Our Love Story

The Brides Version

In 2019, I was coming to the midway point of my 1st year at the University of Essex Around the end of March, I decided to start making an active effort in building a relationship with God I started attending mid-week fellowship more and eventually surrendered to God (and I’ve been walking with him ever since!) In the midst of that, I happened to join the ushering department of the fellowship I was attending at the time (Arise Essex stand up!)

After midweek service, the leader of the ushering team called a meeting to discuss the upcoming Easter production This was the first time I ever spoke to Rojure! The leader of the team had mentioned that our dress-code was to be smart-casual but more on the smart side Rojure had objected by saying he didn’t have anything smart to wear but me, just being the observant person that I am, mentioned that I had seen him in church on Sundays wearing smart attire His response was probably something playful in return but that was it and we went on with our lives without a second thought

Fast forward to the Easter production! I arrived and almost immediately an ushering team meeting was called and I was told I was going to be partnered with Rojure (whom at the time, I didn’t know his name) and that we’d be greeting people from the very first entry point (outside the auditorium) I immediately panicked because, literally stranger danger?

I went to go and ask our good friend Alexandra how to pronounce his name so I wouldn’t disgrace myself lol! She ended up giving me the INCORRECT pronunciation so I disgraced myself anyway.

Anyway, we got into positions and we found ourselves in an easy, comfortable conversation whilst welcoming people. Funnily enough, I started telling him things that you wouldn’t normally tell a stranger but I felt extremely safe with him almost immediately and never second guessed my oversharing

Some time had passed and the praise and worship set was done, that was our queue to go back into the auditorium However, when we got inside, our team leader asked Rojure to stand outside for a while longer - greeting any late comers. For whatever reason, even though I was physically in the auditorium my mind kept wondering outside I kept looking at the time on the clock wondering why Rojure wasn’t back. I even asked the ushering team lead at one point if she thinks Rojure should come back in yet LOL (can you imagine?). I didn’t even know the guy but I guess my heart knew something that my mind didn’t

By end of the Easter production, I had discovered that Rojure could sing - which he denied fervently when I eventually asked him. Nonetheless, this discovery would later spark our online conversations which basically led us to where we are today!
