ABOUT TRIPS & TOURS

Trips and Tours are open to everyone 18 and older. Individuals requiring special assistance must provide their own caregiver. Due to vehicle limitations, we are unable to accommodate wheelchairs on our trips at this time. If you use a manual mobility device, such as a walker, please notify the Trips & Tours office when you register for a trip. Some trips are not appropriate for mobility devices. See the Activity Level Guide on page 4 of this catalog to learn more about our trip ratings.

ABOUT SENIOR SERVICES FOR SOUTH SOUND

Founded in 1973, Senior Services for South Sound has been dedicated to supporting seniors in our community for over 50 years! Our mission is simple: Improving the quality of life for people as they age.

RESERVATIONS & POLICIES

The Trips & Tours staff act only as agents for trips and shall not be held responsible for any accidents, loss, or injuries that may occur. All passengers are covered by common carrier insurance. Trips & Tours does not accept liability for any carrier’s cancellation penalties. Senior Services reserves the right to refuse any person as a tour participant and expel anyone whose conduct is incompatible with the interest of the group.

Trips & Tours is a fragrance free business. We appreciate your cooperation.

Senior Services reserves the right to change the schedule without notice.

All trip participants must have an emergency contact form on file prior to trip departure. Trip guides will have forms available at points of departure.

TRIP DEPARTURES

Olympia Senior Center: 222 Columbia Street NW, Olympia. Lacey Community Center: 6729 Pacific Ave SE, Lacey – turn right at the roundabout and bear right into the parking lot. The Senior Services bus will pick you up near the bathrooms, not in front of the Virgil Clarkson Lacey Senior Center. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to trip departure time. All trips depart on time, drivers will not wait for latecomers.

PAYMENTS, REFUNDS AND CANCELLATIONS

Your full payment and/or deposit reserves your reservation and constitutes acceptance of our program terms and policies. Deposits and travel certificates are non-refundable. Reservations may be made online at southsoundseniors.org, by phone at 360.586.6181 Ext 126, or in person at the Trips & Tours office in the Olympia Center.

Day trips:

$20 non-refundable deposit to register

Payment in full due 14 days prior to trip

Cancellations 0-13 days prior - no refund

Cancellations 14+ days prior - full refund, minus $20 deposit

Overnight trips:

$50 non-refundable deposit to register

Payment in full due 30 days prior to trip

Cancellations 0-29 days prior - no refund

Cancellations 30+ days prior - full refund, minus $50 deposit

OTHER CANCELLATIONS

On rare occasions, trips may need to be canceled due to weather and road conditions, poor air quality, or other unforeseen circumstances. The safety of our travelers is our top priority. If a trip is canceled by Trips & Tours, a full refund will be issued within four weeks.

ACTIVITY LEVEL GUIDE

Contact T&T Office with questions about activity levels.

Easy

Minimal walking up to 1-2 blocks. Primarily flat, smooth surfaces, some steps. Frequent resting stops if more walking is involved. Walkers are typically okay with prior approval from the Trips office.

Moderate

Walking distances of up to 1/2 mile or 4-6 blocks, extended standing, uneven and unpaved surfaces. Multiple steps and possibly 1-2 flights of stairs. Resting areas may vary. Typically not appropriate for those who use walkers. Check with the Trips office.

Moderately Difficult

Walking distances of up to 1 mile or 8-10 blocks, extended standing, uneven and unpaved surfaces. Multiple steps and possibly 1-2 flights of stairs. Resting areas may vary. Possibly 3-5 times on and off the bus. Not appropriate for those that use walkers.

Difficult

Walking tours. Hikes up to two miles. Uneven surfaces. Greater number of stairs and steps. Possibly 3-5 times on and off the bus. Not appropriate for those who rely on mobility aids.

It’s summertime in the PNW! Let’s get out into the woods!

The Living Legacy Trail is a wellgroomed 1.75 mile loop with the perfect sampling of the best of the Eastern side of the Olympics. Throughout the entire hike, you’ll wind your way through cedar, Douglas-fir, maple, moss and rhododendron, all while skirting alongside the roaring Hamma Hamma River.

We’ll enjoy a deluxe picnic together after our forest adventure. On the way home, we’ll stop in Hoodsport for anyone who wants to stretch their legs or grab a coffee drink, Olympic Mountain ice cream, or any other welldeserved post-hike treat.

This will be a day of celebrating the history and industry of our great state! Join us for this very special private tour. This two-hour bus tour through the Port and the Tacoma Tideflats is about as close as you can get to international trade. Guided by our very own Port of Tacoma docent, we’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at one of the busiest ports in North America.

We’ll have a relaxing lunch together before we make a final stop at the Washington State History Museum for time to explore this museum’s vast collection that celebrates and showcases Washington’s history through artifacts, photographs, memorabilia, and archival material from prehistoric times to the present day.

All aboard! Take a step back in time and ride on a vintage train, pulled by a 100-year-old steam locomotive!

With stunning views of mountains, farmland, and surrounding forests, this 1 ½ hour round trip journey from Elbe to Mineral and back again is one that you’ll never forget. We’ll have lunch together at the Mill Haus Cidery and Pub, a warm and inviting Eatonville eatery. We have reserved a gorgeous communal table spot at Mill Haus and food and drinks are On Your Own. After lunch and drinks, we have one more stop to make at the Recycled Spirits of Iron Sculpture Park. If you have never been to this cool, funky outdoor sculpture park, you are in for a treat!

Join us as we head out to the rolling hills and farmlands of the Chimicum Valley.

To start our afternoon off right, we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch at the beautiful Finn River Cidery in Chimicum, Wa. After lunch, our knowledgeable Finn River tour guide will lead us on a stroll through Finnriver’s organic fields and orchard. We’ll follow the journey of the apple from juice to fermentation to bottling. The 1/4 mile loop around the orchard and cider barns is interwoven with stories of farm history, cidermaking styles, sustainability initiatives, apple, orchard and fermentation facts and insights into this local cidery’s mission. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to taste and savor six farmcrafted ciders and fruit wines.
