PREPARING FOR UNDERGRADUATE CHARTER

o Graduate chapter must elect/appoint two Beta Sponsors. Best practice: Do this early in the planning process so the sponsors can receive training from the National Dean of Sponsors. Planning early will also allow you to network with other chapters who have thriving Beta chapters.

o Chapters shall request an Advisor (University/College School of Nursing) to insure a support system for the undergraduate chapter. Some schools require the advisor to be a member of the organization.

PREPARING FOR UNDERGRADUATE CHARTER o PLEASE make sure to discuss of the level of responsibility as a chapter if considering organizing an undergraduate chapter. Beta Sponsor(s)/graduate supervision is required at all undergraduate events. o There is a separate process for becoming a campus organization that happens prior to being able to go on campus and recruit students! Be patient! o Be aware: University/College campuses are inquiring about or requiring liability insurance. Liability insurance is the responsibility of the graduate chapter.

HIGHLIGHTS Graduate 1. Graduate chapter requires a minimum of twelve (12) prospective candidates to organize as a chapter. 2. New graduate chapters must be more than 50 miles from established active graduate chapter. 3. Nurses chartering new chapters can be retired however they must have an active license as a registered nurse.

2. A minimum of nine (9) prospective candidates/nursing students are required to organize as a chapter. Best practices: (1) Recruit more students than needed to organize (2) Recruit students from all eligible levels of nursing program to increase chapter viability.

Undergraduate 1. Permission to organize/charter a new Beta chapter must be obtained from the University/College/School of Nursing/Student Affairs administrator in writing on chapter letterhead prior to starting process for organization.

3. Undergraduate chapter must be within 25 miles of the graduate chapter as per current bylaws.

Role of National Dean of Membership • Send service letter email to all chapters. • Conduct biannually or as needed meetings with all Chapter Deans of Membership and Beta Sponsors. • Responding to the Membership inquires from the National website

Conclusion

• Qualifications to become the NDOS starts at the local level with becoming a local officer and being sure to attend regional and national conferences.

• The role of the National Dean of Sponsors is that of an advocate for Beta Sponsors and Beta Members of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated®.
