Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School (SFXCS) is marching towards a cleaner earth with its Season of Creation, Eco-Walk 2024 in coordination with Saint. Francis Xavier Parish Diocese of Novaliches (SFXP) towards the theme: “To Hope and Act With Creation” on the 5th of October.
The Eco-Walk is a 2.1-kilometer walk event that commemorates the act of preserving God's creation through acts of cleaning the surroundings. It was widely attended not only by the community of SFXCS and SFXP, but also by other neighboring schools and organizations.
The Eco-Walk spanned around the streets of Sampaguita, Ilang-Ilang, Margarita Hills, and Magalang. It was spearheaded by four groups: Earth, Fire, Air, and Water. These stations represent the elements vital to nature Scattered across the designated path for the event are prayer stations led by each respective group
Onlookers were met with a roaring drum-and-lyre parade paired with musical prayers broadcasted from speakers roaming along with the groups. Attendees walked along the path towards all four prayer stations, carrying garbage bags and collecting nearby trash as they strode
As the groups met in each prayer station, all settled down as the nature group representing the station led the prayer session, until they reached the parish to commence the final prayers
Rev. Fr. Simone Piccolo SX, one of the event coordinators and the parish priest, stated how this event can change the hearts and minds of the people towards taking action in preserving our nature
"I believe that just to have this event made them to think, 'ano ang gagawin ko, kasi narinig ko itong mga salita...' Sometimes, with just one word, it is enough to touch our hearts, and to say, 'maybe, I should commit myself. Sana ito na, sa ating puso na iyon kailangan ko i-commit ang aking sarili para sa kalikasan din.” he stated.
Ms Cayone, also one of the event organizers and a lay missionary from Spain staying with the Mercedarian Sisters, expressed the success of the event, which was made possible by the active participation of the attendees.
"We've gathered all of you, and we saw other people picking up the trash, and joining the prayers, they've learned something." she stated.
The Eco-Walk follows the unifying theme of "Laudato Si", a message by Pope Francis calling everyone to care for the common good.
To celebrate All Saints' Day, Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School (SFXCS) held its Parade of Saints, commemorating various saints, and the giving of Saintly Treats at the SFXCS Covered Court on October 29, 2024
During this annual celebration, learners dressed as "little saints," with some costumed to represent their class's patron saint, paraded around the streets of Santan to uphold the sacred value of All Saints’ Day, a special day to honor our saints

The Miting de Avance of the running party-lists TwoNay and BINI for the 2024-2025 Student’s Coordinating Board (SCB) has concluded on the 13th of August 2024. It was held inside Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School’s (SFXCS) library to finally wrap up the campaigning period of the running parties
The Miting de Avance serves as the final campaigning rally of candidates to help voters decide whom to consider for the respective positions they are running for, as well as to address any final concerns This will help the Xavierians to know who deserves to be part of the SCB for the whole school year.
Two party-lists are currently running for this school year's SCB elections: BINI party-list and Twonay partylist.

“Meron akong past experience in leading, kasi three years na akong SCB Officer, and pangalawa, confident ako, magaling ako sa public speaking, journalist, and syempre, higit sa lahat kaya kong pag sabayin lahat,” he said
As stated in an interview by Ms. Alma Jose, SCB Adviser, one characteristic that every student must consider in voting a leader should be authenticity, a trait that defines someone as exactly what they claim to be.
“Yung kailangan i-consider ng mga estudyante sa pagboto ng mga leaders especially for SCB is, one yung authentic, yung may authenticity Ibig sabihin no’n yung talagang nakikita nila na, this person is running not only for fame but really to give service,” she stated
For other students who will be participating in the election voting, they believe that a leader should be approachable and able to listen to the voices of the masses
"Para sakin ay ‘yung madaling makausap at madaling lapitan na leader Shy type kasi ako," according to Zymeth Sanbuenaventura, a student from Grade 10Saint Francis Xavier.
"'Di lang puro pangako, dapat kumikilos, at nakikinig sa boses ng sambayanan," said Allen Caballero, a student from Grade 8 - Saint Claire Of Assisi.

Every recollection began by an Eucharistic Celebration at Saint Francis Xavier Parish (SFXP), SFXCS invited two speakers, Brother Allan T Tura and Junior Gianan to give an inspiring talk to the learners
As the Christian Livelihood Education (CLE) Coordinator, Ms. Victoria Montenegro emphasized how recollection strengthens one's faith and relationship with God, stating that the event isn't just for Catholics, but for everyone.
"Para siya sa spirituality and growth ng bawat learners kaya nga yung recollection hindi lang siya para sa Catholic learners natin, kundi para sa lahat," she stated
Brother Allan T Tura, speaker of Grade 8, 9 and 11 learners shared his past experience, of how he became a speaker in the field, revealing that it gives him joy and fulfilment to have the chance to do so
"It's because of one instant, tapos sa isang instant na yon, nag reflect ako, ano yung tinuturo nito saakin?... kaya every time ako na-iinvite, I feel joy, and fulfilment," he said.

Saint Francis Xavier Parish (SFXP) held a Holy Mass on December 9, 2024, for the celebration of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.
The Mass started at seven in the morning at SFXP and was presided by Rev Fr Eugenio Pulcini, SX, the Parish Priest The idea that the Mother of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, was born without original sin is celebrated on this Holy day, making it possible for Mother Mary to be a Pure Vessel in which to carry Jesus Christ, the Son of God
Students from Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School (SFXCS) reflected that amidst the hardships of schoolwork, attending the mass offered them a moment of peace The Homily reminded them that Mary too faced hardships, yet she trusted God’s plan, inspiring the learners to find faith and trust like Mary
Celexa Fei Dione Zapata, a learner from Grade 8 Saint Therese of Lisieux, shared that she was inspired by the faithfulness of Mary who remained humble and pure despite her many challenges, a value she sought to imitate
“Sometimes there are too many things to think about - quizzes, deadlines, and stress at school - but during mass, especially when I heard the homily about Mama Mary, I was reminded that even she, too, went through hardships but just trusted in the Lord's plan ” Zapata stated
The date for Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary was moved to December 9 to preserve the Second Sunday of Advent.
Guiding young researchers through the world of research, esteemed professors from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) coach Grade 12 learners across Roman Catholic Bishop of NovalichesEducation System (RCBN-ES) schools in its RCBN-ES Student Research Symposium today, the 20th of October, at Le Lieu de St. Bartholomew Events Place and Pavilion.
Over 250 learners from different RCBN-ES schools participated in the symposium, representing their own strands: Accountancy and Business Management (ABM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and General Academic Strand (GAS)
Following the theme entitled "Inspiring Young Researchers to Advance Knowledge through Research," this event provides a venue for graduating learners to develop their research skills to fuel their own curiosity to advance knowledge and solve problems.
Rev. Fr. Albert N. Delvo, the SuperintendentDirector of RCBN-ES, gave the opening remarks of the event with an emphasis that our curiosity to gain knowledge should also be allocated towards solving contemporary issues affecting every individual
"We are curious, we want to explore, we want to discover, we want to gain knowledge, we want to contribute to the body of knowledge worthwhile, especially our country But we do not just stop there; we have to situate that our curiosity for knowledge is intended to address challenges and problems [that are troubling] all of us, individually, collectively, and as a country, as citizens of the world," he stated
The event was then spearheaded by distinguished professors from UST, who will lead interactive plenary sessions to provide insights on conducting research Namely these professors are Dr Louie B Dasas, PhD, the Assistant Dean of UST College of Education; and Asst Prof Alvin Ringgo Reyes, MA, the College Secretary of UST College of Education, who are renowned for their mastery in research
After the plenary sessions, learners were grouped into different breakout sessions according to their strand, where they are tutored by their respective speakers who are esteemed professors from UST.
One of the attendees of the event, Frances Angel Felicio, who is currently a Grade 12 learner and part of the Student Coordinating Board Secretary of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School (SFXCS), learned that passion drives curiosity and ambition, and that she should follow her own heart in conducting a study she will enjoy
"All the speakers in the symposium, as well as our instructor during our breakout session, told us to do a study that is really close into our hearts and what we are passionate to do, in the sense that it will contribute to our fellow Filipinos," she stated
"As stated by one of our speakers, research should serve the people. And yeah, I agree, because research should really inform and have a contribution to the body of knowledge," she further added
In senior high school, the Practical Research subject serves as a requirement for learners before graduating to college This symposium aims to provide tips and tricks in approaching common adversaries and pitfalls in research writing that learners can apply in their own research study

Alice Guo, the dismissed mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, faces charges of human trafficking, corruption, and money laundering after her alleged involvement in illegal POGO activities was uncovered in a 2024 police raid.
Guo Hua Ping, originally from Fujian, China, became a naturalized Filipino and was elected mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, in 2022 Her tenure, however, became controversial due to alleged involvement in illegal activities
In 2019, Guo founded Baofu Real Estate, leasing properties to POGOs, including in Bamban, Tarlac Allegations linked her to illegal activities, with Senators Risa Hontiveros and Win Gatchalian highlighting her ties to banned POGOs after raids
"She had an active participation from the start all the way when she became mayor These pieces of evidence are very strong Even if you refuse to talk, it will speak for itself,” said Gatchalian
A 2024 police raid in Bamban uncovered cyber scam operations and human trafficking, linked to Chinese gangs running "pig butchering" scams, where fake relationships trick victims into fraudulent investments Investigations revealed that Guo facilitated the scam network in Bamban. President Marcos Jr. expressed concern about these activities
"Disguising as legitimate entities, their operations have ventured into illicit areas furthest from gaming, such as financial scamming, money laundering, prostitution, human trafficking, kidnapping, brutal torture even murder,” Marcos Jr stated
After the raid, Guo faced administrative charges in January 2024 for corruption, mismanagement, and abuse of power. In July, she and her siblings fled the Philippines, triggering an international manhunt She was arrested in Jakarta on September 3, 2024, and deported to the Philippines to face charges
"Guo was arrested along with a Chinese monk and was helped by a former Chinese police officer during her escape from the Philippines" Supratman minister of law of Indonesia voiced
During Senate inquiries, Guo revealed a "crucial personality" in POGO operations and, despite the allegations, claimed to be a victim, expressing readiness to name those "most guilty "

South Korean right-wing president Yoon Suk Yeol declares martial law on the night of December 3 to "eradicate the shameless pro-North anti-state forces" attributed to the opposition Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), spiraling the country into political turmoil
At approximately 10:22 PM, in a surprise televised address, Yoon began his briefing by accusing the opposition-majority parliament of paralyzing the government through attempts of impeaching high-ranking officials and severe government budget cuts
Labelling the DPK as pro-North for inciting rebellion, Yoon imposed martial law to "rebuild and protect Korea from national ruin "
"To this end, I will definitely eradicate the root causes of national ruin and the anti-state forces that have persistently engaged in malicious conduct," he stated
With Yoon's declaration of martial law, General Park An-su, the martial law commander, enumerated the measures under the command By decree, all political activities, including gatherings of local legislatures and the National Assembly, were banned, and circulation of free press was also suspended
Immediately after the decree, lawmakers from all main parties, even from Yoon's own party People Power Party (PPP), strongly opposed Yoon's declaration National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik announced that he would convene an emergency session to revoke the order and urged all lawmakers to gather at the building.
Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump wins the 2024 US presidential elections against Vice-President Kamala Harris after winning both the Electoral College and popular vote, marking his eventual return to the White House.
Trump clinched a decisive win against Democratic candidate and rival Kamala Harris after winning key battleground states Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, gaining the electoral votes necessary to pass the 270 votes threshold to win the presidency and beat Harris.
This win marks the first time since 1988 wherein a Republican candidate has won the popular vote, garnering 49 8% of all votes cast for president. Harris barely came short with 48.3% of all votes
His controversial loss in the 2020 presidential elections against Joe Biden - which led to him encouraging his supporters to storm the Capitol in hopes of overturning the election - and his being convicted on 34 counts of fraud for falsifying business records to hide hush money makes for his remarkable political comeback
And during his 2024 campaign, Trump survived two assassination attempts, with the first in a rally held in Butler, Pennsylvania where a bullet grazed his right ear, and the second in a golfing event in West Palm Beach, Florida where a Secret Service agent opened fire at a gunman hidden within the shrubs of the golf course
Consequetly, martial law forces were mobilized to barricade the National Assembly and block lawmakers from entering the building Heavy military presence clashed against protesters outraged at the president's decree
With the assistance of civilians lawmakers were able to make their way inside and begin the session
By approximately 1:00 AM, with 190 of 300 lawmakers present inside the National Assembly building, all voted unanimously to lift the order Speaker Woon then declared that the martial law is now "invalid" and that they “will protect democracy with the people.” Shortly after, the military withdrew and left the building
Yoon would announce at around 4:30 AM in another televised address that he will lift the martial law order and affirmed that he had withdrawn all troops from the National Assembly building The cabinet approved his decision to lift the decree
The short-lived martial law lasted only for 6 hours
Yoon's announcement marks the first in 45 years since army General Chun Doo-hwan imposed martial law in the country following the assassination of former president Park Chung-hee succeeded by a complete overhaul of the government led by Chun's iron fist
Following Yoon's failed attempt to institute martial law, opposition parties called the motion to impeach the president on the basis that the declaration was unconstitutional
Celebrating his win during the election night, Trump culminated a victory speech to his supporters
"We made history for a reason tonight And the reason is going to be just that we overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible, and it is now clear that we've achieved the most incredible political thing," he said Harris, who lost the elections, delivered her concession speech to her despairing supporters, urging them to "never give up" and "keep fighting "
"Don't ever give up Don't ever stop trying to make the world a better place You have power You have power. And don't you ever listen when anyone tells you something is impossible because it has never been done before," she said
Following the presidential elections, Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the 47th president of Ja
“See you around!”: Honoring our Finance Officer (FO), Ms. Ma. Theresa D. Cuevas
Gian Macalisang, Hannah Mactal, Robyn Margaux Calilung
“I love you all, and see you around.”
Those were the words uttered by Ms Ma Theresa D Cuevas, the Finance Officer (FO) of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School (SFXCS), as she prepares to conclude her time as FO and expand her horizons outside the school
Ms Cuevas has established her own legacy in Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School as a finance officer that the community won't soon forget Her humble beginnings of being an accounting staff into a high-ranking FO has defined her passion to overcome barriers and further embark the school into greater heights
She first took numerous jobs before discovering her place in RCBN-ES After graduating at Urdaneta City University in Pangasinan with Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, she sought her first job as part of accounting staff in a Hanabishi manufacturing branch in Meycauayan, Bulacan She then switched jobs and became an LRT line coordinator for stalls and kiosks She has also worked as a mall accountant for Novaliches Plaza Mall as well as an accountant for a publishing house.
Her days of working as an accountant has taught her one thing: commuting is too much of a hassle. Luckily, an opportunity would present itself that would both solve her predicament and land herself in the RCBN-ES community. She would then work initially as a bookkeeper for Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and then as dual finance officer for both OLLCS and Saint Francis de Sales Academy until making her way in SFXCS, still carrying her past profession.
Her time as a finance officer in SFXCS was vastly different from the past schools, as no one could predict the direction the school was heading. As 2020 dawned, so did the worry for a new virus that would forever change the school The COVID-19 virus spread like wildfire, causing a global pandemic that forced everyone into lockdown And unfortunately, she could not watch the students march onstage and receive their diplomas
Ms. Cuevas' five-year stay in SFXCS as its finance officer was met with warm welcomes from the community, and she greatly appreciates their warmth and respectfulness. For only a short span of time, she has formed very close relationships with her learners. She also admired how learners have exhibited their commitment to perform their best and flourished their creativity in various activities the school has held Not only did she serve as the FO of the school, but also explored teaching accountancy Although it was initially difficult for her, but after a bit of refreshing she became comfortable with it She enjoyed this experience because it was "outside of what she usually does"
The school had to cope up its slow decline during the pandemic. Facing low enrollment rates and financial struggles of both the learners and the school, Ms. Cuevas had to work in-site to keep the school running. It was a hard struggle of maintaining her health, risking getting COVID-19, and managing school operations
Her strict and tight budgeting style and her launching of fundraising activities allowed SFXCS to breathe and sustain itself throughout the pandemic; and fortunately, it was once again back on its feet She then continued to work until 2024, when she resigned late August to pursue endeavors outside the country
As she closes her chapter in SFXCS, she reflects on her time in the school In an interview, she emphasized that students should keep pursuing their academic endeavors, for it is what teachers like her aspire to see.
"Study hard. It is the dream of every teacher to see their students succeed," she stated.
Moreover, when asked to "part some wisdom", Ms. Cuevas expressed that every student is different, and that each excels in its own right and will further flourish when given an opportunity.
"Every student has their own upbringing, so give them equal opportunities," she also stated
Ms Cuevas takes great pride in improving the school into what it is now Passionate in her work, she reiterated her massive impact in the school, citing her many contributions since her arrival in the school
"I'm proud I'm proud because when I arrived at SFXCS, there was no internet I'm proud SFXCS didn't have CCTV when I arrived I'm proud SFXCS had an incomplete Science laboratory when I arrived I'm proud that I improved all of the equipment in the Computer laboratory when I arrived I'm proud that all of the classrooms have televisions I'm proud that this school has its own playground I'm proud that the covered court looks beautiful now That was all during my time, even during the pandemic " she exclaimed
Ms. Cuevas’ time in SFXCS not only marked her determination and passion to improve the school into glory, but also signified a time of progress that is deeply felt by the community. While her time as this school’s FO ends, her legacy will continue, waiting for anyone to take her mantle.
As the countdown to Christmas begins, Advent Season reminds us that Christmas is not just a single day of celebration it is a time to pause, reflect, and prepare for the anticipation of Christ's arrival With each flame, we spark hope, peace, joy, and love, guiding us on a sacred journey toward the miracle of His birth
Advent begins Sunday closest to November 30th and ends on Christmas Eve, December 24th During this season, each week we light an Advent candle to symbolize the growing light of Christ's presence in our lives This tradition symbolizes the hope, peace, joy, and love that intensify as we draw nearer to His birth
Each Sunday, as the days grow shorter and the air grows cooler, families and communities gather together to light the Advent candle. There is a profound sense of peace in this simple yet meaningful act a moment to pause in the midst of the holiday rush, allowing us to center their hearts on the true meaning of the season
The glow of the candle offers a moment of reflection, reminding everyone of the spiritual journey Advent calls us to undertake
Each candle lit during Advent holds deep meaning The first, representing hope, it reminds families and communities that Christ is the light that shines into the darkness The second candle represents peace, encouraging families to find calm and stillness as they reflect on their lives and relationships The third candle symbolizes joy, a joy born with anticipation, knowing that Christmas is not just a celebration of the season but a reminder of Christ's love and sacrifice for the world Finally, the fourth candle represents love, a reminder that God’s love is at the heart of Christmas
Lighting the Advent candles is not only an intimate family ritual; it is also a meaningful practice within communities Churches often set up Advent wreaths, where each week, members of the congregation light the candles together, building a sense of shared anticipation and joy Advent is an invitation to step away from the hurried pace of the season It calls us to slow down, reflect inwardly, and embrace the spiritual journey leading to Christmas.
The Advent candles are more than symbolic lights; they illuminate the path to a deeper understanding of the season’s spiritual roots Each flickering flame is a gentle invitation for each of us to pause, reflect, and prepare for the arrival of the One who is the light of the world

On the 12th of April 2024, a white Cadillac Escalade with a protocol plate number 7 was caught illegally entering the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) Busway, and it almost hit a traffic enforcer. The Land Transportation Office identified the driver of the SUV as Angelito Edpan, a driver registered under the Orient Pacific Corporation (OPC).
This protocol plate number "7" is only exclusive to government officials, specifically senators, however, it was found under the possession of a company, as the investigation went further about the incident that revealed that two real estate firms, both linked to the vehicle, were connected to Senator Sherwin Gatchalian's father, William Gatchalian
We must admit that it's not just about one senator linked to illegal activity, but rather a testament of a larger systematic weakness Individuals that hold massive influential power, such as politicians, are often exempt from illegal doings This shows the larger problem that the Philippines is currently facing
The SUV that illegally entered the busway is one of the incidents that a government vehicle has violated the rules. The guidelines about protocol plates, as written in Executive Order No. 56, clearly were not being enforced properly. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) may have issued a public statement regarding this matter, but we, Filipinos need to look on how the current rules are actually implemented.
It is unfair for hundreds of millions of commuters being caught in heavy traffic in EDSA to arrive in their destinations While a vehicle owned by a politician is speeding through a busway and violated the rules This issue isn't just about the problem that it causes, but it also concerns the trust that every citizen has in the system
The investigations done by the LTO is a start, yet it overlooks the larger issue, the belief that some people think that they are above or greater than the law
The driver's quick departure after giving his license along with the focused statement "unauthorized" use of the plate rather than the actual violation proves it Without consequences, this event will happen again and turn into a cycle of impartiality brought by status and power
Sara Duterte is now on four impeachment complaints due to her
Take our Vice President Sara Duterte for instance; Vice President failure to explain confidential and intelligence fund spending during her term as Education Chief, as well as her threat to the lives of the President Ferdinand Marcos Jr , First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos and Speaker Martin Romualdez Furthermore, her sudden outburst and refusal to cooperate have only put her in a tough situation
The downfall of BBM-Sara's "UniTeam" is a result of their incompetence and failure to uphold their duties It truly shows that our government is progressing backwards Both have dug their own grave, and it is not hard to see this fractured duo only making things worse until their term expires. May the issues we
observed pave the way to a better transparent, accountable, and trustable government, as our country's future lies in our hands.
One of the most heated topics in this generation is gender and sexuality, therefore people need to be open-minded about it. Those who are really committed organize awareness campaigns and defend their rights in spite of the public's constant criticism and slander As of right now, 38 countries have allowed same-sex marriage; however, the Philippines is not one of them In spite of this, many members of theLGBTQ community defy the law in order to be legally wed and become a couple
The days of being ashamed about one's sexuality should be long gone Accepting members of the
LGBTQ community and recognizing that there are more than two genders is one way to advance human rights Being gay, bisexual, or lesbian does not undermine your worth as a person; rather, it affirms your ability to embrace your sexuality with pride and self-assurance Ultimately, we have the freedom to love anyone we choose
Consider Taiwan, where same-sex marriage has been permitted since 2019, hailing them the title of being the first to legalize it in Asia According to their implemented law, The Enforcement Act of the Judicial Yuan Interpretation No 748, same-sex couples can marry, adopt, and receive tax benefits just like heterosexual couples Furthermore, gender and sexuality discrimination in schools was outlawed long before this bill was even drafted, giving children the opportunity to learn more about tolerance and the existence of different sexual orientations.
Given the public's outcry in favor of the LGBTQ+ community, the government should consider legalizing this law. Granting rights to women is a significant step in the right path, but why don't they also grant rights to those whose gender is non-heterosexual?

the Duterte administration are clinging to the International Criminal Court (ICC) as their last hope for justice. Neri Colmenares, a human rights lawyer, said that domestic mechanisms have repeatedly failed failed, making international intervention essential. This is not just about individual cases but about rebuilding trust in the rule of law.
During the recent House panel hearing on EJKs, illegal drugs, and human rights violations, Colmenares highlighted the systematic challenges victims' familiesface Evidenceofcrimes hasbeenconsistentlyerasedor obscured, creatingbarmersfor prosecution. Without proper investigations, thejusticesystem remainsparalyzed Thisportrays thealarminglevelofimpunity that has plagued the justice system, where perpetrators seem to operate without fear ofaccountability
Addingtothis,ColmenaresalsopointedoutthattheNationalUnionofPeople'sLawyers (NUPL),workingwiththeICC,discoveredapatternofdeliberateconcealment.Many victimsfamiliesweretooafraidtoreportcases,knowingthesystemwasagainst them.ThishighlightstheurgentneedforinternationalmechanismsliketheICC.
A significant challenge is the narrative of self-defense used by many
This justification can easily be abused to mask extrajudicial perpetrators, especially policemen As Colmenares noted, "EJK perpetrators mostly policemen, claimed self-defense in killing the victims." While self-defense is a valid legal argument, its widespread use across thousands of cases raised serious doubts. killings, especially when evidence is deliberately erased.
Critics argue that the ICC probe undermines national sovereignty, insisting that the Philippines can handle its own cases While this argument has merit, it fails under scrutiny Sovereignty comes with the responsibility to uphold human rights, and when domestic systems fail, international intervention is necessary.
The solution lies in two approaches. While the ICC should proceed with its probe, the Philippine government must reform its judicial and law enforcement systems. This includes strengthening investigations, protecting witnesses, and ensuring victims families can safely report cases.
Pastor Apollo Carreon Quiboloy was faced with many cases upon his alleged participation in labor trafficking schemes that included many young girls who were forced to participate in many "sexual" activities with the pastor. Even with statements from the victims, he is still not convicted and is currently participating in the ongoing senate elections, which he clearly isn't deserving of
The ICC's involvement is not a threat to sovereignty but a lifeline for justice when the system fails its people. Families of EJK victims deserve justice and closure. The government must act to rebuild trust in justice and ensure such atrocities never happen again.
In light of his recent situation, the information from his case alone proves that he is not worthy to be kept in the outside world. He should be kept in jail, whether he is sick or not. The Philippines has been experiencing a crisis in education that has impacted many children's learning opportunities. The No Child Left Behind program was implemented to address this problem by giving all students equal access to education and enabling them to showcase their full potential.
Given that the Philippines placed last in reading and second-to-last in math and science out of 79 countries in the 2018 Programme for International Students Assessment, immediate adjustments are required to solve the long-term problem of the country's poor academic performance Given that it has been a persistent problem and that it impacts children's development and understanding, the government ought to move quickly to address it
The goal of the 2001 No Child Left Behind program was to guarantee that every child receives a top-notch education and to boost financing for underprivileged and early childhood learners This is a terrific solution to the problem, giving students access to high-quality education to improve their knowledge, including in areas where they are weak
Through a focus on hearing and speaking sounds, the way letters form words, reading speed and comprehension, and the meaning of specific words, NCLB assists schools in providing reading programs that have been proven to be effective By giving priority to techniques that have been shown to be effective, the policy guarantees that schools can address one of the most important indicators of long-term academic performance To maximize its success, its implementation should be adaptable enough to take into account local settings and a variety of student demands
Teachers frequently "teach to the test," putting the arts, physical education, and other crucial topics last and concentrating primarily on the tested subjects (reading and math). However, this gives students the opportunity to improve their understanding and strengthen their weak areas in reading, grammar, and problem-solving.
Filipino learners ranked at or near the bottom in every category evaluated, indicating serious flaws in the nation's educational system Ensuring quality, equity, and access to education for all students, regardless of their background, is a common objective of No Child Left Behind
Technology is the new norm! Catching up to the everevolving world, Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School seeks to prepare its learners as it ventures into one of their most aspiring developments for this school year 2024-2025: the introduction of robotics in the curriculum
This newly proposed addition to the curriculum is centered around robotics, a field that primarily concerns how robots are engineered, programmed, and produced For SFXCS, it will be implemented both as an independent subject and an integration to the subjects TLE and Computer.
Implementing robotics into the curriculum was made possible thanks to TechFactors Inc , one of the leading publishers centered around e-learning and use of ICT for 21st century learning TechFactors Inc includes courses for various subjects, namely ScienceTek, MathTek, and primarily RoboTek
To kick start the program, SFXCS, along with other Roman Catholic Bishop of Novaliches-Education System (RCBN-ES) schools, attended an interschool seminar arranged by TechFactors Inc. to provide training for teachers that will supervise the new system under TechFactors Inc 's RoboTek course
"Knowledge is power," as the saying goes And with disasters such as earthquakes, wildfires, floods, and storm surges that powers over our lives, not knowing the unexpected spells danger. Fostering disaster awareness and safety, Saint Francis Xavier Catholic combined education with real world occurrence by undergoing a traverse outdoor activity the PIVOT 2024.
The PIVOT 2024 involved interactive activities that explore different calamities as it fosters safety, awareness, and preparedness With the help of the program, students participated in activities such as fire drill, earthquake drill, CPR, and screening of the film entitled, "The Fault Line "
Among the teachers representing SFXCS were Ms. Julie Ann Castillo, Mr Edmar Ermino, and Ms Rhomena Daggit Along with other teachers from other schools, members underwent a brief discussion of the RoboTek course and participated in various hands-on activities such as mechanical assembly and programming, activities which will be replicated in classroom settings The seminar took on a course of two days
Ms Castillo summarizes what kind of robots the students will be using, as demonstrated in their seminar.
"There are different kinds of robots, but here in our school, for elementary we're going to use the mBot In higher levels, you're going to use Arduino."
"There are lots of exercises kasi, if you're going to use Arduino, as well as mBot There are lots of activities that you can apply," she added.
Ms. Daggit explains how the new integration of robotics will benefit students who wish to pursue ICT or similar courses and encourage other students to learn more about technology.
"Maganda 'to para sa mga gustong [mag-take] ng computer engineering or programming Sa palagay ko ma-eexcite ang mga bata na interested dito," she stated
She also mentions that Scratch, a block-based programming language primarily focused on young ages, can be utilized into robotics
"Pwede na siyang i-connect sa- sa Grade 6 kasi, meron tayong Scratch programming na inintroduce sa Grade 6. Ngayon, pwede na siyang i-connect sa robots," she added
Mr Ermino describes how the new system will be implemented He briefly explained the flow of teaching robotics to students.
"Ang mangyayari, may team kasi limited ang ki robots, so possible 5 members sa isang team lang diyan, iintroduce muna 'yung mga information abo then afterwards saka lang magkakaroon sila ng programs na iincorporate nila sa robots," he stated
Although grasping robotics may seem like a ste curve for students, the teachers assure that the s capable of digesting the study with enough assi prior background
"You need to introduce first what robotics is Iintroduce mo sa kanila ano ang mga parts, so th step up, pagdating halimbawa, nagstart tayo n pagdating ng Grade 3, 'oh, ganito na pala,' pagdatin 4, 'oh, ito na pala,'" Ms. Castillo stated.
Ms Castillo believes that the arrival of robot curriculum will prove successful for its first year ru its success will be determined whether or not the st collaborate with each other

Through this program, the school emphasizes the importance of being ready and filling up the students with knowledge and skills that they need to know on how to respond to a disaster
The program not only highlighted the value of safety but it also encourages us to practice critical thinking and practical learning to prepare students for real-life challenges
Last October 2024, Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School celebrated Math and Science Month to help enhance every student's ability to analyze and solve difficult problems. The event showcased the ability of every Xaverian Student's critical and fast-thinking skills.
During Math and Science Month, the learners actively participated and committed themselves to every activity that the school prepared for the students It is an essential event because it is to remember how these subjects are fundamental for having a deep understanding of the origin of life, the universe Without these branches of study the next generations will lack every knowledge that they need to learn for our better future
Science is a systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation, conducting experiments, and expanding our knowledge It helps us to gain a deeper understanding of the vast mysteries the world and beyond have to offer It allows us to explore the alien-like creatures of the deep sea, with bizarre forms, and behaviors that challenge our understanding of life
Through scientific knowledge, we uncover the secrets of the ecosystems that thrive in extreme environments, shedding light on the adaptability and diversity of life on Earth
In a vast open space, exploring unknown planets that are different from Earth and trying to discover new creatures that we do not know yet
Order, system, patterns, and calculations are part of Mathematics Solving problems in the world and numbers influences our everyday lives from buying groceries, calculating ingredients that are used for baking or cooking, and time management for our daily life, to solving hard problems about circles and triangles, using x, y, and z instead of numbers, and lastly counting the numbers That is what Math brings to the table of subjects
Problem-solving is the key to our societal issue. Exercises for precise calculations help us to be quick-witted just like a true genius
Math and Science give us knowledge that we need to know Along with the other subjects Showing us what the universe gives us and giving us the building blocks for a better future as well as the achievements and discoveries of the past.
Seated on our couch, ready to Netflix and chill, we stumbled upon the top series trending in the Philippines The Bagyo Series This show doesn't fuel you up with adrenaline but causes a different kind of impact: pure disturbance. Each "episode" is represented by a typhoon, leaving chaos and destruction behind.
Super Typhoon Yagi is locally known as Super Typhoon Enteng The typhoon swept the whole nation by surprising us with a gift of strength of Signal No 2 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, with the winds reaching 61-100 kph. Such strength of this typhoon makes small things fly and cause minor to moderate damage in homes. In such conditions, some small trees and other frail structured plants will be blown away
The coming of Typhoon Leon caught us off-guard as it escalated overnight In comparison to the other typhoons, Leon made up for its late arrival with a horrifying style with its dramatic shift from a tropical storm to a category 3 typhoon.
Classified as a Signal No 3 typhoon, Leon brought winds ranging between 121 - 170 kph Combined with the heavy, unrelenting rainfall, the high gusts of wind Sustained rainfall coupled with flash floods left drainage systems more than just overwhelmed Some of the streets, houses, and businesses were left underwater.
Forcibly evacuating people from their homes, storm surges left coastal towns in a state of devastation Though the rural areas were comparatively unharmed in comparison to the super typhoons, Leon still left the local communities in chaos
Typhoon Kristine, which reached Signal No. 2, had strong winds and struggled downpours, causing massive flooding and landslides. This extreme weather caused excessive rainfall, engulfed whole villages, and led to dislocation Villages in mountainous regions were unable to access the road due to landslides blocking them The soil of the farmlands left the community in despair
Regardless of the disasters, the courage of the people of the community is commendable and inspiring, for they got together to help each other out to clear debris as well as reconstruct their lives
Super Typhoon Pepito The heavy and windswept rain of Super Typhoon Pepito, known internationally as Super Typhoon Man-Yi, caused mass destruction. With a whopping signal no. 5 on the scale causing fast gale and heavy rain.
While the whole country is in ruins, students are enjoying their early break, and little did they know they messed up Little by little, students started to worry as the rain fell heavily and the wind started to blow harder Some experienced blackouts, even in rare instances, their roof started to fly
Each episode of the series alerted and opened the eyes of many to the dangers of the typhoon The impact of the storm reminded everyone to stay safe and calm As the series continues to linger, a question engulfs the minds of everyone: will this lead to an end? Or will we remain stuck in this spiral of uncertainty?
The study of the Vaccinium fallax has also sparked interest in the potential for other plant species to thrive in the Arctic tundra As the climate continues to change, scientists are eager to learn more about the plants that call this harsh environment home
In the end, the Vaccinium fallax is a testament to the incredible diversity and resilience of life on Earth This tiny, unassuming plant has adapted to survive in one of the most inhospitable environments on the planet, and its secrets are still waiting to be uncovered
As scientists continue to study the Vaccinium fallax, they are reminded of the importance of preserving and protecting our planet's unique ecosystems. The Arctic tundra, with its harsh climate and limited vegetation, may seem like an unlikely place to find life. But the Vaccinium fallax proves that even in the most unexpected places, there is always the potential for discovery and wonder
Leoj Buceron
Deep within the Arctic tundra, a small, unassuming plant has long fascinated scientists and botanists Meet the Vaccinium fallax, a dwarf blueberry species that thrives in the harsh, icy landscape of the Far North.
This diminutive shrub, which grows to a mere 10-20 cm in height, has adapted to survive in one of the most inhospitable environments on Earth The Vaccinium fallax can be found in the Arctic tundra of northern Europe, Asia, and North America, where it grows in areas with poor soil quality and limited sunlight
So, how does this tiny plant manage to thrive in such a challenging environment? The answer lies in its unique adaptations The Vaccinium fallax has developed a specialized root system that allows it to absorb nutrients from the poor soil. It also produces small, white flowers that are rich in nectar, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies
Despite its small size, the Vaccinium fallax plays a vital role in the Arctic ecosystem. It provides food for herbivores such as reindeer and arctic hares, and its roots help to stabilize the soil and prevent erosion
Scientists are still learning about the Vaccinium fallax and its unique adaptations. They use specialized equipment, such as cameras and sensors, to study this elusive plant in its natural habitat
Antarctica, the frozen continent, is not exactly the first place that comes to mind when thinking of lush greenery. But, despite the harsh climate, scientists have discovered a surprising array of plants that call Antarctica home.
These hardy plants have adapted to survive in one of the most inhospitable environments on Earth They can be found in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, a region of Antarctica's Victoria Land This area is considered a "cold desert" due to its low humidity and scarce rainfall
So, how do these plants manage to thrive in such a challenging environment? The answer lies in their unique adaptations For example, some plants have developed specialized roots that allow them to absorb moisture from the air Others produce waxy coatings that prevent water loss.
One of the most fascinating plants found in Antarctica is the Antarctic hair grass This hardy grass can survive temperatures as low as -40°C and can even grow in areas with limited sunlight. Another interesting plant is the Antarctic pearlwort, a small, flowering plant that can thrive in areas with poor soil quality
Despite the challenges, these plants play a vital role in the Antarctic ecosystem They provide food for herbivores, stabilize the soil, and prevent erosion In short, they are the unsung heroes of the Antarctic landscape.
Scientists are still learning about the different types of plants that exist in Antarctica.
They use specialized equipment, such as cameras and sensors, to study these plants in their natural habitat.
The discovery of these plants has also sparked interest in the potential for Antarctica to support more complex ecosystems Could it be that, one day, we'll find even more surprising forms of life on this frozen continent?
As we continue to explore and learn about Antarctica's hidden world of plants, we are reminded of the incredible diversity and resilience of life on Earth
In the end, the discovery of these green gems in the ice is a testament to the power of nature to adapt and thrive, even in the most unexpected places.
