Vigil for Texas Obama administration asks shooting victims Supreme Court to review DOMA inspires community The federal Department of Justice has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review two DOMA cases, Golinski v. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and Massachusetts v. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). “[T]he Solicitor General today filed in the Supreme Court of the United States a petition for the issuance of a writ of certiorari before judgment with respect to the pending appeals in [Golinski v. OPM],” the DOJ said in a letter to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which currently has jurisdiction in the Golinski case. “At the same time, the Solicitor General also filed a petition for writ of certiorari to the First Circuit in Massachusetts v. HHS, which, like this case, presents the question of the constitutionality of Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA]. Patty Murray tops list Approve R-74 center opens on Capitol Hill of pro-Gay senators FILE PHOTO

Democrat Patty Murray of Washington state has tied for first place on a list of pro-LGBT U.S. senators prepared by ThnkProgress.org. “Any time you’re recognized for going out and fighting for your constituents it’s nice,” Murray said in a statement to SGN. “But the truth is, in this case, my efforts are built upon the struggles and tireless advocacy of men and women in the LGBT community who have dedicated much of their lives to this cause. They are the ones who deserve the credit and they are the people who I will continue to rely on because, as we all know, there is much more work ahead.” Tying Murray for the top spot were Sen. Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii) and Sen. John Kerry (DMass.). The three senators have each sponsored or co-sponsored at least 13 of the 16 explicitly proLGBT bills introduced since the start of 2011.
