IFC Fall 2023 Recruitment Dates

Potential New Member (PNM) Requirements
● Before and during recruitment, a potential new member (PNM) is defined as any full-time undergraduate student who is not a member of a fraternity.
● Regularly enrolled, full-time (12 hours or more) student at SFA Based on cumulative college GPA
● Register for IFC recruitment
o All men MUST be registered and cleared by the Fraternity and Sorority Life advisor prior to signing a bid card.
● Pay a $55 nonrefundable registration fee
o This fee is paid at the time of registration. You will not be allowed to continue with IFC Informal Recruitment until the recruitment fee is paid.
● All PMNs Must attend an IFC convocation
o Monday, Sept 4th, 5 pm - IFC Convocation @BPSC Twilight Ballroom
o Thursday, Sept 7th, 6 pm - IFC Convocation @SFA Rec Center
o Monday, Sept 11th 2 pm - IFC Convocation @BPSC Twilight Ballroom
● In order to rush a member chapter, a PNM must sign an IFC BID card, this will take place on IFC BID Day
o Member chapters may give out personalized bid cards, which have no value to IFC, and signing one does not mean you are committed to rushing that chapter.
● Must wear recruitment wristband throughout the whole process.
● Absolutely NO Alcohol during recruitment activities
o This includes any time a PNM is with an IFC member, regardless of time or location
o PNMs caught drinking during a recruitment-related activity will be immediately removed from recruitment and ineligible to join a fraternity for a calendar year.
I. No IFC member chapter will be allowed to hold an event with alcohol present during the formal recruitment period
IFC Recruitment Rules
I. General Information
a Formal Recruitment will take place starting on the date of the first IFC Convocation until Bid Day (Formerly Steps) on September 16, 2023, when each member chapter must officially close formal recruitment.
b IFC Executive Officers do not have to disaffiliate during formal recruitment but may not participate in their member chapters’ recruitment process or individual chapter events.
c. IFC Executive Officers will be held to recruitment rules including but not limited to the use of alcohol and other illegal substances, minor and major recruitment infractions, and any other policies as listed in the IFC Constitution and Bylaws.
d. Alcohol or any illegal substances are strictly prohibited at any type of recruitment event or activity hosted by an individual, chapter or council
i. Alcohol may not be displayed at chapter houses or any approved Informal Recruitment event locations
ii. Chapter members and/or new members may not attend any recruitment events if they have consumed any alcohol and/or any other illegal substance even if they are of legal age
iii. Any member or new member who is known to have consumed alcohol or any other illegal substance during the recruitment process shall be removed from the remainder of the recruitment process and:
1 If a chapter has directly or indirectly provided alcohol or any other illegal substance to the new member in question
a. The individual chapter involved will be responsible for levying sanctions against its members and submitting, in written form, a detail of the sanctions to the IFC Exec. Board within seven (7) business days of the infraction
b. If a chapter or individual is found using alcohol, the judicial process will be used to determine the consequences
e. Chapters may not host recruitment events before the first convocation of the semester
i. Chapter events are identified as off-campus activities with 25% or more members of a chapter (this includes actives and alumni)
ii Chapter members hanging out on campus in the capacity of an SFA student (i.e. studying in the library, eating in the cafeteria, working out at rec, etc) shall not be deemed a chapter event regardless of how many members are in attendance
iii. Potential New Members are not allowed to enter any official fraternity house chapter until the first convocation of the semester
II Short Semesters:
a. Chapters shall not invite students attending summer/winter classes at SFA to off-campus chapter events during the respective break
b. Active members are permitted to meet with potential new members during the breaks individually.
c Alcohol is prohibited during any recruitment activities
III. General Event Rules
a IFC Formal Recruitment Events
i. Chapters are required to stay through the duration of IFC Formal Recruitment events unless otherwise specified or permission is granted by IFC Executive Board and/or Advisor
ii. Females including but not limited to affiliate groups will be prohibited at member chapter recruitment events

2. Female affiliates will be allowed to attend the IFC Beach bash
iii. Chapters are required to provide a minimum of 2 members to stay and clean up for the following events.

V Individual Chapter Events
a. Chapters must submit individual recruitment events to IFC Recruitment Chair for approval by August 15, 2023.
b Chapters may not host competing events with IFC Recruitment Events
c. Individual chapter recruitment events may not begin before the first IFC Convocation
d. Individual chapter events during recruitment may not last past 11 p.m.
e. IFC and Individual chapter events must remain alcohol-free and abide by all risk management policies or the IFC Executive Board may levy sanctions (including but not limited to fines, social probation, or conduct-related sanctions) by the dean of students
The IFC Executive Board will be permitted to attend any member chapter recruitment events to confirm that all rules are followed
VI Bid
a. Verbal and member chapter bids are not binding for either new members or the chapter.
i Chapters may not give bids out before the day of the first IFC Convocation
b Official bids may be extended by chapters through ICS
c. Official bids are finalized when a Bid Card is signed by an IFC representative:
i This includes the signatures of new members and the Executive Board.
1 Once a chapter has extended a bid to a new member, the offer may not be retracted until after the formal recruitment period has ended.
VII Informal Recruitment Guidelines:
a. Informal recruitment will begin on the Monday 2 weeks following BID Day
b. Potential New members are still required to register through ICS to be considered eligible for membership into any IFC fraternity
c. Potential New members must still meet the minimum qualifications to join a Greek organization
Violations
● Any chapter member, IFC Executive Officer/advisor or potential new member may report a Recruitment Violation
● All Recruitment Violations must be submitted in writing to the IFC Chief Justice
o In the event the Recruitment Violation is against the IFC Chief Justice’s chapter or IFC Director of Recruitment’s chapter, violation(s) may be turned in to the IFC President
● Recruitment Violations will be divided into two (2) categories:
o The IFC member chapter will incur a $1000 fine per infraction
▪ Having alcoholor illegalsubstances ata recruitment-related activity
▪ Having females atmember chapter events
▪ Extending a bidto a studentwho has notregisteredon ICS
o The IFC member chapter will incur a $500 fine per infraction
▪ Extending bids to students before the designatedtime
▪ Extending bids to students failing to meetthe 2.0GPA requirement
▪ Extending a bidto a studentwho has notattendedIFCNew Member Convocation
▪ Verbalor Physicalaltercation atany recruitmentevent
▪ Arriving late or leaving early ofany IFCFormalRecruitmentEvent withoutprior approval.
▪ Photos ofalcoholor other inappropriate contenton any recruitment-relatedsocialmedia(studentcode ofconduct)
▪ Scheduling Individualchapter events during IFCFormal RecruitmentEvents
▪ Failure toparticipate in any IFCFormalRecruitmentEventwithout prior approval.
▪ Seditious, libelor any advertisementthatnegativelypursues the welfare ofPanhellenic Councilrecruitmentwillbeprohibited throughouttheyear
▪ Ifa PotentialNew Member is atthe location ofa chapter event before or after specifiedeventhours
▪ Failure toprovide four(4)members to clean up after IFCFormal RecruitmentEvents
▪ Failure toprovide requiredsupplies(as outlinedin GeneralEvent Rules)to IFCFormalRecruitmentEvents.
▪ Having PNMs in chapter house or chapter-relatedfacilityprior to The startofformalrecruitment
▪ Failure to turn IFCBidLists in on time(September 15thby 10p m)
● Appeals can be sent to the SFA IFC Email, and the proper judicial process will be taken in order to resolve the appeal.
