberry sage oldfashioned.

PHOTO

Creative Photography

Don’t forget to take advantage Kentucky’s network of vineyards for your wine selection. Chambourcin, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, and chardonnay are some of the varietals notably produced by wineries within the state. Try a tasting at Equus Run Vineyards or Smith-Berry Winery just outside the city to find a favorite you would like to feature at your bar. Express the eclectic charm of Louisville while maintaining the polished refinement you desire for your wedding while setting the scene of your day. Equestrian and fleur-di-lis details can be introduced by using vintage horse racing cups as decor or cocktails, gifting these symbols as cuff links or charms to your wedding party, and embellishing your custom stationery. In addition, bourbon barrels can be grouped and topped with glass to make a bar for drinks or desserts, used individually throughout the venue as

pedestals for flower arrangements, or as a keepsake for guests to sign. Lush florals with greenery and large petaled flowers will bring the feel of Kentucky’s rolling hills to your wedding décor.

Experiment with unconventional floral textures, such as berries, thistle, rosemary, and wisteria for a wild flower appearance.

X

Use Victorian era furnishings such as camel-backed couches with dark wood accents to create small seating areas in the reception. By forming an intimate, comfortable space, you create a Kentucky family-gathering feel without losing formal ambiance.

hospitality, combined with exquisite décor, creates an enchanting environment for your perfect day at this grand hotel. Our recent $12 million dollar renovation has taken this luxurious hotel and combined it with contemporary necessities to allow our guests a genuine experience of historic grandeur. The Seelbach, boasting four-diamond luxury accommodations, is the premier hotel in the state of Kentucky. The lavish and impressive lobby of the hotel showcases a magnificent grand staircase where every bride dreams of capturing the memory of her wedding with a photograph on this spectacular hallmark. Featured in "The Great Gatsby" as the setting for Tom and Daisy Buchanan's wedding, the Grand Ballroom offers grace and a magical ambience. Its palladium windows overlook scenic Louisville and will fascinate your guests. The Rathskeller was constructed in 1907 of beautiful Rookwood Pottery and is the only room of its kind in the world. Décor includes an arched, red-tinted terra-cotta ceiling. Tile designs depict walled cities in the Rhenish region of Germany, where the hotel's founders, Otto and Louis Seelbach, were born. For over 100 years, this room has been an intimate spot for social gatherings and is the perfect setting for a romantic reception. The Medallion Ballroom offers classic style, refined with modern features. Turn your wedding into a ball worthy of a princess! It features 20-foot ceilings, grand chandeliers and glamorous gold décor. This space is ideal for Louisville’s most picturesque weddings.

“From the beginning, we had confidence that everhing would be taken care of if anyhing came up during the wedding. The Staff was attentive during the reception, coming and talking to us at just the right times. Whenever we needed anyhing, we just had to tr and someone was ready to assist.” Photos from top to bottom: Amy Shepherd, Stdio E and Amy Shepherd

Planning a wedding is a joyous adventure, so why not make the travels to and from the ceremony, reception and, honeymoon suite an exciting journey too. Herein we introduce transportation options while getting around in style. Keep the size of your wedding party and family in mind when selecting the vehicle type that best suits your wedding needs. Know your pickup, drop off locations and times and clearly communicate them with the rental company. Booking all of the vehicles you will need for the day at once may even help save you money! Brian Segraves, from Xtreme Transportation, suggests you consider shuttling guests for the wedding as well. This is a great convenience for out of town guests especially where alcohol and distance are included. With large vehicles that can accommodate up to 36 passengers, and a staff trained in flawless customer service, transportation of weddings with 250 guests can be achieved seamlessly. Brian also suggests that vehicles be reserved at least a month in advance to ensure availability. Keep in mind Louisville’s busiest times for limousine rentals, such as prom season and Derby week. Check with The Louisville Visitors and Convention Bureau to make sure major events, such as the PGA Championship or a large convention, don’t conflict with your dates. Although it may not be on the forefront of your mind with flowers and cake, don’t forget the convenience that utilizing professional drivers can add to your day. You can enjoy a luxury vehicle, be treated like royalty by the friendly and knowledgeable staff, and ensure you will arrive at all of your destinations in a timely manner. Debbie Hannan, from R&R Limousine, tells us it couldn’t be easier to pick your vehicle and communicate with your driver with their website and phone app! Check your contract for base gratuities applied to your balance. Most already include the standard 18% at the time of booking. Having some additional gratuities on-hand is a good idea because you never know when one of your vendors will come to the rescue! Patrick Kiesel of R&R Limousine remembers a driver being prepared with a bottle of super glue to fix the broken heel of a bride. Showing appreciation for those people that make the best day of your life happen without a hitch is important. Safe travels!
