Making Sense of Qualifications and Choosing the Right Learning Pathway

There are a wide range of academic and applied subjects that students can choose at Key Stage 5. Choosing which subjects you would like to study depends on what you have been good at and have enjoyed in the past and what subjects you need to enter a particular career or degree course.

All of our courses are generally studied over a two year period and you will be given advice and guidance about your study programme during our admissions process.

Academic Qualifications, such as A levels, are subjects that students may be familiar with and have studied at GCSE. The assessment of academic qualifications is largely linear through terminal examinations at the end of the two years. A number of academic qualifications have a small amount of non-examined assessment (NEA) that contributes to the final grade.

Applied General Qualifications, such as BTECs and Cambridge Nationals, are qualifications that offer learning in a vocational area. They combine practical learning with developing knowledge, understanding and skills. The assessment of applied general qualifications often have a significant amount of coursework that contributes to the final grade.

Other academic qualifications that students can take to supplement their other subjects are Core Maths and Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Entry Requirements

Offers for our Academic pathways are conditional upon at least five 9-4 grades at GCSE or equivalent qualifications in addition to meeting the specific entry requirements for the different subjects.

If you have not already achieved a grade 4 in English and/or Maths GCSE you will have to continue to study these in addition to your other courses.

Please see our Course Directory on our website for further details.

Transport

Students are able to apply directly to West Sussex County Council for concessionary seats on Local Authority bus routes. The current charge for these is approximately £630 per year, this can be paid as a one-off, termly or over a 10 month period. This money must be paid before a bus pass is issued. Concessionary travel is not available on public transport. If your family is in receipt of Income Support, Family Credit or Job Seekers’ Allowance, you may be eligible for assistance with transport costs from the 16-19 Bursary Fund, which is administered by the school.

Sixth Form Fund

We kindly request a voluntary contribution of approximately £80 on acceptance of a place, this is a single payment. All monies go towards funding a Higher Education Convention visit, an induction programme and provision of recreational facilities in sport and fitness. A refund of the contribution will be made if a student does not take up their place in September 2024. Due to current circumstances, this is a provisional as some of these events may not go ahead.
