What's Onin SPH Lippo Village

“He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither."

(Psalm 1:3)

Dear SPH LV Parents & Friends,

The verses of Psalm 1 came to mind as I read the various snapshots of our students’ learning experiences. Psalm 1 describes the blessing of growing up delighting in the things of our Lord and in relationships with those who desire to know and please their Creator God.

As you read this edition you will see glimpses of joys of learning together at SPH; learning in community with caring, godly teachers, and likeminded families.

Those who want the best for their children and know, God’s best is a life with deep roots firmly planted and growing in the nurture and admonition of the Word of God and growing in our relationship with Christ and with other Christ followers.

It is a true blessing to be part of the stream we know as SPH LV where our teachers, parents, and classmates grow together! Thank you, parents, for choosing LV as a Second Home for your sons and daughters.

Because He is faithful, GreggThompson Head of School SPH Lippo Village

Get Well, Get Swell!

K1 Wellness Day

Our little learners gathered together on a fine day to celebrate Wellness Day with their teachers, friends, and family! What is Wellness Day, you might ask? It's when they practice healthy living by going out for a swim, taking the time to rest, and eating nutritious food prepared by their beloved parents. Through this particular day, students got to learn first hand what it is like to practice healthy living in a fun way.

When it was time for a swim, we could see our K1 students' faces lit up at the sight of the glistening pool water. Before anyone jumped into the cool water, Ibu Patricia and Ibu Sienna introduced the students to some stretching to better prepare their muscles and body parts for exercising. They also encouraged the students to test the water bit by bit as they slowly adjusted to their surrounding environment.

While the children enjoyed the pool, K1 parents helped prepare healthy dishes ranging from mixed fruit platters to homemade sandwiches, and our students' favorite drinks, milk and Yakult! We believe encouraging our students to eat healthily and heartily will boost their growth and wellbeing.

A Fun Day out with our k2 families!

K2 Family Fun Day

Earlier in October, our K2 students had the opportunity to bring their family to school, which meant spending the whole day having fun with their loved ones! This time together with families plays an integral part in our children's growth, as it not only boosts their self-confidence but also helps them develop a positive behavior and academic performance.

Holding this Family Fun Day encourages parents to deepen the bond with their children through fun activities such as tug of war, face painting, and having a picnic together. We cannot stress enough the importance of parents simply making time to engage with their children. It does not have to be long hours, but the quality of the time spent is what matters. From telling them bedtime stories to participating in their favorite activity, little moments like these will surely last forever!

Look, it's our little readers!

Junior School Book Week 2022

For Junior School students, October means Book Week! A week where students are encouraged to read and explore reading in their classrooms as a part of their classroom activity from 3-7 October 2022.

This year's theme was Growing Reader, Growing Mind, and Growing Faith, which is connected to this year's annual theme of Arise and Shine. It was also taken from Isaiah 61:11, "For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations."

Students were encouraged to participate in various daily activities throughout the week. From styling their crazy hair, wearing pajamas for cozy reading, and becoming their favorite book character for a day, this book week was the whole package motivating students to find joy in reading and improve their reading skills.

A night from and for students!

Eagles Night 2022

When it comes to creating exciting events and activities, we can always count on our Senior School's Student Council!

For their first event of the year, the team brought back Eagles Night, an occasion for students to hang out, eat good food, and play. This year's Eagles Night brought back the togetherness and warmth of our community after two years of home-learning. The event was arranged like a carnival where students could go to different booths to explore a new activity.

Students who wanted to experience a light motor activity participated in bracelet-making with different kinds of bracelets and decoration options. For others, they channeled their sports spirit into their best time trying to score a point in the carnival games.

The Student Council set up a catchy photo booth for students to take pictures together, as well as a board on which students could write their prayers, remarks, or dreams they wanted to achieve this year. It was a great way and a great time to help students stay motivated this year!

SPH CUP

The Heartbeat of the Community

We are proud to announce that our SPH Cup is now back in action!

Each year, our Lippo Village Sports Department prepares various sports activities to benefit our students' physical health. One of those activities is SPH Cup, an annual and recurring event for SPH and other schools to participate in. Throughout the academic year, there will be competitions between SPH and other schools for each sports division and age range, such as Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, and many more!

This year, SPH Cup began with Basketball for grade 7 9 students who joined the after-school basketball program. Since this was the first SPH Cup since the pandemic, it was quite a novel experience for our students, as they learned what it was like to compete and improve their skills simultaneously!

Stay tuned on Managebac for more information and updates on our SPH Cup this year!

Our Annual University Visits are Back!

Throughout September and October, our University Counseling team has been working hard to assist our senior students as they prepare for their upcoming university journey. The team has provided numerous university visits, workshops, and continuous 1:1 consultations to guide students towards the right university and career choices.

The university visits gave students a closer look into each university invited to our campus. Students got the opportunity to ask the representatives anything, from the application guidelines and programs offered to the transition as a university student.

Our University Counseling program begins as early as Grade 9. Students will be guided personally by one of our counselors as they slowly but surely start to explore their interests and university choices until they are ready to leave SPH.

Teacher's Testimony

The Power of Language

Christi Palangi | EAL Teacher

Ibu Christi is our new English as Additional Language Teacher. Read Ibu Christi's testimony of God's work in her life and how she felt called to be a teacher at SPH.

Hello everyone, it is my pleasure to introduce myself & the journey that God has brought me through up to my time here at SPH.

I was born in Maluku Utara, Indonesia to a Christian family who are involved in Christian ministry through Bible translation This is the environment I grew up in, among parents who brought me to church, and missionary godparents who mentored me. I have learned closely from the work and lives of many God fearing adults.

I later moved to the US in high school and stayed through my undergraduate and graduate schools as an international student in a Christian school. Studying in an International Christian School with many other international students opened my eyes to the value and importance of English as a medium for global education. This inspired me to study TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) for my Bachelor & Master degrees, to equip myself in enabling others to equip themselves with this vital language skill.

Language is like a key that opens new doors and opportunities, so my goal in education is to empower students to acquire the English language so as to broaden their educational possibilities and potentials, just as I myself was empowered.

Throughout my educational journey in learning how to teach, I was blessed with opportunities to teach students from around the world, as well as to experience teaching around the world. These opportunities, as well as my own experiences as an international student, inspired me to seek out an educational career teaching internationally.

Upon graduation, my husband (also teaching at SPH) & I sought out various international teaching opportunities as our ministry, but the global pandemic forced us to remain in the US for a while. This did not stop us from being able to teach both in person locally, as well as online globally. However, with the gradual global return to normalcy, we thought about returning to Southeast Asia for the next season of our life to be closer to our families

Various connections made us aware of the teaching opportunities at SPH and God brought us here. Teaching EAL in SPH allows me to help students broaden their horizon as they enhance their English language abilities. I am excited to empower these students, both academically and spiritually And I am looking forward to seeing how God would use us for His ministry here in Indonesia.
