ONE STOP EXPERIENTIAL CENTER – RECREATION + MARKET AS A PUBLIC PLACE
Throughout history, the market has been an excellent public area It indirectly shaped the city's identity and the people's well-being It has been a significant stimulus for the city's or urban expansion The architecture of the fusion of social and market areas may boost not only social activity but also economic growth. Cities in ancient times were congested yet pleasant on a human scale.
People used to spend more time on the street and in nature, but today all you see is a high-rise concrete jungle with more disorder and less human connection Nowadays, all gated communities have emerged, and everyone's social lifestyle has altered People are staying away from social events and meeting locations People nowadays use internet platforms to engage with one another and even to purchase. People's cultures and lifestyles were highly distinct and social in the past.
Rapid urban expansion has caused us to overlook vital city sites and services, resulting in structures with standards for achieving urban features that are insufficient to establish a public space If we compare the functions and systems of ancient and contemporary cities, the result will be that we tried to fix many problems from the past and ended up with more problems in the present.
As a result of this, there is a need to look at what we need in our public places that display culture and enrich people's social lives

SITEANALYSISAND JUSTIFICATION
Map of India showing Gujarat Map of Gujarat showing Surat Seven Zones of Surat city
Location of the site in reference to the zones.
CONNECTIVITY MAP:
REASONS FOR SELECTING THE ZONE:
• The site is in the western zone of the city that is very well connected to the other zones like the south-west zone, central zone, northern zone etc
• As it is very near to the central zone of the city, it can be very well connected and activities could be easily held.
• Also, the Tapi riverfront project has a very limited land for such projects. Hence, this site fits the best under the government scheme.
Badri Narayan temple
Metro station is 1.2km away from the site.
SITE

BY-LAWSAND CRZ CLASSIFICATION
West zone Population: 4,49,943 people as per 2011 census.
Strength:
• The site very well connects the central as well as the southwest zone and other parts of the city, which can provide very good footfall
• The scope of the centre with many urban activities can be very well developed as the zone lacks public and recreational spaces
• The major part of the site is a residential zone Hence, the project very well connects with the people around as well as from the different zones
• Traffic is not an issue near the site
• The site has a nearby cricket academy on its southern side. Hence, it can make the site more interactive with people having different interests.
Weakness:
• Currently, there is very less interaction between the people and the river
• Due to the river drying out in other seasons except for monsoon, there is a soil disposal issue in the river that has led to the increase in height of the river belt every year as the soil settles down ( brought by the flowing water)
• There is no strength to the river edge
• Issue of height increase of the contours
• No access to the boats due to the heavy soil disposal and lack of water in the river
Opportunity:
• The site can be turned into a potential place that very well celebrates the river
• It can be an iconic centre for all kinds of visitors from different regions
• Ariver edge as a site can be used to develop a public place for the city
• Around the site, there is agricultural land provided by the government that goes well as a landscape context around the site that makes the site more attractive
THREAT:
• If the river edge is not treated well, there is a chance of flooding during heavy rainfall

RECREATIONALACTIVITIES INTRODUCED IN THE PROJECT:
Recreational activities are considered as a set of activities done during the one’s leisure time such as social gathering, dramatic spaces, musical, cultural and other outdoor activities, cultural-entertainment etc.
Different recreational spaces have different functions and activities that delivers a particular character to the space
Certain character of a place attracts people with different social, cultural and economic backgrounds

• The current site condition states that the site may face a flooding situation during the heavy rainfall in monsoon season
• To solve this condition, Surat municipal corporation is going to raise the level of ground by 5M and then there will be an edge treatment for the river
• Also, the soil disposal issue shall be solved, as government is trying to level down the river contours, as it got settle due to the drying out of the river that carried sand
Another concern is the view of the river If we take a block and place it then we would get a strict visual pattern and strict view of the context
Hence, a river needs to be visually connected
Hence, in order to achieve 360 degree view, the mass can have a circular form with a journey of experience
SITEAPPROACH AND ZONING
• Because the majority of the zone is connected by the Sardar Bridge, the public may approach the site from the south-west But, because it is in the south-west zone, it requires a series of trees to help to overcome the sunshine
• To accomplish a journey of experience, multiple approaches will not be beneficial Therefore, there needs to be a single entry and exit
• The initial site zoning is done according to the coastal regulation zone, the region coming under the CRZ-II zone is considered as a recreational area and the region after the CRZ-II is taken as a commercial block where the market shall be placed
1. Placing the mass in the site
2. Creating the central green spaces in the centre whilst breaking the mass
3. Splitting the mass to create a circulation within the mass
4. Twisting and adjusting the mass to make a best visual connection in the built mass
5. Creating the street like space and a journey within the space
6. Lifting the mass and connecting it to get the view of the river
Connecting the mass with the services and make it fully accessible.
Finding a possible area to place the mass on the site.
Visual connection of the built mass on the site.
Flow of activities in the site
Now, placing the geometry at the intersection of the axis. Taking circular geometry to get the best possible view and circulation.
Rivers, as we all know, play an essential element in the development of a city. In this project, I attempted to include public spaces and leisure activities into the public experience of the city. With the city rapidly urbanizing, there is a demand for public spaces throughout the city.
Also, as I see it, public places are essentially organically generated, and they control the space for their own purposes, which is the beauty of it. People, in my opinion, become tired with locations that provide the same purposes all the time.
Similarly, I created some parts of the site to be utilized in the way that the public expects them to be used It may occur in a variety of activities such as music, dancing, skating, or cycling. The project's experience changes during the day and night, as well as seasonally.
While shopping and thereafter, you may partake in leisure activities, exhibits, and social contact while admiring the wonderful view of the river. Today, there is rapid urbanization, roadside kiosks, and food trucks, but what we lack is good and secure public spaces in cities where people truly like being sociable and outside their homes.

View From The GHAT:
As we all know, rivers play a vital role in India, and the Tapi River is no exception. Surat residents have strong religious and historical ties to the river. The ghat faces east and is thus built to allow people to participate in different water-based activities both during the day and at night. Also, because of its elevation, it may be used as a public resting area in the evenings because it prevents sunlight from entering.

SWARAJ ASHRAM REDEVELOPMENT
As we have seen, the importance of the swaraj ashram was lessening gradually and due to the lack of activities, it was closing down or within a few years, the significance would be gone.
Hence, there was a need for the restoration of the ashram. The street is developed for all the communities and the visitors that can engage and make this an important destination for the people.
This street sets itself apart and is different from the other streets with sustainable use of materials
The ashram is regenerated by the provision of a skill development center that helps the people to understand the old technologies and generate an economy. As there were dead spaces, the provision of recreational spaces helps people to upgrade their living standards and visit the ashram on the regular basis
– A SKILL DEVELOPMENT CENTER: ChangingtheperceptionofBardoliTown.
• There was a need for the site edge treatment, hence, to make space and create an active street, the site has been designed for people, tourists to come and engage with the journey.
KEYPLAN
• A sitting space is provided with an engaging journey with a shaded walkway with the help of trees.
• Footpath has been widened to generate more public activity near the Ashram.
• Proper space has been provided to the food vendors.

View From The Street:
Before the street was developed, it had uninvited food vendors and stalls and illegal parking near the site. That could degrade the importance and the significance of the swaraj ashram.
View From The Street:
The street is covered with different trees, hence, during the day time, people can still use it as they want.
View From The Street:
For the compound wall, there is a use of jalis and mural art. So, when the visitors come to Bardoli they can perceive it and would make it hard to forget the place.
