Greetings to the Council of Bishops, Episcopal Supervisors, General Offices and the Officers and Members of the Connectional Women’s Missionary Society of the A.M.E. Church, and especially to our International President, Dr. Deborah Taylor King, our International YPD Director, Mrs. Richelle Fry-Skinner and our Executive Director of Global Witness and Ministry, Dr. John F. Green and to all Missionaries! What a blessing and a joy it is for me to have this opportunity to greet you in this new year, 2024.

Not only is it an honor for me to serve as Commission Chair of Global Witness and Ministry, but Supervisor Cordelia and I are deeply grateful to serve as your hosts for this Executive Board. We along with the wonderful constituents of the 12th Episcopal District, welcome you to the beautiful city of Little Rock, Arkansas, and we look forward to both a spirit filled and productive time planning our mission work for the near future.

Our theme, “Exalting Christ – Empowering Missionaries – Equipping the Saints for Greater Impact”, is our call to train, develop and prepare Missionaries to serve this present age. These unprecedented times demand that we meet heightened challenges with unparalleled strategies to meet the needs of God’s people today and in the future.

It is my prayer that when you leave this Executive Board Meeting that you would have received the tools necessary to make a greater impact by: 1. Demanding that our educational systems excel in meeting the needs of all students so that they are academically prepared to advance to higher levels of education.

2. Demanding that access to affordable healthcare is available to all with emphasis on our vulnerable populations.

3. Raising our collective voices to demand more. By our inaction, we have conveyed the maxim that silence gives consent. By our silence, we have allowed– for far too long - those in control to avoid making good on American’s promise that all men (and women) are all created equal - endowed with certain unalienable rights - among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

4. Standing up for healthcare for all. Not just to have insurance, but also access to healthcare that is compassionate and thorough. We should demand a healthcare system that seeks to address preventable health care strategies.

5. We are called upon to invest in our own communities and demand that those in charge invest in economic revitalization projects to provide living wages to the residents in need of jobs and opportunities.

6. If we are to have a greater impact, we must not just get people registered to vote, but we must make sure they vote in every election. We must be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem!

I pray God’s protection for traveling mercies and for all who attend to remain safe and healthy.

The work and ministry of the WMS is the perfect conduit to spread the love of Jesus to the world. Because our work is God’s love in action, God’s grace and mercy, God’s healing and restoration, and God’s empathy and respect demonstrated through humankind.

We hope that the agenda of this Executive Board will go forth in love, faith, and service, and will produce the light that the world needs to experience. And it is our prayer that the totality of the Connectional WMS is incited to action and fully equipped to challenge and conquer the negative influences of the enemy and bring about substantive and spiritual change in this world.

SPEAKERS’ BIOS

HEALTHY CONNECTIONS PANELIST Kenya Eddings, MPH, CWWS is the eighth Executive Director of Arkansas Minority Health Commission. The Little Rock native holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Tuskegee University and Master of Public Health degree from Tulane University School of Public Health.

Prior to joining AMHC, Eddings served as the Worksite Wellness Director for the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH). In this role, she helped state agencies, nonprofits, and for-profit businesses establish and maintain wellness programs. A portion of her duties included training the aforementioned on the importance of lactation accommodations in the workplace and in the public.

Eddings also previously worked as a Research Scientist for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for nearly 20 years. A published author with dozens of peer-reviewed articles to her credit, a few of her research interests have included behavioral weight loss and maintenance in AfricanAmerican women, stress management and its relationship to obesity, as well as access to healthy food.

Dr. William Greenfield is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Medical Director for Family Health at the Arkansas Department of Health. He received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Auburn University, a Doctor of Medicine from Meharry Medical College, and completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. His career interests and activities have included research toward development of a therapeutic HPV vaccine, implementation of tele colposcopy services for the Arkansas Department of Health, and leading efforts for the reduction of Maternal Mortality, within the state of Arkansas, and as chair of the Arkansas Maternal Mortality Review Committee. Dr. Greenfield is a resolute professional focused on improving healthcare through clinical excellence, education, advocacy, and innovation.

Dr. Zelda West Johnson is Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has practiced as a Family Practice Physician in Virginia for twenty-seven years.

She serves as the Second Episcopal District (SED) Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) Health and Wellness Coordinator for the Connectional WMS Health Commission. She is the local President of the Delia C. Jackson WMS at Third Street Bethel A.M.E. Church in Richmond, Virginia. Her special interests include Women’s Health, Autism, Addiction Medicine, and Preventive Medicine.

Dr. Johnson attended Hampton University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. Dr. Johnson earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine at Baltimore. She completed her residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia (VCU/MCV) Blackstone Family Practice Residency Program in Blackstone, Virginia.

Dr. Johnson has been married to Judge Randall G. Johnson, Jr. for twenty-eight years and together they organized the Married Couple’s and Personal Finance Ministries at their church. They are the proud parents of three adult children - twin daughters, Vanessa and Marissa.

LEADERSHIFT PRESENTER Rev. Lisa Williamson is an itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

She is the current pastor of Calvary Fellowship A.M.E. Church in Brooklyn, NY, becoming its first female pastor in the church’s 87-year history.

Dr. Williamson was a solo practicing pediatrician for 18 years, serving the Southeast Queens, NY community where she grew up. As a pediatrician, Dr. Williamson specialized in the healthcare of children in NYC’s foster care system and teenage mothers with infants. She worked closely with the Administration for Children’s Services, advocating for the rights of disenfranchised children and teenagers. Dr. Williamson is a Program Manager for the Women’s Opportunity Rehabilitation Center, which is an alternative to incarceration program for women and young people who are justice and detention involved. She conducts weekly Interactive Journaling sessions at the Nassau County Correctional Facility for women with alcohol and substance use histories. She is a certified trauma informed care instructor. Dr. Williamson is a proficient grant writer having obtained over 6 million dollars in grant funding to support various not-for-profit organizations.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Williamson became a supervisor for the NYC Contact Tracing Initiative and is currently serving on the International Health Commission of the AME Church’s COVID -19 task force. She conducts virtual/onsite presentations updating vulnerable communities about healthcare and health access.

Dr. Williamson served 12 years as the New York Annual Conference Health Commissioner, emphasizing, and highlighting the self-care of God’s servants and leaders. Currently, she serves as the Health Commissioner of the First Episcopal District of the AME Church. She is the Self Care instructor at the NY Conference AME Ministerial Institute. She serves the church on the Ministerial Efficiency Committee, Board of Examiners, and the Ministerial Alliance of NY and Vicinity.

Dr. Williamson obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Cornell University, a Master of Public Health from New York University, a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, a Master of Divinity Degree from New Brunswick Theological Seminary, and a Master of Sacred Theology from Drew University.

Dr. Williamson is a mother of two children. Dr. Williamson is first and foremost a woman called of God to teach and preach the liberating Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her ministry is guided by the words of Dr. Luke, “When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.”
