The Purpose of Arikare

Arikare was conceived to enhance the lives of people. We specialize in senior care to help people stay in the comfort of their home. We provide companionship, rides to appointments, patient advocacy when a family member can’t attend medical appointments and procedures. What began as a journey of helping family members, we saw the need in our community for a different kind of care. We are considered a home care placement agency under state standards in which we match you with caregivers to start and maintain healthy relationships.

Arikare was created right here in Pueblo with the help of Mrs. Agatha Jackson in 2013. We officially started serving Pueblo and surrounding areas in 2015. Our mission is to provide quality non-medical care to our community. The goal of Arikare is to partner with the client and their family to help meet the physical and emotional needs of patients. By providing quality non-medical services, we are meeting the needs of the community we serve. We are continuously monitoring our services to do well by doing good.~

It is the wish of all who enter the workforce to retire one day.

Most of us do retire but at different ages depending on many factors. Some want to work for as long as possible and in some cases forget to review the benefits only available after the age of 65. It is here where mistakes are made if you do not do any research.

The earliest you can retire is 62. If you are unable to work and are disabled prior to age 62 the Social Security Administration provides benefits that can support you until retirement. Medicare is mandatory for all who are turning 65 to apply

for benefits. The reason for this is that the Federal Government and the State Government share the load for healthcare and support for those retiring or disabled. If you do not become aware of these guidelines you could risk being penalized. This is usually a monetary penalty applied to your premiums once you finally get your benefits in place. Get the information you need today! Call us for an appointment. ~

Providers are paid by Medicare assignment.

No coverage outside USA.

No out-of-pocket maximum.

Many people add a Medigap plan, Part D or an Advantage Plan (Part C) to fill the “gaps” in the coverage.

Medicare Part B Medical Insurance

Most people pay monthly $185 (Premium could be higher based on income)

$257 annual deductible. (this can increase each year)

80/20 after deductible.

Plan covers: health care providers, ambulance, emergency care, outpatient surgical, wellness & other Medicare approved benefits

Most doctors accept Medicare.

What is Ahead for Medicare in 2026

Medicare has been changing yearly and 2026 will be no exception. What is ahead for Medicare this fall and why?

Carriers are still feeling the effects of the Inflation Reduction Act, which passed in 2022, but just took full effect in January of 2025.

Beginning January 1, 2025, people with Part D plans through traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans with prescription drug coverage, won’t pay more than $2,000 over the calendar year in out-of-pocket costs for their prescription medications, the donut hole or coverage gap is eliminated and there is a new payment plan to spread drug costs through the year. Those changes came at a cost to other benefits.

The Inflation Reduction Act significantly increased the carriers’ expenses and in response benefit cuts occurred for 2025 and will continue for 2026.

Carriers had to absorb the steep cost increase for the mandatory prescription drug plan changes by balancing the budget, which included increases in beneficiaries’ copays, deductibles added to plans, the plan maximum out of pocket increased, non-medical benefits were reduced, a prescription drug deductible was added and prescriptions were re-tiered or eliminated from the list of covered drugs.

2026 will see further adjustments as the carriers remove most benefits deemed non-medical. Seniors who have grown accustomed to benefits such as an over-the-counter allowance or food subsidy may see those benefits sharply reduced or eliminated this fall.

Plans must be submitted to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for approval in early spring to be ready for the enrollment period in fall to be active for the following calendar year, so carriers have had little time to study the impact of the Inflation Reduction Act on overall costs. Insurance moves slowly. The changes we are feeling in 2025 are the result of a bill passed in 2022 and will continue to affect plans in 2026.

This fall will feel like a continuation of the benefit cuts seniors faced in the fall of 2024 as carriers work to balance the budget while considering the increased prescription costs and trying to maintain the plan benefits seniors rely on. For more information visit: aismedicareandmore.com

In-Home Supportive Services

In Colorado, In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) is a Medicaidfunded program designed to assist individuals with disabilities or elderly individuals who need help with daily activities.

These services enable individuals to live independently in their own homes rather than in institutional settings. IHSS provides support with tasks like personal care, housekeeping, meal preparation, and medication management.

Eligible participants must meet specific criteria, including being a Colorado resident, requiring assistance due to a disability, and

meeting income and resource limits. Services are tailored to each individual’s needs and are delivered by trained caregivers, who may be family members or professional aides.

IHSS is an essential resource for people with disabilities or the elderly, enhancing their quality of life by promoting independence while providing necessary care. It also alleviates the financial burden of long-term institutional care, offering a more cost-effective and personalized solution for those in need. ~

RE-RESPITE CARE – Provided when the family needs time to rest or go out of town for a short time. Care may be provided in a long-term care facility depending on the condition of the individual. Hospice is responsible for financial arrangements with the Long-term care facility.

GIP – General In-Patient Care –Provided in a skilled nursing facility when the symptoms cannot be managed elsewhere. The skilled nursing facility must have 24-hour R.N. coverage as deemed by Medicare guidelines. General in-patient care is usually short in duration. This level of care is usually due to symptoms which are out of control and more intensive nursing services are required. If an individual is at a care facility, room and board are covered by hospice during this period.

CC-CONTINUOUS CARE – Provided to prevent the individual from going to the hospital when a crisis occurs. It also is given when more help is needed to assist the individual and family in coping with the crisis. This level of care is usually provided at the individual’s residence no matter where that may be. IN-PATIENT CARE – These hospices offer full hospice services in their

on-campus unit or building. The patient moves into the inpatient care facility to receive their hospice services rather than in the patients’ home setting.

LICENSED MASSAGE THERAPY –

MUSIC THERAPY – Music Therapy is an established healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals”. A music therapist creates goals and objectives for their patients and uses music activities and music experiences (listening, composition, improvisation, or playing/singing a familiar song) in order to achieve those goals. This is not reimbursed by Medicare.

VENTILATOR - Moves breatheable air into and out of the lungs, to provide the mechanism of breathing for a patient who is physically unable to breathe, or is breathing insufficiently.

WANDERGUARD - Offered at some facilities. A resident with memory loss or confusion wears a small discrete pendant. Each external door in the care home is fitted with a radio detector which detects when a pendant moves near an exit. The WanderGuard will sound an audible alarm, alerting the staff of a patient wandering. ~ Senior Housing Definitions continued from page 75
