Boomer Guide models go wild at Senior Safari zoo expo “Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have not called yet, but when they do, I’m ready.”
By Linda Wiggins Deborah Mazany had always dreamed of being a model, even as a little girl. It’s not that she wasn’t pretty enough, or slender enough, but somehow the years slipped by while she was waiting for just the right time and circumstance to do what she really, really wanted to do in her heart of hearts, dream of dreams. When she heard that Brevard’s annual Boomer Guide was looking for models to splash across its glossy, award-winning pages, she talked about it with a friend and all of a sudden, “it just went ‘click.’ ” The way-still gorgeous 51-year-old wasn’t waiting for anything anymore. Nearly 25 models answered the call and will find out at the Friday, Feb. 7 Senior Safari 2014 Boomer Guide Expo and Wellness Walkabout at the Brevard Zoo which one of them made the cover shot. Iconic covers of models channeling Rosie the Riveter and Marilyn Monroe from past retro expo themes the past two years have won first place for best cover photo from the North American Mature Publishers Association. Models will be on hand to greet their fans from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and officially recognized at 12:30 p.m. “This has given me a lot of confidence. I am definitely through waiting for anything and I am going to pursue my modeling career,” Mazany said. Current and past Boomer Guide models have done just that, including going to work for major companies that advertise in the magazine and in sister newspapers Senior Life and Viera Voice, which are also published by expo juggernaut Bluewater Creative Group. For Linda G. Jones, appearing in the Boomer Guide pages finally means that when people frequently ask her if she is a model, she can finally tell them ‘yes.” “Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have not called yet, but when they do, I’m ready,” Jones said. The next step for her is an invitation to audition for Burt Reynolds, who teaches acting classes twice a week in Jupiter and Stuart. While Mazany is the youngest

model, Jack Graziano holds up the other end of the spectrum at 89. For him, it’s all about not leaving your life on the shelf. “If you enjoy watching TV all day, great. But if you don’t, get out there and do something, get involved, volunteer, meet other people,” Graziano said. He and other models bonded during fun, fast-paced photo shoots in African safari and Australian outback gear at the zoo, lensed by award-winning professional photographer Keith Betterley. “You are never too old to do what you enjoy,” Graziano said.
