Haircut Ideas for All Genders: Based on Face Shape and Texture (1) We all need changes time to time. I believe getting a new haircut is one of the easiest and the most effective way to freshen up. Needless to say, I am incredibly interested in hair and one of the many reasons for that, I change my look a lot. Most of the time, I trust my intuition with it and either I dye it to a color or I go and get a new haircut. I always have something in mind when I go to a salon however if you want to have a haircut but you don’t know what should you or could you get, this article will help you.

Oval Face Shape The defining feature of the oval face shape is the lack of sharpness along your chin, cheeks and forehead. This means your face is longer than your cheekbones, your forehead is wider than your jaw, and your head shape is generally curved without sharp corners. Oval face shape is believed to suit every type of haircut. Traditionally for males it was suggested to elongate their face shape to create a more masculine appearance and for females it was suggested to keep the roundness of their faces that would again show femininity. So, I leave it to your personal understanding of beauty. Typical haircuts for oval shaped face would be: comb over fade, slicked backed haircut, pixie or a classic, bob.

Square Face Shape Square face people have a wide, square jaw, and wide cheekbones. If you have a square face shape, your cheekbones will be set approximately as far apart as the widest point of your jaw. Square faced people believed to be really photogenic because of the sharpness of their jaw and the cheekbones. It’s believed that long bobs and generally textured long hairstyles are very suitable for square faced people because lines of the face are underlined. Due to the face structure, long hair does not flatten the face. For short hair styles, generally buzz cuts and comb over fades are found aesthetic.

Round Face Shape A round face has many of the same facial features as a square face, but without the angular dimensions and edges. A round face shape is all about equal width and length, without sharp cheekbones or a defining jawline. If you want to underline your cheekbones and elongate your face to strengthen dimensions in your face, you may want to have long haircuts that meets the below of your jawline. This would elongate your face. Also, if you use products that would create volume in your hair, this would also shape your face and create an aesthetic appearance. For long hair, generally it’s suggested to have up-dos.

Diamond/Heart Face Shape A diamond face is long and angular, with a pointy chin and wide, high cheekbones. The diamond face shape supports short to long haircuts and chiseled jawline can look softer with facial hair. Messy fringes, textured crops, fades and bangs are believed to be the most beautiful hair styles on diamond/heart shaped faces.

Oblong/Long Face Shape

The oblong face, also sometimes referred to as rectangular, is just a longer version of the square. As one of the most proportionate face shapes, this long face shape is balanced. Because it’s balanced it is longer than other face shapes. It’s not suggested to have long hair for long faces because it makes it look even longer. Even if you grow your hair it’s good to get a cut that’ll create texture in your hair. Buzz cuts look aesthetic in oblong face shape for long hair you may consider shoulder length.

Triangle Face Shape A triangle face is weighted towards the bottom of the face. If you have a triangle face shape, your jawline will be wider than your cheekbones and temple area, which are relatively thinner. Just like, square shape you have sharp lines in your face because of your bone structure so every type of long hair would look aesthetic. Also, there are several different types of cuts that would highlight your bone structure. Those are, pompadour, brush up, faux hawk or spiky hair.

In this article, I have talked about different types of face shapes and the haircuts that suits them the best in general opinion. However, it’s important to remember these are based on the beauty standards that we have in today’s society. This doesn’t mean if you have a long face shape, you can never be beautiful with long hair or a person who has a square face shape should always have a short hair. What makes people beautiful is being true to themselves and being confident in themselves. So, if you know what you want, don’t listen to me, don’t listen to anybody. You’re beautiful with your new hair cut.
