Original designs are laser cut from Tasmanian timber and vibrant coloured acrylics and are then transformed into jewellery pieces - some are hand painted or decorated with beautiful patterned Japanese chiyogami. A lot of my designs are inspired from my love of Japanese culture and art and some of my products include origami cranes, sake cups, kokeshi dolls and cherry blossoms and many items are decorated with the paper I have sourced when travelling in Japan. Other designs are inspired from vintage and folk art and various current trends

All jewellery products are designed by Jacqueline Rodemann in her studio in Hobart, Tasmania. The label was started in 2008 and has stockists around Australia. Her designs have been featured in a variety of popular publications nationally and internationally; e.g Frankie, Catalogue, Vogue UK, The Mercury, Peppermint and many blogs and websites. Under the Shade of a Bonsai Tree was a finalist in the 2015 Etsy Design Awards.
Under the Shade of a Bonsai Tree has been a sponsor of Clare Bowditch’s Big Hearted Business conference, Tsuno and various charities worldwide and has collaborated with musician Asta to create a range of tour merchandise.
