Career Proficiency Checks

Questions?

In partnership with the Missouri Division of Workforce Development, the University has developed four career proficiency checks. This groundbreaking approach is a proactive career search process requiring the following proficiencies are met to ensure that all students connect both academic and career planning.

1. Can I get help selecting a major? Our career professionals are trained in the use of a variety of assessments designed to help you examine your personal characteristics and match them with potential career titles.

CLOO1: Preliminary step to connect academic and career planning. Students complete a Web‑based career assessment such as FOCUS. Co‑requisite: Ul100 First‑Year Seminar CLOO2: Students discuss FOCUS results with career advisor, register for MissouriCareerSource.com and explore part‑time/ summer jobs that relate to career interest. Pre- or co-requisite: CLOO1 CLOO3: Students demonstrate minimal proficiency in finding an open position in their field, crafting a cover letter and resume for the position. Students update their profiles on MissouriCareerSource.com. Prerequisite: CLOO2 CLOO4: Students demonstrate advanced proficiency in finding an open position in their field, creating a cover letter for that opening and tailoring a resume for the position, or follow specific departmental guidelines for their academic programs. Students update their profiles on MissouriCareerSource.com. Prerequisite: CLOO3

2. Can I get help developing my resume and cover letter? Career Linkages offers free resume critiques to assist students and alumni in developing effective resumes and cover letters. 3. How do I prepare for an employment interview? Interviewing is a skill that is developed through practice. Career Linkages has career professionals who will conduct a mock interview with you, tailored to your profession, and then provide constructive feedback. 4. Can I get assistance with internships? Yes! Positions may be paid or unpaid and college credit can be earned (at the discretion of your department). Call (573) 651-2583 to schedule an appointment.
