The Smartphone generation makes good use of selfie sticks - long poles that grip their mobile phones to take a self-portrait. Using a selfie that is ordinary, a face and background hardly fit into the frame. A selfie stick allows the consumer by moving the lens farther to fit more subjects within the frame. About a couple of years ago, the selfie stick surfaced in China, and from then on, it's been well received across the globe. They are certainly controversial and adored with numerous travelers due to handiness and their versatility. To others they may be narcissistic and obtrusive.

The terms "selfies" and "selfie sticks" are normally linked to millennials and the current digital world. Yet, a person's fascination with hisor her own image could be traced back to centuries old. The truth is, the Ancient Greek literature tells the tale of Narcissus who had been so delighted when he saw his reflection on the pool's surface that he drowned and fell indoors.

It was in 1839, a decade following the original photos were shot, when Robert Cornelius came out with the first selfie the world has ever understood, which came in the kind of a Daguerreotype of himself on silver-plated copper.

Together with tripod cameras among other home made gadgets in addition to the kindness of strangers and the introduction of self timers, self-portraiture developed farther. In 2002, the term "selfie" was first seen within an open forum coined by an Australian named Hopey. With billions of people using graphics tablets and smartphones now, it is easier to take a selfie. It only takes just a little practice to take a superb one.

To sum it up, the selfie is that old since it's been with US for quite some time. In 1983, Hiroshi Ueda, a family-photo enthusiast who worked at Minolta as an engineer, developed a device like the modern selfie stick. Sadly, this apparatus came to be a "3 am invention", meaning it was designed before its time. It did not do well in the marketplace, and his patent expired. In 2005, Wayne Fromm invented the "Quick Pod", a similar gadget that would be later altered by numerous manufacturers of selfie-sticks following the tendency shot-away by thunderstorm in China in 2010.
