Join us for a Veterans Day Celebration
Event Program
Ceremony starts at 2:00pm in the Atrium with refreshments afterward.
Welcome!
The November 11th Veterans Day Ceremony is intended to honor all branches of the military. We’d like this time to be an opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all military service members, all veterans and their families. American Family Insurance is proud of our employees, agents, and customers who have served in the Armed Forces. We want to recognize those, as well as the members of our community, who have sacrificed so much to serve our country.
History of Veterans Day During World War I, fighting ceased when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.” In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first recurring commemoration of Armistice Day. Then, World War II required the greatest mobilization of soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen in the Nation’s history. After American forces had fought aggression in Korea, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, June 1, 1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars. The observance of Veterans Day not only preserves the historical significance of the date, but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: A celebration to honor all those who have served for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. 8-5x11_FlagPages.indd 1

BRANDING CAMPAIGN 2002 Branding Campaign - Logan’s Heart & Smiles When Logan’s Heart & Smiles was founded in 2002 I was hired to create a logo, brochure, and a stationery package. In 2007 I created a website so that Logan’s would be able to attract donations and provide information to those who seek it’s services. The website has since been redesigned by another non-profit in 2011. www.logansheartandsmiles.org.

REBRANDING CAMPAIGN 2013 Rebranding Campaign - Logan’s Heart & Smiles Logan’s Heart and Smiles is a non-profit organization that provides labor and materials to build wheelchair ramps, fencing, and small home modifications to those families that have special needs children and young adults in the Dane County Area of Wisconsin. Over thirteen years ago a little boy named Logan Herr, who had Cerebral Palsy, passed away at the age of four from pneumonia. After Logan’s passing his father Joe started Logan’s Heart and Smiles as a non-profit foundation dedicated to the memory of his son. He wanted to help others that go through the same struggles he went through with Logan. Joe’s motto is that “It shouldn’t be a luxury to get your child in and out of your home”. Some people don’t really see how difficult getting a child in an out of a home can be if you don’t have a wheel chair ramp. To start off the process of rebranding Logan’s research was conducted and a Creative Brief was created to establish what was needed by the foundation. Additional research was then conducted along with a communications audit, competitive audit, a SWOT analysis, and two personas where identified. The creative brief is shown on the right and the bottom graphics show the competitive research results for the brand. Client Brief

This seminar will discuss the key data center strategy success factors you need to know when making a data center transformation, including: consolidation, transformation, migration, moves, external solutions, or other related transitions. The discussion will focus on the key drivers related to a successful data center strategy including: 1. How important is it to understand my “Current State Baseline”? 2. What is considered proper planning? 3. What are the factors involved in capacity planning? 4. Should we complete IT upgrades during a data center migration? 5. What level of resources do we need to complete a data center transformation?
Please RSVP by May 31st
Postcard Designing a postcard invite about a ground breaking ceremony that would be sent to all of TEAM’s clients and potential clients in the Madison and Milwaukee areas. The postcard was to help create interest in TEAM’s new data center. The client sent out 300 post cards. PRODUCT BROCHURE, MANUALS, & CATALOGS For Warner Electric I created product brochures, manuals, and catalogs. The client used each of these for clients, distributors, and potential clients in the manufacturing industry. The product manuals where printed in-house and shipped to the different plants nationally and internationally. The brochures and catalogs where professionally printed in full color and distributed when requested by the customers and distributors.

PAPER BASE (PBT) AND WEB BASE (WBT) TRAINING This is Formsprag and Boston Gear’s Paper Based and Web Based training courses. When I was working for Warner I also designed for the other divisions within the parent company of Altra Industrial Motion. Altra wanted to provide paper based and web based training for their employees and customers. I started out by creating the paper base courses for Boston Gear, Formsprag, and Warner Electric. Next I converted all the paper based courses into a web base Level 1 course. All of these where created in an HTML interactive program provided by Technomedia out of New Jersey. I also worked with two company Instructional Designers to create each course segment. After Level 1 was completed I went on to create Level 2 and 3. This web based training was able to keep a database of the progress of who took the courses and their progress. Not only did I create these course I was also the Administrator for them as well. This is private training course that requires an account. Here is the website to http://www.altramotion.com/elms/login.asp view/sign in for review.

The images on this page are technical drawings created while I worked for FlightSafety Services Corp. The division I worked for provided training for the Air Force Pilots that flew the C141, C5 and the KC135 airplanes. My role was to create a base panel and for each part that toggled or moved there would be a new graphic created to overlay using Authorware to animate it. An example would be the toggle switches moving up or down, lights on or off, different codes displayed, numbers changing and etc. There where a team of digital artist and each was assigned different training courses to work on at one time. I created the panels shown on this page along with all the graphics that where to be used for the animations. The delivery of these courses where done by computer.

Created a company Christmas card in 2008 for Tri-North Builders. I started out by creating the background as a watercolor painting and decided to continue it with the presents and snowman. The crane is a pen and ink drawing that I did a few years back. I scanned each piece of artwork and created a working document in Photoshop. In 2010 I added the bobcat and trailer and both where created in Illustrator and then brought into Photoshop. The reference photos for both the bobcat and job trailer where taken from the shop’s bone yard. The rock and pond where created in Photoshop. All the elves and the deer where purchased from BigStock stock photos. After the first card was created and was such a success I was asked to continue the story for the following two years. 2008 and 2009 Christmas cards where printed by a local printer and the 2010 was used as a email blast by Creative Company for Tri-North.

FINE ART/ILLUSTRATIONS A pencil drawing of a dog “Peanut” for a client. This drawing was done on coquille paper and was framed for personal use. The photo reference for this project was taken by me.
The horse is a pencil drawing that was created for a client. This drawing was done on coquille paper and was framed for personal use. The photo reference for this horse was provided by the client.
The side view of a girl was done for a painting class. I love this technique where you scribble pencil on a canvas board, wash it with turpentine with a brush so the entire board is covered with a pencil film, then you take a kneaded eraser and start to carve out a picture. I used a photo reference from my history book of one of the “Masters”. This is for my personal use.
The little boy is a drawing I did for a friend of mine that has a non-profit foundation to build wheel chair ramps for special needs children and young adults. The little boy named Logan who lost his life to pneumonia that was a result of cerebral palsy. His father started a non-profit in his name so I created this pencil drawing on drawing paper and scanned it in to be used for the documents to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of helping area children. The photo reference was given to me by the founder. ® Creative Highlights by Serena Bales • email: serenambales@charter.net • designsbyserena.com • 608.291.2198

FINE ART/ILLUSTRATION Oil painting on a metal saw blade. I did this painting for a client of their old cabin and the new cabin. I used their photo references to create this painting. This is hanging up in their new cabin
This is an oil painting on canvas of my husband’s dog Utah. I took multiple photos of this dog and chose this shot for this project. I use this as an example of my creative ability.
Oil painting on a cast iron pan for a client. I used a photo reference of the cows and the client gave this to his wife for a Christmas present.
This is an oil painting of “Helen Hunt Falls” in Colorado Springs. I did a series of photos and drawings before creating this painting. I did this so I could try out different techniques for the water and rock textures. I use this as a sample of my creative ability.
