Flat Knitting Technology

Introduction:  The technology of flat knitting gets invented in the year of 1865.  In the flat type of knitting machines, needles remain fixed and the cam move. The cam travels along with the breadth of the knitting machine.  We utilize these knitting devices to manufacture the flat type of weft-knitted garment. Several types of flat knitting devices: Our company is a leading knitting machine exporter in India. We export all types of flat and circular knitting devices. There are two fundamental varieties of these knitting machines which are as follows: 1. Flat-bed purl knitting machine 2. V-Bed rib knitting machine In flat-bed knitting devices, we employ a double hooked latch needle. The positioning of both the beds remains parallel to each other. In V-Bed knitting machines, we utilize latch needles. In these devices, the needle beds are present obliquely at an angle of 90 to 104 degrees.

Different components of the flat knitting machine: • Needle bed: 1. Flat knitting machines comprises of front and rear needle beds. 2. It is a metallic plate which contains precisely calculated slots. 3. In the slots, there are present the needles which glide forwards and backwards to form a knitting sequence 4. The space available between the slots and the width of the needle decides the thickness of yarn, which will be utilized by the machine.

The

needle-bed Racking of needle-bed: When there occurs the creation of loop, one of the needle-beds moves a little towards the side. This movement alters the placement of the needles, and we call it as racking of needlebed. To determine it, we calculate the needle spaces. Racking motion of needle-bed helps to attain the procedure of loop

transfer. It also assists in conveying the loop from one needle to another needle, i.e. spring-loaded needle. • Cam Boxes: In the flat knitting machine, the projecting butts go after the cam track. This action helps to trigger the needles to force them to glide up and down in the slots. The

cam box

The cam track present in the manually driven knitting machine consists of following three types of cams: 1.

Raising cams: When the needle butts come in contact with

the raising cams, they go upwards. The needles move from their resting place to carry out the knitting sequence. 2.

Lowering cams: On communicating with these cams, the

needle butts get forced in the downward direction. This movement of needle butts helps to perform the process of knock-over and loop formation. 3.

Fixed cams: The primary function of these cams is to

complete the smooth pathway of the cam track.

In the above image, the spotted line highlights the pathway of the needle to create a knit stitch.

Some Questions about Flat Knitting Technology • How can we produce miss stitch? On the outer side of the cam box, a lever is present to which a piece of metal called as cam remains attached. When we lift the lever, the cam gets withdrawn. When there occurs the withdrawing of the raising cam, then it results in the formation of miss stitch. • How to create a tuck stitch? Two types of raising cams are present in the cam box, which are as follows:

1. Primary raising cam 2. Secondary raising cam. When there occurs the withdrawing of the secondary raising cam, then all the needles fabricate the tuck stitch. When there occurs the withdrawing of the primary cam, it results in the creation of miss stitch. When both the primary as well as secondary cams get withdrawn, it produces the knit stitch. • How can we selectively create the knit, tuck and miss stitches? In between the fully inserted and fully withdrawn positions of the cam, there is present one more arrangement called as partially withdrawn of the cam. By employing high butt and low butt needles, we can selectively produce miss, knit, tuck and stitches. When the cam displays a fully withdrawn position, all the needles, i.e. high and low butt create miss stitches. When the cam shows the fully inserted arrangement, all the high, as well as low butt needles, causes the production of tuck stitches.

If the cam is available in a partially inserted position, all the low butt needles will create miss stitches whereas all the high butt needles will generate knit stitches. When we pull out the cams partially then only the high butt needles pursue the cam track whereas the low butt needles overlook the cam track.

Can we create two separate fabrics concurrently in a V-bed flat knitting machine? It is possible to create two distinct types of fabrics concurrently by utilizing a V-bed machine. By employing a feeder, we have to keep one set of needles fixed for the two courses. Then again, by using another feeder, we keep another set of needles stationary for the other two courses. We can depict the whole process in the form of an image as follows:

Notation of above picture: In 5th and 6th courses, one set of needles are going to carry out the process of knitting. But at the same time, another set of needles will fail to notice the yarn coming from the first feeder. In 7th and 8th courses, one needle set which has previously carried out the knitting process in 5th and 6th courses will miss the yarn. This yarn will be coming from the second feeder. But, the other needle set will perform the knit. Those needles which have missed the thread in the earlier two stitches will now achieve the knit. So, we can see that for creating two separate fabrics simultaneously; we will require to carry out four courses. Contact us: We are a pre-eminent knitting machine exporter in India.
