SEFTONRUFC SEFTONRUFC PROGRAMME PROGRAMME

You are in a club which many referees and visiting teams regard as the most hospitable in the North West. We are a totally amateur club; nobody gets paid. Adults are coached by an experienced Head Coach and play for any of three senior men teams. We also have the highest ranked Women’s team in Merseyside in our Ladies section. Junior/Mini players; “The Gunners” can play for any of twelve junior teams (each with a qualified coach of their own) and enjoy a warm welcome in our clubhouse.
Our membership is drawn from all sections of society, with ages from under six to worryingly old but they all have the desire to play rugby union.
Men’s training times: Tuesday & Thursday 7.00-8:30pn
Ladies training times: Tuesday and Thursday 7.00-8:30pm
Junior training times: Thursday 6:30-8pm

A very warm welcome to today’s visitors - let’s hope for a high-quality match with rugby union values displayed throughout.
The Chairperson’s lot is not always a happy one. In recent years instead of the game gradually evolving season on season it appears that with the promise and expectation of a new season comes a new challenge with Covid, lockdowns, energy/cost of living price hikes following one after the other over the last 4-5 years and now comes the imposition of new Tackle Height law changes. It is curious to note that whilst some club/coaches are predicting Armageddon for our game, resulting from this, voicing vociferous criticism at the CB meetings, belatedly called to explain the decision affecting Community Clubs, like ours - others are quite blasé insisting that their training methods always promote low tackle techniques and the ‘low sternum’ stricture will hold no worries for their players. This of course, at the time of writing, remains to be seen as does of course the effect of this additional burden on the referee, to whom we should all continue to express our deepest gratitude despite, perhaps, perceived injustices! Hopefully this issue will soak into our game as the season progresses and become just another little bump in the road
Sefton continues to grow as described by our President and further evidence of positive diversity can be found in the brand new, state of the art ‘gender neutral’ toilet facility at the entrance to the changing block This initiative, partially funded by The RFU, driven by the Ladies and carried out by a few brave (and skilful) men is, I believe, unparalleled in our circle of community rugby.
Outside, we have undergone a much-needed facelift arranged by Peter and Roy with some support from the membership (plenty of jobs still to do if anyone has a few spare hours??). And of course, it wouldn’t be a ‘notes from this chair’ without mentioning the early season pristine pitches whose recovery has been greatly aided by the weather, along with the summer pitch maintenance works carried out by our grounds contractors
Am very pleased to report a major “Sponsor a very professional presentation and cho hoped will bring in much n Amanda has covered the playing side of T comment about the significant rise in involved in the Senior sides having c and which underlines the critical our great

Originally founded in 1936, the De La Salle Sports & Social Club from Salford have produced rugby internationals, professional footballers, and lots of sports people that have gone on to represent both their town & county. The club has gone from strength to strength in the last 50 years with a membership totalling over 800 it now provides a clubhouse with a snooker and pool table, darts team, bowling team, quiz nights and a local community meeting place.
The two sides have not faced each other previously so it should make for an interesting first encounter. De La Salle finished 8th in the league in the previous season and have 1 win and 1 loss in the 23/24 season so far.
After two rounds, Sefton 1XV find themselves joint top of the league.
In the first game of the season, we welcomed Hoylake to Sefton. After a hard fought game Sefton ran out as victors, 27-25. There were many good performances with the game plan being executed. Tries came from Callum Rossiter (2), Nathan Lewis (1), Ali McKie (1), Seb Caine (1) and Jay Evans converting one try.
Confidence was high as we travelled to New Brighton for the second game. The weather was warm and the game began at a very high tempo with Sefton moving the ball well. The forward pack was exceptional with a good platform being laid for the backs to do their stuff. The team tackled well and the ball was kicked at the right times making the big New Brighton pack to c from Callum Rossi McKie (1), Kyle Sha kicking 2 penalties game ended Sefton fantastic result and by everyone. We lo De La Salle to Sefto
Jamie Luck CoachDriffield Rugby Union Club is a member of Yorkshire RFU. Driffield fields six senior teams (four men’s and two ladies), and mini/juniors at every age group from Under 6s to Under 16s, every week during the season, as well as a Colts side. This will be Driffield Ladies’ second season in Championship North 2 following their promotion from NC1 North East in the 2021/22 season. This will be the third time both teams meet with one win each in their last two encounters - both very close games so it promises to be an exciting encounter down at Thornhead Lane today.
This season my aim is to grow and expand our team. I want everyone to play each game with confidence and be able to showcase what amazing players they are. As a team we want to build on the improvements we made last season in this league and to keep improving.
The first game of the season is extremely important in setting the tone for how we move forward. We’ve worked hard in preseason and I’m excited to put it all into practice on the pitch on Sunday.
