5. Be prepared to act fast. In a hot market, homes rent quickly. Once you find a place you love submit a lease application and be prepared to provide information for a credit check. Have your income verification ready. Consult with your realtor about ways to strengthen your application.

6. Once an application is accepted, be ready to sign a lease.
