Medical Bills Blamed For Murder-Suicide

FDA Investigates Dozens Of Seizures Possibly Linked To E-Cigarettes

(Ferndale, WA) -- Medical bills are believed to be the cause of a murder-suicide in Washington state.

(Silver Spring, MD) -- The FDA is investigating dozens of seizures possibly linked to e-cigarettes. FDA officials say they're looking into 127 reports of seizures, fainting, tremors or other neurological issues dating back to 2010.

The Whatcom County Sheriff's Office says an elderly couple found dead earlier this week left behind notes expressing concerns about how to pay for medical care. Police say 77 year old Brian Jones called 911 to relay his plan and to let authorities know where to find the bodies.

Bayer Prepared To Pay $8 Billion To Settle Roundup Lawsuits (Whippany, NJ) -- Bayer is willing to pay as much as eight-billion-dollars to settle more than 18thousand lawsuits that allege its Roundup herbicide causes cancer. The Los Angeles Times is reporting talks are ongoing between the German drug and chemical giant and attorneys for the plaintiffs and that they could take months to complete. The big sticking point seems to be how to compensate people who come down with cancer in the future. Lawyers for the plaintiffs are seeking more than ten billion dollars in compensation.

Three dozen calls to Poison Control Centers specifically mentioned vaping. Several cases involved e-cigarette products used with amphetamine and marijuana.

NY Health Official Calls Deadly Mosquito Virus An "Imminent Threat" (Manorville, NY) -- A Suffolk County Health official is calling a deadly mosquito virus an "imminent threat" to public health. Health Commissioner James Tomarken says a Manorville mosquito sample has tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, a virus that can cause fatal brain swelling in humans. He's asking New York State to confirm a declaration of an imminent threat so it can bolster mosquito control measures. Only about seven cases a year are reported in the U.S. and there's never been a human case in Suffolk County.
