Welcome!
Every year, for the past 43 years, the Set Apart committee has prayerfully considered a theme and verse for the year. This year was no different. Our “theme” meeting was as organic as any other conversation among women; there was laughter, banter, sifting, and prayer...and then the beauty of Psalm 100 emerged.
In its purity and simplicity, Psalm 100 gives us instruction on how to live, celebrate, worship, and remember. It connects all of the previous years' themes that we have shared together into the simplest of truths—we are His.
We pray that Set Apart 2024 brings you deeply into new understanding of His goodness and lovingkindness, inspiring you to continue leaning into all that He has for you. Though the Set Apart Conference is coming to an end, we joyfully celebrate His continued faithfulness in you and through you to all generations.
It has been our great honor and privilege to have served you over the years.
Lovingly in Christ, Your Set Apart Committee

Lisa Harper
Rarely are the terms, “hilarious storyteller” and “theological scholar” used in the same sentence, much less used to describe the same person, but then again, Lisa Harper is anything but stereotypical!
Lisa’s vocational resume is comprised of 30+ years of church and para-church ministry leadership. Her work includes 6 years as the director of Focus on the Family’s national women’s ministry and one decade of touring with “Women of Faith.” Her academic resume includes a Masters of Theological Studies from Covenant Seminary, and she recently completed her doctoral studies at Denver Seminary.
If you can’t find her teaching, studying, hiking, or riding her motorcycle, she’s probably in a coffee shop sipping a mocha and typing away on her computer because she’s also had 15 books published - including the recent best-selling devotional, Life, and has written and filmed 7 well-received Bible study video curriculums, including Job: A Story of Unlikely Joy and How Much More: Discovering God’s Extravagant Love in Unexpected Places. However, when asked about her credentials, she describes her greatest accomplishment to date as getting to become Missy’s mom through the miracle of adoption. Because in 2014, she finally got to bring her daughter home from Haiti and she’s been smiling even wider ever since!

What if I Don't Have What it Takes?
Compared to life’s challenges, we can feel so small. Standing in the darkness of its long shadow; incapable. Unsure how to fix it; lacking resources. One Bible hero not only gets us when we ask, “What if I don’t have what it takes?” but he also shows us one very important truth to remember to help spring us forward in what Christ has for us. In this session, we’ll find the courage, obedience, and help we so desperately need in the face of every insecurity to ultimately overcome.
Heidi Lee Anderson is a speaker, stay-at-home mom, and author of P.S. It’s Gonna Be Good. While crafting Instagram devotionals for 125,000 followers @heidileeanderson and writing kid’s devotionals @thismotherhen, she’s a master at cleaning up Cheerios spills and building LEGO towers while simultaneously chugging coffee like a Gilmore. Heidi has spent her career doing ministry—including teaching hundreds in kids’ ministry, writing daily devotionals, Bible reading plans, and small group curriculum for adults as a content developer. After being diagnosed with cancer, Heidi’s fuel is now to make sure that Christ-followers realize, know, and claim the sure promises God offers—in the mundane, amid the heartache, and on top of the highest mountains.

Set Apart History
What once began as a dream quickly turned into a reality when, in the early 1980s, four women came up with an innovative idea: reach out to Christian women and at the same time create a scholarship fund for University of Northwestern — St. Paul students. That idea blossomed into A Day Set Apart for Women, a one-day event organized by a group known as the Northwestern Women’s Fellowship.
As attendance flourished, the conference expanded, and in 1987 was offered in the two-day format we know today. Over the years, well-known speakers such as Annie Chapman, Lysa Terkeurst, Ann Voskamp, Luci Swindoll, Ruth Graham, Candace Cameron Buré, Gigi Tchividjian, Kelly Minter, Priscilla Shirer, Liz Curtis Higgs, Karen Kingsbury, Jennie Allen, Nicole C. Mullen and Susie Larson have graced the Knight Performance Hall stage. In addition, hundreds of speakers have presented in conference workshops.
The scholarship goal of the conference founders has been realized in a mighty way. In the past 42 years, over 400 Northwestern students have been encouraged in their pursuit of Christian education by receiving scholarship funds. The conference endowment scholarship fund, established in 1998, ensures that the original vision will continue to grow for years to come.
In 2007, the conference name A Day Set Apart for Women was changed to Set Apart: A Faith-filled Conference for Women. The Set Apart Committee continues to provide a conference that is firmly based on the promises of God while bringing glory to His name.

We thank God for the women who walked in faith to turn a great idea into a reality: Pauline Hutchens Wilson, Eleanor Anderson, Marion Bildsoe, and Bonita Ericksen. We are also thankful for the blessing God gave Set Apart in Monica Groves, who led the conference for the next 25 years, keeping the focus on Christ and for the support and guidance of Gayle Cureton, wife of former University President Dr. Alan Cureton, over the last 20 years. Of course, we are especially thankful for all of the many women who have attended and supported Set Apart over the years, and for those who are with us today.
Set Apart offers a special time for women to listen, learn, connect, and be encouraged in their faith. It is refreshing for their spirits and their hearts as they hear keynote speakers and soak in the presence of the Lord. Women participate in worship, learn from dynamic workshops, and enjoy fellowship with sisters in Christ. God turned four women’s dream into a reality and has sustained and flouished that dream for 43 years.

In the first-person narrative voice, Pati will share Corrie's godly wisdom and Scriptures that guided her life as she travelled around the world as a missionary, evangelist, speaker, and author. Corrie truly knew her identity as a chosen child of God. She was His when she was raised in a loving Christian family. She was His when she was imprisoned in Nazi Concentration Camps. She was His when God miraculously delivered her from her enemies. She was His when He called and commissioned her to tell her faith-filled stories and proclaim the gospel in 62 countries. Yes, Corrie ten Boom was His child and His faithful servant for 91 years. And now she is His daughter in heaven forevermore! Hearing the timeless testimony of God's faithfulness to Corrie will hopefully inspire you to follow our Savior as closely as she did!
Pati Kachel received Jesus Christ as her Savior when she was 13. For the past 53 years, she has experienced the abundant life that He promised to those who would follow Him. It has not been an easy life, but the Lord has helped her all along the ups and downs of her faith journey as a single woman. My Kids are His!
Teresa Lindahl
On January 27, 2011, my 7-year-old son skied head first into a tree at Trollhaugen. The surgeon sawed his skull apart, cauterized a bleeding artery in his brain, and stitched his head back together with 113 stitches. As God carried me through the days, weeks, and years which followed, I learned to trust God with my kiddos. He who spared not His own Son, spared mine. Can He who created our children be trusted with our children? Are we parenting our children like they are ours or His? When my family started skiing the next winter, we did so with faith, not fear. Women will walk away free of the fear which consumes today's parents.
Teresa Lindahl - I am a lover of Jesus, wife of one for over 30 years, and retired homeschool mother of four kiddos (two of whom attended UNWSP). At age 28, the Lord opened my eyes while reading John 1:1, and my passion for Jesus and His Word has never waned. He incessantly opens doors for me to share the Gospel in roles such as; Women's Conference Speaker, Children's Ministry Coordinator at Stillwater Evangelical Free Church, Private Piano Instructor to 58 students, Facilitator of Toastmaster International public speaking classes for homeschooled children, and Writer of the Pursuing Perfection blog (tessalind.substack.com). As I continue to be transformed into His image through trials, you will often find me playing Chopin at my grand piano, walking my Siberian Husky, reading theology books, or talking to Jesus.

Discover five practical ways to learn how to listen expectantly for His voice – even after closing your Bible.
Marie T. Palecek is passionate about listening for God’s voice in the simple things of life, and share those morsels with her audience and readers. He's Enough!
This workshop will be a combination of my personal story of how God’s unconditional love rescues, redeems, and restores His daughters, supported by contextual passages that emphasize the complete and inexhaustible sufficiency of Jesus Christ. Friends, we don’t need to be a “better versions of ourselves” we need a heart that emulates the Imago Dei of Jesus Christ! It’s in our understanding of His “enough-ness” that we, as His beloved, find our true wholeness!
Gretchen Stevenson has served as a teacher, mentor, writer, and discipleship enthusiast for the past two decades,! And she has served eight years as the Pastor to Women at Rockpoint Church in Lake Elmo. It's her delight to be a voice of encouragement, counsel, and biblical instruction to women around the world. She's led more than a dozen mission trips to Haiti and she regularly travels to Kenya to teach and equip women to study the Bible. She also serves as a volunteer Bible teacher at The Dwelling Place. Her passion is Jesus, and she is compelled to share of His amazing love and grace that helped her overcome trauma and find life, healing, and wholeness through faith in Jesus Christ. She lives in Minnesota where she enjoys being on the water, hiking, playing games, and taking long road trips with the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Mark. Gretchen loves to create special moments to share with friends and family, especially her three adult children and her one amazing daughter-in-law.
