studied advertising, but he’s an artist and a painter in his soul.

This Colombian artist, whose family emigrated from Manizales to El Valle del Cauca region a few decades ago, came back to his origins after working for over 18 years for multinational agencies. His trajectory in advertising took him to ad agencies such as Ogilvy, Young & Rubicam, and DDB World Wide. He worked as Creative Director for several great brands, winning national and international awards.

To Benjamin, painting is something vital, intuitive, and he has been doing it since he can remember. Because of that, and after a long time, he has decided to come back to painting, and give it all for something different, something unique. His art is not only about paintings.

His “Histobras” (Stories and Paints) as he defines them, are written in parallel. He considers that the viewer should know the facts from the eyes of the creator. His ideas can, and in fact, must be read, as this duality sparks an internal fight between two souls, the viewer and the artist.

Publicista de profesión pero artista y pintor en cuerpo y alma.

Este Colombiano hijo de familia Caldense que migró al Valle del Cauca varias décadas atrás, regresa a su origen después de trabajar 18 años para agencias multinacionales de la publicidad como Ogilvy, Young and Rubicam y DDB Worldwide donde fue Director Creativo durante muchos años y tuvo la oportunidad de crear ideas para grandes marcas con las cuales obtuvo múltiples premios nacionales e internacionales.

Para Benjamín Sepúlveda pintar es algo vital e instintivo y lo ha hecho desde que tiene memoria, y es por eso, que después de una larga ausencia regresa para jugársela por algo diferente. Su propuesta no sólo se pinta, sus “HISTOBRAS” como él las define, se escriben y se pintan simultáneamente pues considera que el espectador que las enfrenta debe conocer la genética, la versión de los hechos desde la perspectiva de su creador. Sus ideas se pueden, es más, se deben leer, pues exige una pelea íntima entre dos almas.

A “Histobra” according to Benjamin Sepulveda, is an art piece created in two parallel bodies and timelines. At the time he is writing it in his mind, is usually the time he is painting the large format canvas with his rough and erratic strokes. The words are the soul of his “Histobras”. Sepulveda says “those words are written I a raw format, there are intense, disrespectful with the rules of the language; but they are the perfect complement to understand my art. It is very personal. My art touches upon dark subjects such as: abuse, prostitution, lack of love, rejection, and even political issues.

Una HISTROBRA según la define Benjamín Sepúlveda es una pieza de arte creada en dos cuerpos y tiempos simultáneos. El tiempo en el cual la va escribiendo en su mente y en sus notas por lo general, es el mismo donde la va plasmando en lienzos de gran formato con sus trazos bruscos y erráticos. Las letras son el alma de mis histobras dice Sepúlveda. Están escritas de manera cruda, intensa y hasta irrespetuosa con las figuras literarias, pero son el complemento ideal para entender mi propuesta personal, que toca temáticas que pueden pasar

de claras

a oscuras entre una y otra idea. El maltrato, la prostitución, el desamor, el abandono, la sátira política.
