All teams gathered early on a chilly and particularly foggy morning before boarding the buses and heading to two different venues. The Year 12’s played at Warwick Stadium and Year 11’s at Loftus Rec Centre. This tournament consisted of two Year 12 teams (male & female) and two Year 11 teams (male & female).

YEAR 11 GIRLS The Year 11 girls had a great day but were unfortunately on the back foot in the very first game against Southern River as they were one player short and had only five on the court. This didn’t stop them playing very competitively and demonstrating exceptional resilience as they continued fighting hard until the last point. Unfortunately, they didn’t come away with a win. The next match was against Fremantle College and the girls were at full strength with a full team! They had a tough 3 set match but walked off the court with their first win for the tournament! The girls had two more playoff matches to finish the day. Unfortunately, they didn’t have a lot of luck against a very strong Harrisdale team. However, the final match against John XXIII was a different story. The first set was a close loss but in the next 2 sets the girls displayed fantastic skills and teamwork and finished off with a convincing win. The girls finished a very respectable 5th overall out of 11 teams.

YEAR 11 BOYS The boys were placed in a very competitive pool that featured some very strong teams. The first match against Prendiville should have been chalked up as a solid victory but nerves and simple skill errors cost the team their first win. The second match of the tournament was against the formidable Southern River outfit. The boys fought hard all match and displayed moments of brilliance, but it wasn’t enough to walk away victorious. The third match was against Fremantle College Red. The boys were all determined to get their first win and from the opening point they did not put a foot wrong. Fantastic serves, amazing passes and solid teamwork rewarded the team with a victory! The final match for the day was a playoff for 3rd position in the pool against the Fremantle College Blue team. By this point the boys were feeling the effects of a full day of volleyball. They fought hard over 3 sets and finished the game with a fantastic win. Special mention to Jerry Cocjin, who displayed great leadership skills and worked very hard all day. The boys finished 5th overall out of 8 teams.
