PARA PENSAR O MUSEU As metamorfoses que o conceito de cultura sofreu desde meados do século XIX são consideráveis e dão a pensar sobre as causas dessas mudanças. Compreender o campo cultural no presente é um exercício que está relacionado a tais processos. Quando o solo se torna movediço, o que acontece com os dispositivos que se caracterizam pela estabilidade? Quando os referenciais da cultura se embaralham, o que se passa com instituições que davam consistência àquilo que anteriormente parecia constante e evidente? Nesse tabuleiro em ebulição, a peça que representa o museu desempenha papel capital – e sacoleja. Fiéis depositários de objetos e valores, os museus metaforizaram, durante longo tempo, a garantia secular de que o passado se espelharia no porvir. Não surpreende que vozes insurgidas contra uma noção estabelecida de cultura tenham mirado com especial atenção os museus. Desenham-se, nesse quadro, dinâmicas peculiares entre sociedade e instituição, sugerindo novos desafios àqueles que se dedicam a gerir tais equipamentos. Enfim, é o próprio encaixe do museu na máquina social que está em jogo, acusando brechas por onde se infiltram questões para além da esfera cultural, que invadem os domínios do político e do econômico. Esse panorama tem influência direta na gestão de tais espaços. Afinal, na medida em que a volatilidade da paisagem sociocultural exige desses espaços
THINKING ABOUT MUSEUMS Since the middle of the nineteenth century, the concept of culture has been considerably transformed and provides questions about the causes of these changes. Comprehend the cultural field in the present time is an exercise that is related to these processes of transformation. When the ground becomes unstable, what happens with the mechanisms characterized by stability? When culture references scramble, what happens with the institutions that gave consistency to what, previously, looked constant and clear? In this turbulent board, the piece that represents museums has a primordial role – and trembles. Faithful storehouses of objects and values, the museums where metaphors, for a long time, of the secular insurance that the past would mirror itself on the future. It is not surprising that voices speak out against an established notion of culture have been specially directed their attentions to museums. Outline, in this picture, peculiar dynamics between society and institutions, suggesting new challenges to those who dedicates themselves to administrate such cultural facilities. Finally, fitting the museum in the social mechanism is at risk, showing gaps where through infiltrate questions not only from the culture field, but also from politics and economical domains. This scenario has direct influence over the management of these facilities. After all, according to the volatility of the sociocultural panorama, it is demanded from
a reinvenção de argumentos a favor de sua atual relevância, aspectos relacionados à sustentabilidade ganham importância. Face à dificuldade em se estabelecer a cultura como prioridade e à busca de formas alternativas de viabilização econômica, social, cultural e mesmo ambiental colocar em pauta a gestão dos museus torna-se especialmente pertinente. É segundo tal perspectiva que se dá a parceria entre Sesc e Museu Paulista – dentro do contexto de cooperação técnica entre Sesc e Universidade de São Paulo – para a realização do Seminário Internacional Desenhando o futuro: gestão e sustentabilidade nos museus, iniciativa que pretende jogar luz sobre os caminhos que as instituições têm trilhado a fim de assegurar a continuidade de suas ações. Os debates aqui implicados transbordam a dimensão econômica, invadindo aspectos como a responsabilidade com a sociedade e as conexões com o tecido urbano. Cabe salientar que a reflexão acerca dos modelos de atuação de um museu abarca níveis de decisão que expressam, no limite, a concepção de política cultural que subjaz a cada escolha. Propor diálogos de caráter público com gestores e especialistas de Brasil, Canadá, México e Portugal é a forma que os proponentes desse encontro elegeram para que os saberes dispersos em territórios diversos possam ganhar amplitude e repercutir no cotidiano das instituições. Trata-se também de uma oportunidade de abordar o tema da gestão de museus com a abertura e profundidade adequadas, reconhecendo nesse assunto o potencial para intervir de modo decisivo na vida cultural de indivíduos e coletividades. these facilities the reinvention of arguments in favor of their current importance, and aspects related to sustainability gain importance. Against the difficult in setting the culture as priority and the search of alternative ways of economic, social, cultural and even environmental viability, to put on the agenda the management of museums becomes especially pertinent. It is according to this perspective that Sesc and the Paulista Museum formed a partnership – inside the technical cooperation context between Sesc and the University of Sao Paulo – to the achievement of the International Seminar Designing the Future: management and sustainability in museums, an initiative that intents to illuminate the paths the institutions have trodden in order to assure the continuity of their actions. The proposed debates reach the economical dimension and invade aspects such as responsibility with society and links with the urban environment. It should be noted that the reflection regarding models of a museum performance includes levels of decisions that manifest, in the limit, the political cultural conception that underlie each choice. To propose dialogues of public features with managers and authorities from Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Peru and Portugal is the way the proponents of this encounter elected in order that knowledge dispersed in different territories may acquire amplitude and reverberate in the institutions daily lives. It is also an opportunity to address the issue of museums management with the adequate opening and depth, recognizing in this matter the potential to interfere in a decisive way into the cultural life of individuals and collectivities. In Brazil, IBRAM is leading and coordinating the Ibero-Museus research. Devoted to the discussions of economic dimension of museums: how do institutions can become “economically viable”? Which are the economic operations appropriated in the world of museums? Where each institution projects their even point? Marcelo Mattos Araujo, due to his vast experience and expertise, will present the Brazilian scenario of museums, pointing to possible alternatives. MESA 3 - COMO OS MUSEUS PODEM AJUDAR A CONSTRUIR SOCIEDADES MAIS JUSTAS E INCLUSIVAS? O que as instituições consideram “socialmente justo”? E, principalmente, como têm materializado essa visão? O Museu Canadense para os Direitos Humanos dedica-se ao debate sobre os direitos humanos e a construir uma instituição que atua socialmente a partir de ações focadas em materializar políticas e ações no seu cotidiano. O Museo Memoria y Tolerancia, localizado no México, por sua vez, nasceu do desejo de refletir sobre as motivações que possibilitam o cometimento de crimes contra a humanidade e contra as populações mais vulneráveis. Na raiz desse debate está o entendimento do conceito de (in)tolerância e dos crimes de ódio. Partindo do entendimento do Holocausto, mas ampliando a discussão para outros crimes cometidos contra a humanidade, a instituição promove ampla reflexão sobre os desafios em um mundo permeado por conflitos, e sobre como podemos agir na construção de sociedades mais justas e diversas. Finalmente, para discutir a situação brasileira neste contexto, o Memorial da Resistência, para além de uma instituição dedicada à memória política do país, atua também em ações de reflexão democrática e cidadã. ROUNDTABLE 3 - HOW CAN MUSEUMS COLLABORATE IN BUILDING MORE INCLUSIVE AND FAIRER SOCIETIES? What do institutions consider as “socially fair”? And, most of all, how do they materialize this point of view? The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is devoted to the debates regarding human rights and to create an institution that acts socially from actions focused in materializing management politics in its daily practices. The Museo Memoria y Tolerancia, in Mexico, was created by the intention of reflecting upon motivations that enable crimes against humanity and vulnerable populations. At the root of this matter lies concepts such as (in)tolerance and hate crimes. Starting with the Holocaust and enlarging the discussion for other crimes committed against humanity, the institution promotes wide reflection about the construction of fairer and diverse societies. Finally, to discuss the Brazilian situation in this context, the Memorial da Resistência, not only an institution dedicated to the country’s politics memoy, puts efforts in actions of democratic and citizen reflections. Which are the efforts the institutions have been doing to develop and materialize their visions in the scenarios in which they are? Atua no Instituto Brasileiro de Museus desde 2009 e, como coordenadora da área de estratégias e sustentabilidade, no Departamento de Difusão, Fomento e Economia de Museus, desde 2016.
RENATA MOTTA Formada em Arquitetura e Urbanismo pela Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo, de onde obteve também os títulos de mestre e doutor (FAU-USP). Tem experiência na área de Arquitetura e Urbanismo, com ênfase em Museus e Gestão Cultural, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: museu, política pública, gestão. De 2011 a 2016 atuou na área de museus da Secretaria da Cultura do Estado de São Paulo, como Diretora Técnica do Sistema Estadual de Museus (SISEM-SP) e Coordenadora da Unidade de Preservação do Patrimônio Museológico (UPPM). Atualmente está vinculada à Universidade de São Paulo, como Assessora do Gabinete da Reitoria para a área de museus e coleções. É presidente do ICOM Brasil.
MARCELO MATTOS ARAUJO Presidente da Japan House, em São Paulo, ex-presidente do Instituto Brasileiro de Museus – IBRAM, Ministério da Cultura (2016-2018). Bacharel em Direito pela Universidade de São Paulo, Especialista em Museologia pela Fundação Escola de Sociologia e Política de São Paulo, e Doutor pela Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo. Foi Secretário de Cultura do Estado de São Paulo (20122016), Diretor da Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (2002-2012) e Diretor do Museu Lasar Segall, em São Paulo (1997-2001).
SPEAKERS PATRÍCIA ALBERNAZ Master degree in Cultural Tourism and Specialist in Ecotourism from the Center of Excellence in Tourism (CET/UnB) and degree in Sociology at the University of Brasilia. Federal public employee. Works for the Brazilian Museums Institute since 2009 and, since 2016, is the coordinator of the Strategies and Sustainability area, in the Department of Diffusion, Promotion and Economy of Museums.
RENATA MOTTA Holds a degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the Architecture and Urbanism School of the University of Sao Paulo, from where acquired the Master and Doctor degree. Experience in the field of Architecture and Urbanism with emphasis in Museums and Cultural Management, especially in the following themes: museum, public politics, management. From 2011 to 2016, was Technical Director of the Museums State System from the Cultural Agency from Sao Paulo State (SISEM-SP) and Coordinator of the Unity of Preservation of Museological Heritage (UPPM). Currently, is linked to the University of Sao Paulo, as Advisor of the Dean’s Office regarding the area of museums and collections. President of the ICOM Brazil.

Graduation in Law School at the University of São Paulo, specialization in Museology at the Foundation Sociology and Politics School from Sao Paulo [Fundação Escola de Sociologia e Política de São Paulo], and doctorate degree at the Architecture and Urbanism College, University of São Paulo. NORMAN VORANO Pesquisador interdisciplinar e curador de arte indígena contemporânea da América do Norte e especialista em arte Inuit e estudos museológicos. Leciona na Queen’s University, Canadá, como pesquisador nacional em Arte Indígena e Cultura Visual e atua também na galeria da universidade, o Centro de Arte Agnes Etherington. Obteve seu PhD pelo Programa de Estudos Visuais e Culturais da Universidade de Rochester e, de 2005 a 2014, foi curador de Arte Inuit Contemporânea no Museu Canadense de História, o museu nacional do Canadá de história social e antropologia. Organizou a exibição itinerante Picturing Arctic Modernity: North Baffin Drawings from 1964 (2017) e Inuit Prints, Japanese Inspiration: Early Printmaking in the Canadian Arctic (2011), deste editou o livro. Em 2017, recebeu uma bolsa prestigiosa da Fundação Pierre Elliot Trudeau para apoiar o desenvolvimento de uma Rede de Pesquisa de História Cultural do Ártico.
BEATRIZ CAVALCANTI DE ARRUDA Historiadora e museóloga - bacharel (FFLCH/USP) e licenciada (FEUSP/ USP) em história; especialista em museologia (CEMMAE/USP), especialista em Gestão e Políticas Culturais (Universidade de Girona/Itaú Cultural), e mestre em museologia (PPGMus/USP). Tem experiência em pesquisa, elaboração e coordenação de projetos e planos museológicos. Foi diretora do Museu da Cidade de São Paulo entre setembro de 2015 e dezembro de 2016. Atualmente, presta assessoria para a direção do MAC USP. É membro do Conselho Internacional de Museus, ICOM, desde 2005. E foi eleita para o Conselho Regional de Museologia 4R, mandato 2017/2019.
JOHN YOUNG Desde 2015, atua como diretor e chefe-executivo do Canadian Museum for Human Rights, onde participou como membro do conselho de administração desde 2012. Foi reitor e vice-presidente acadêmico da University of Northern British Columbia, onde assumiu papel de liderança conforme a univerdade adquiria importância no cenário acadêmico canadense. Possui extensa produção acadêmica em questões de democracia, direitos humanos e liberdade. Obteve reconhecimento pela University of Northern British Columbia pela excelência de ensino.
NORMAN VORANO Dr. Norman Vorano is an interdisciplinary scholar and curator of historic and contemporary Indigenous arts of North America, and a specialist in Inuit art and museum studies. He teaches at Queen’s University, Canada, as a National Scholar in Indigenous Art and Visual Culture, and holds a cross-appointment to the University gallery, the Agnes Etherington Art Centre. Vorano received his PhD from the University of Rochester’s Program in Visual and Cultural Studies and, from 2005 to 2014, was the Curator of Contemporary Inuit Art at the Canadian Museum of History, Canada’s national museum of social history and anthropology. He organized the traveling exhibitions Picturing Arctic Modernity: North Baffin Drawings from 1964 (2017) and Inuit Prints, Japanese Inspiration: Early Printmaking in the Canadian Arctic (2011), and edited the accompanying book for the latter. In 2017, he was the recipient of a prestigious Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation Fellowship to support the development of an Arctic Cultural History Research Network.
BEATRIZ CAVALCANTI DE ARRUDA Historian and museologist – bachelor’s degree in History at the School of Philosophy, Literature and Human Sciences and the School of Education from the University of Sao Paulo; specialized in museology at the Museum of Archeology and Ethnology from the University of Sao Paulo, specialized in Management and Cultural Policies at the University of Girona and Itau Cultural, and master’s degree in Museology at the Post-Graduation Inter-units Museology Program at the University of Sao Paulo. Holds experience in research, developing and coordinating museological projects. Between september 2015 and december 2016, Ms. Cavalcanti de Arruda was the director of the Museum of the City of São Paulo. Currently, is advisor at the direction of the Museum of Contemporary Art from the University of Sao Paulo. Is also a member of the International Council of Museums since 2005. Was elected to the Regional Board of Museology 4R, mandate 2017/2019.
JOHN YOUNG Since 2015 is the director and chief-executive of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, where was already engaged as a member of the executive border since 2012. Dean and vice-academic president from the University of Northern British Columbia, where player a role of leadership at the growing importance of the university in the Canadian scenario. John Young has extensive academic production in subjects related to democracy, human rights and liberty. Was granted by the University of Northern Brittsh Columbia by it excellence in teaching.
ADÁN FAJARDO Internacionalista, formado pela Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México. Professor da cátedra de Derecho y Política Internacional y del Taller de Investigación Social, professor adjunto das cátedras de Derecho Internacional y Derecho de los Tratados para el Programa de Relaciones Internacionales e assistente de pesquisa na Linha de Pesquisa “Governabilidad e Instituciones Políticas en América Latina” do Departamento de Ciências Sociais e Políticas da Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México. Sua área de especialidade e pesquisa é segurança e governabilidade através de política e direito internacionais. Desde 2014 atua como diretor acadêmico do Museo Memoria y Tolerancia.
MARÍLIA BONAS Historiadora, especialista em museologia pelo Museu de Arqueologia e Etnologia da Universidade de São Paulo e mestre em Museologia Social pela Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa. Atuou como diretora do Museu do Café (Santos/SP) e do Museu da Imigração (São Paulo/SP). Atualmente, é a coordenadora do Memorial da Resistência de São Paulo.
FRANCO REINAUDO Formado em Gestão de Empresa Turística pelo “Istituto delle Scienze Turistiche” Florença, Itália e Marketing pela Universidade Mackenzie. Cursou Filosofia e Língua e Literatura Inglesa na PUC de São Paulo. Ativista e Consultor sobre direitos humanos, diversidade sexual e políticas de inclusão da população LGBT no ambiente de trabalho. Colaborou com o planejamento estratégico da Parada do Orgulho LGBT de São Paulo entre 1999 e 2001. Foi responsável pela Coordenadoria de Assuntos da Diversidade Sexual da Prefeitura de São Paulo, órgão responsável pelas políticas públicas para a comunidade LGBT do município, entre 2009 e 2012. Atualmente, dirige o Museu da Diversidade Sexual da Secretaria de Estado da Cultura de São Paulo, primeiro espaço da América Latina e terceiro do mundo, sobre a temática LGBT.
ADÁN FAJARDO Internationalist, graduated by Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México. Professor at the chair in Law and International Politics and at the Workshop of Social Investigations, adjunct-professor at the chairs in International Law and Law of Treaties and Agreements for the Program of International Relations and research assistant at the research program “Governability and Political Institutions in Latin America” from the Department of Social and Political Sciences for the Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de Mexico. Your expertise field and research is safety and governability through international politics and law. Since 2014 is academic director of the Museo Memoria y Tolerancia.
MARÍLIA BONAS Historian specialized in museology by the Museu de Arqueologia e Etnologia da Universidade de Paulo and with a master’s degree in Social Museology by the Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa. Has served as director of the Museu do Café (Santos/SP) and the Museu da Imigração (São Paulo/SP). Currently, Ms. Bonas is the coordinator of the Memorial da Resistência de São Paulo.
FRANCO REINAUDO Holds a degree in Touristic Management at “Istituto delle Scienze Turistiche”, Florence, Italy, and Marketing, at the Mackenzie University, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Studied Philosophy and Language English Literature at PUC Sao Paulo. Activist and advisor about human rights, sexual diversity and inclusive politics of the LGBT population in work environments. Has collaborated with the strategic planning of the Gay Pride Day in Sao Paulo between 1999 and 2001. Responsible for the Coordination of Sexual Diversity Affairs from the Sao Paulo municipality administration, agency responsible for the public politics for the LGBT community from Sao Paulo, between 2009 and 2012. Currently, is director of the Museum of the Sexual Diversity from the Culture Agency of the State of Sao Paulo, first in Latin America and third in the world, devoted to the LGBT theme.
JOANA FONSECA Historiadora pela Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa, onde também realizou pós-graduação em Museologia. Mestrado em Artes Decorativas pela Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Desde 2017, é diretora-adjunta da Fundação Oriente / Museu do Oriente, tendo atuado na mesma instituição como curadora, museóloga e técnica de animação sócio cultural.
EDUARDO SARMENTO Graduado em História (UFRPE), Especialista em História das Artes e das Religiões (UFRPE), Especialista em Gestão Cultural (UFRPE/FUNDAJ/ MINC), Mestre e Doutor em Antropologia (UFPE). Tem experiência, de mais de 16 anos, no planejamento e gestão de equipamentos culturais e políticas patrimoniais, tendo assumido a Gerência do Centro de Formação e Pesquisa e Memória Cultural – Casa do Carnaval (Secult/ PCR) e Coordenação de Patrimônio Imaterial (FUNDARPE). Atualmente assume a Gerência Geral do Paço do Frevo, Recife-PE (Secult/IDG).
RENATO CYMBALISTA Livre-Docente pelo Departamento de História da Arquitetura e Estética do Projeto da FAU-USP. Possui graduação em Arquitetura e Urbanismo pela Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo (1996), mestrado em Estruturas Ambientais Urbanas pela Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo (2001) e doutorado em Estruturas Ambientais Urbanas pela Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo (2006). Integra o Laboratório para Outros Urbanismos (FAU-USP) e coordena o grupo de pesquisa Lugares de Memória e Consciência (USP-CNPq).

Since 2017 é adjunct-director of the Fundação Oriente / Museu do Oriente, where she has also played roles as curator, museologist and sociocultural animation technician.
EDUARDO SARMENTO Historian, specialized in Art and Religion History by the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, specialized in Cultural Management, with master’s and doctorate’s degree in Anthropology, by the Federal University of Pernambuco. Mr. Sarmento has experience, for over 16 years, in planning and management of cultural facilities and heritage politics. Served as manager of the Center for Training and Research and Cultural Memory – Casa do Carnaval and as coordinator of the Imaterial Heritage (FUNDARPE). Currently, Mr. Sarmento serves the General Management of Paço do Frevo, Recife-PE.
RENATO CYMBALISTA Full professor by the Architecture and Aesthetic History of the Project of the Architecture and Urbanism College, from the University of Sao Paulo. Holds Architecture and Urbanism degree (1996), master (2001) and doctorate (2006) degrees in Urban Environmental Structures at the University of Sao Paulo. Integrates the Laboratory for Other Urbanisms from the Architecture of Urbanism College – USP and coordinates the working research group Places of Memory and Conscience [Lugares de Memória e Consciência] at the University of Sao Paulo and linked to the CPNq.
