Dear Breeder,

Welcome to Shadwell’s 2023 stallion brochure. I would like to introduce you to our incredibly exciting roster of young sires.

Firstly, our new additions starting with the brilliant Baaeed. He retires to Nunnery Stud as the highest-rated turf racehorse in the world for a decade. A Shadwell homebred and a direct descendent of our blue hen Height of Fashion, Baaeed has now claimed the title of the best horse Shadwell have bred and owned, since Nashwan held that title for over 30 years. The son of Sea The Stars started his Group 1 winning streak at three years in the Prix du Moulin and subsequently beat the best miler in the world in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. Baaeed then added four more Group 1 victories to his name this year, with the highlight being the unforgettable performance in the Juddmonte International Stakes. Baaeed had outstanding speed, the class over 8f and the brilliance over 10f.

Our Derrinstown Stud roster has been bolstered this year by sprinting star Minzaal. He is the highest-rated son of his mighty sire Mehmas and grandsire Acclamation. Minzaal won the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at two and developed into a Group 1 Sprint Cup winner at four. He won or placed at Group 1 level at two, three and four years and was remarkably consistent. Precocious, tough, with an excellent temperament, he is a great addition to our stallion roster and should be of great interest to any commercial breeder.

Also resident at Nunnery Stud are Mohaather, Tasleet and Eqtidaar. Mohaather shares many similar qualities to Baaeed; a good temperament, blistering speed and a Group 1 Sussex Stakes win. A son of the well-known Showcasing, Mohaather was a Group winner at two, three, and four with exceptional talent. Mohaather has stamped his stock with the same handsome looks, and we anticipate the same turn of foot.

Tasleet has been a model of consistency as a sprinter on the racecourse and at stud. As a first-season sire he is off to a flying start with a Group 2 Coventry Stakes winner in Bradsell, making him a sire of a Royal Ascot Group winner already with his first crop. A good percentage of his progeny have debuted well, and his second crop of yearlings have outsold his first. This is only the start; Tasleet is an upcoming stallion with all the qualities a commercial breeder would want, especially given his exceptional value.

Homebred Group 1 Commonwealth Cup winner Eqtidaar is one of our high-class sprinters. His first crop has been well-received; strong hipped with broad shoulders, qualities which we like to see in sprinters. The son of Invincible Spirit was himself an impressive winner on debut and comes from a speedy family.

Last but by no means least, our regally bred Irish 2000 Guineas winner Awtaad stands alongside Minzaal at Derrinstown. The son of Cape Cross was a 7f maiden winner at two before his glorious Guineas win. He has added two Group 2 winners to his name in 2022; our own Anmaat in the Group 2 Qatar Prix Dollar, and Al Qareem in the Group 2 Qatar Prix Chaudenay. Awtaad is also the sire of Group 3 winners Create Belief and Diamil as well as Listed winners Bellosa and Primo Bacio.

Please do not hesitate to get in contact with the Nunnery and Derrinstown teams with any queries and interest, we would be delighted to help you.

I wish you all the best for the forthcoming breeding season.

Kind regards,

1

Group 1 sprinter with an electrifying start at stud

Tasleet’s first two-year-olds took the season by storm. These included BRADSELL, the emphatic Gr.2 Coventry Stakes winner at Royal Ascot who was one of Tasleet's four runners at the meeting from a relatively small first crop. Bradsell blew away a strong field which included future Group winners Blackbeard, Persian Force and Royal Scotsman.

As he continues to strike with further winners, astute judges have recognised Tasleet's exciting ability as a sire and the fact he is already proven value for breeding both precocity and speed.

Classic-winning miler establishing himself as a proven sire

A Gr.1 Irish 2000 Guineas winner with strong Gr.1 form, Awtaad was also a two-length Leopardstown maiden winner at two. He is now proving himself as a regular black-type sire.

2022 was an excellent year for the son of Cape Cross. Highlights include a Gr.2 double on Arc weekend with the 118-rated Prix Dollar winner ANMAAT, a Gr.3 winner earlier in the season, and AL QAREEM winning the Prix Chaudenay.

His yearlings in 2022 sold for up to 120,000gns, €90,000 and €87,000 etc. at an average of over €41,000. Meanwhile, there was incredibly strong trade for his broodmares and horses in training, most notably during the Tattersalls Sceptre Sessions when prices reached 600,000gns, 300,000gns and 200,000gns.
