What is CRS as per BIS? CRS i.e. Compulsory Registration Scheme is a scheme and policy of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). This scheme was introduced in 2012 by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and BIS.
The scheme originally covered 15 products in 2012 but at present it covers more than 50 products.
According to this scheme all the people who are manufacturing, storing, selling, importing or distributing the goods listed under this scheme are required to apply for the BIS certification. Manufactures need to get their product tested from BIS recognised labs for applying for the certification. Once BIS registers the manufacturers, he is allowed to use the standard mark for their products in conformation with the Indian Standards.
Eligibility for Application/ Basis of Registration  Any third party manufactures, either located in India or Foreign location.  Separate registration number is provided for separate products.  Each brand gets separate registration, even if it is manufactured at the same location.
