How poor Cyber Security measures can affect your EV One of the recent news stated “Teen hacker able to remotely control 25 Tesla vehicles across 13 countries. Electric vehicles are the future of Smart Mobility, improving the quality of the air that we inhale, handling issues like noise pollution and greenhouse emissions like a protector. Although, In any new innovation, there comes both good and bad features . Amongst all risks, cyber security factors are at forefront. While it is absolutely convenient to charge electric vehicles at home, EVs connected to a grid for charging are more susceptible to cyber attacks. Cyber attacks can possibly put a driver's life in danger by switching off headlights, malfunctioning brakes, or oversteering. Cybercriminals can do this by essentially jamming the vehicle control systems. Moreover, skilled miscreants can lower the capacity of an electric vehicles' battery limit by half , without making the driver notice. Privacy is a worry too, as it's been reported in 2019 that almost 23% of all cybersecurity incidents were privacy issues. The average cost of unauthorized access is $1.52 million, while the average cost of data leakage is $1.61 million. As more and more EV will get imported, different OEMs will have different security standards. This can lead to leakage of sensitive data as no standard framework has been maintained to withstand cyber attacks. The dangers are far more hard to imagine than just one vehicle or even one OEM . Furthermore, IoT assists an infected EV to communicate with multiple EVs and multiple charging stations to take control of the grid. This is as scary as it sounds, which can lead to catastrophic impacts on human lives. Indeed, even with secured hardware equipment, charging stations are at potential risk. People in general have seen instances of miscreants using charging stations to cause attacks. This is generally done through the Near-Field Communication (NFC) card that is used whilst charging when drivers charge their EVs. Furthermore,
