Flourish at SGS

Our aim is that every student flourishes at Steyning Grammar School; we want to help every child find their talent. We have a comprehensive programme in place that ensures all of our students are well prepared for their examinations and are proud of the fact that our results identify us as a very successful school. However, we also recognise that for children to grow up and be happy and successful adults we need learning to be wider than just about the academic.

Students and adults ourish at Steyning Grammar because the Christian vision is at the very core of the school.

Steyning Grammar is a leading school in the delivery of ‘Character Education’ - the development of positive character strengths in children that will help them to flourish at school and beyond into adulthood.

A Supportive, Safe and Caring Environment

Our ethos is underpinned by the ‘Steyning Family’, where everyone matters and is given the same chance of success. We have two KS3 campuses, Rock Road and Towers, which provide a nurturing platform before moving on to our KS4 and KS5 campus at Shooting Field.

Whilst we encourage students to become independent learners, we also provide support and guidance to ensure each student is encouraged to reach their full potential. Every student has a Form Tutor and they are encouraged to participate in the life of the Tutor Group and in the school as a whole. Heads of Year liaise closely with the Form Tutors, monitoring academic progress of students, whilst pastoral support is provided by non-teaching staff. This ensures that every student is encouraged to achieve with challenge and support.

A Broad and Balanced Curriculum

Our key school development priority is effective learning in every classroom. Through the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum, students have the opportunity to pursue a variety of qualifications that will enable them to succeed in life. We believe that students should enjoy their time at school - we want your child to be confident, comfortable and challenged both during lessons and during co-curricular activities.

Digital technology is one tool of many that teachers and students use across the School to help ensure that world-class learning takes place. We introduced a one-to-one ipad scheme in 2021, since its introduction this has supported and had a very positive impact on students learning.

Creativity & Sport

We offer all students the opportunity to develop interests and skills which will continue to enrich their lives long after they leave school.

We celebrate the creative progress and development of young artists, designers and performers. Arts events throughout the year allow us to celebrate student progress and achievement. Extra-curricular opportunities are extensive and include specialist art workshops, music lessons, technology clubs, drama clubs and cultural trips nationally and internationally.

Sport and physical activity is an important aspect to life at SGS. We are fortunate to have outstanding sports facilities on site and offer an extensive programme of co-curricular sports and physical activity clubs. Every year we compete in numerous local, regional and national competitions with considerable success.

SGS Boarding

At SGS we offer affordable full, weekly and flexi state boarding options, with outstanding pastoral care. Entry at Year 9 and Sixth Form.

Our boarding options, with Ofsted Outstanding pastoral care, are an ideal fit for students who want the advantages of a familiar UK day school, set in a beautiful location.

The atmosphere amongst the boarders is a happy, fun-filled one, and relationships between the different ages, backgrounds, nationalities and genders is instantly noticeable, creating a real sense of community and a home-from-home. Academic support is available seven days a week, giving students every advantage possible to ensure their success.
