Reading Fluency Passages provide teachers with a collection of th fiction, nonfiction, and poetry leveled texts for grades K-5. The passages are designed to be read aloud multiple times, allowing students to develop their speed and accuracy. This repeated practice empowers students to become more fluent, confident, and capable readers. Each lesson includes a comprehension activity to capture students’ understanding of the text they read. These lessons leverage Seesaw’s Reading Fluency Assessment and Formative Assessment tools to provide teachers with detailed data to support their instruction.

Best Practices

Preview the text: Before reading, preview the text with students and pre-teach vocabulary to build background knowledge and enhance comprehension. This practice activates prior knowledge and sets students up for success by familiarizing them with the content and structure of what they are about to read.

Implement repeated reading: Encourage students to read passages multiple times to improve speed and accuracy and to support comprehension.

Data-driven instruction: Utilize the assessment data to inform and adjust teaching strategies.
