President’s Message -Ernesto R. Perez, D.M.D.

To quote Buddha: “Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.” As simple (and somewhat humorous) as that quote may be, I find it very applicable to all of us today.

This year is quickly coming to an end, and most offices are busy finishing treatment plans for patients before their insurance benefits end. Our families may also be in a rush getting gifts for those we love and planning get-togethers with close friends. It is a laundry list of things to get done before January 1 and, in my case, throwing a wedding as well.

But, I would like to take an opportunity to reflect and give thanks. I want to thank all the members that make our association so unique. I thank all of you, and very significantly, those in leadership positions who take time out of their demanding schedules to contribute to the profession. I also wish to say “thank you” to our executive director, executive assistant, and membership coordinator, for without these three highly talented individuals, the SFDDA would not be the powerhouse district that it is.

I personally would like to thank God for all the people who have blessed my life. Giving thanks is a rewarding practice because recognizing others is to realize how gracious God is, and how blessed our lives are. With the pandemic slowly coming to an eventual end, life and the importance of health cannot be more underappreciated or overstated.

Let us all take time to acknowledge those who have passed, and be gracious for our own health and wellbeing. So, as we bid adieu to this year and welcome the new one, please remember to be gracious and give thanks. May God continue to bless this association, its members, and their families for years to come.
