Kitty Kitty Bang Bang sings at AMDEF Extravaganza

by Ryan Muller AMDEF Founder The annual Art, Music, Dance, Entertainment, Fashion (AMDEF) show is returning to Capitol Hill August 23 at Neumos (925 E. Pike

St.). This time there will be even more diversity than ever before! Drag Queens, Fashion Designers, Vocalists, DJs, Suspension Artists, Aerialists… you’ll find everybody working together to present over six hours of community-building

collaborations onstage. What’s unique about AMDEF is that every featured artist is challenged to partner with talent from a different creative background to co-produce each act. This is where weird meets elegance, wild meets so-

phistication, and Art, Music, Dance, Entertainment and Fashion unite. Many of the acts showcased throughout the night are cultivated between talents who’ve never met. The end result is an eclectic atmosphere of inclusivity for a new and welcoming experience to all attendees. One of the most distinctive events to hit Seattle each summer, the 7th Annual AMDEF promises to be a sold-out explosion of local, national, and even international acts. With world-renowned pole dancer Pantera Blackmith returning to her hometown, internationally recognized San Francisco designer GG Connections collaborating with Mr. Seattle Pride 2014 Eric Blu & The Soul Revue, and nationally acclaimed band The Staxx Brothers, this year’s event features 150+ talents for a one-night-only experience. In addition, the entire event benefits local non-profit organization Social Outreach Seattle, uniting under the motto, “We are one community, working together.” The AMDEF 2014 Talent Roster also includes a collaboration between Jack Mozie, DeLoach Wear, and the Drag Queens of So-

cial Outreach Seattle, a mash-up of Vocalism and Sideshow between Kitty Kitty Bang Bang and Wreckless Freeks, a Burlesque/Fashion Fusion between Sinner Saint Burlesque and Paper Dollz Clothing, a Suspension/Runway presentation by D.N.A.S. with a surprise twist, a Body Paint/Aerial set with Artifakt Art and Goody Goody, a HipHop showcase presented by Billy the Fridge with Twisted Trystan, Free Whiskey, Duranged Pitt, and Hawk Gang Clothing, a choreographed Dance/Fashion mash-up by Alien Earth Designs, Levels of Movement with BubbleGunk Designs, DJ Sang-Do with suspension by Red X Roper and a runway segment by Paper Dollz Clothing, DJ Wendall of Anadamide Records with a Fashion/Pole Danceoff featuring designers A Little Risque, Backpack Girl Bikinis and Pole Dancers Dimeatra Dee, Plane Jane, Sweet Sarah, and Liz, Marie, and Emily of Dolphin Dance Studios, individual performances by Jesse Belle-Jones, Little Lady Tatas, Dona De Cuori, Nikola TeaseLa, Jolene Dickerson of Afterglow Aerial Arts, and more! see AMDEF page 4

MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT Now playing Stanley Crawford (Colin Firth), performing in the guise of an elderly Chinese wiseman with the nom de plume Wei Ling Soo, is the most celebrated magician of his time. One night after a show, his see Time page 7 best friend, fellow stage magician

Howard Burkan (Simon McBurney), comes to him with a challenge. Seems a clairvoyant named Sophie Baker (Emma Stone) has been using her unproven talents on the wealthy Catledge family, mother Grace (Jacki Weaver) certain she’s contacting her dearly departed husband, while supercilious son Brice (Hamish Linklater) claims to be falling in love with the young American.

Never one to back away from a challenge, Stanley eagerly departs for the Catledge’s Côte d’Azur estate in order to debunk Sophie’s powers and show her to be a money-hungry charlatan. Problem is, the arrogant nonbeliever has trouble doing it. More, he’s actually quite smitten with the much younger, exceedingly attractive see Moonlight page 8
