Natalie is a Chartered Accountant from Vereeniging who for the past four years has lived and worked in London. She is currently working as a senior manager at Deloitte in London. She is a director of the Nedbank Charity Golf Day, the largest charity golf day in Europe. Sponsors of the golf day include SABMiller, Amex, Old Mutual and SAICA. FW de Klerk is the patron of the day. Die hare het gewaai by dié gemeente
VEREENIGING. – Die Lux Deo-gemeente Arconpark- en Sonlandparksentrum in Vereeniging het onlangs ‘n fondsinsameling gehou en die hare het behoorlik gewaai. Ten aanskoue van lidmate, besoekers en hulle dankbare eggenote, kon die leraars, dss. Bok Jansen van Rensburg, Jollie Theron en jeugwerker, Gert van Zyl, verlos word van hulle wollerige voorkoms. ’n Doelwit
is gestel vir die gemeente se 10de-maand fondsinsameling wat gestrek het van 1 Oktober 2014 tot 28 Februarie. Die leraars het onderneem om vir die volle tydperk, of tot die doelwit bereik is, hulle hare en baarde te laat groei. Lidmate en lede van die publiek het fluks bygedra tot die fonds en op 8 Februarie, ’n volle 20 dae voor die afsluitingsdatum, is die doelwit bereik.

Die leraars bedank graag die gemeente en die publiek vir hulle betrokkenheid en bydraes vir die projek. Die lidmate bedank op hul beurt weer die leraars vir hulle opoffering om gedurende een van die warmste somers vas te byt met die projek.

Kerk maak grafte skoon
23yearold Ntsiki Mkhize from Kliprivier Midvaal garnered a spot in the top three of this Year’s Miss SA Pageant as Second Princess.

MEYERTON. - Goeie dade word nie elke dag raakgesien of waardeer nie. Soms doen mens ook nie iets om erkenning daarvoor te kry nie, maar bloot uit belangstelling en omgee. Mnr. Penny Goosen, lid van die Nuwe Apostoliese Kerk (NAK) in Meyerton het onlangs sy werkers en mede-gemeentelede ingespan om die grafte skoon te maak van diegene wat op 28 Januarie 1970 in die Henley-on-Klip busramp dood is. Dié busramp het skokgolwe oor die land gestuur toe ’n trein die skoolbus wat op die treinspoor gaan staan het, getref het. 23 Leerlinge van Hoërskool Dr. Malan is dood en 16 leerlinge beseer. Dit is vanjaar 45 jaar na die tragedie. Die geskrewe gedeeltes op die meeste van die grafte is onduidelik en lede van die NAK sal graag in die toekoms aandag daaraan wil gee. Daar is ook blomme op die grafte gesit.

VEREENIGING. - The Vereeniging police have arrested a 23-year-old coloured male for possesion of stolen property in the form of a vehicle, cigarretes with an estimated value
of R860 000 and possession of an unlicenced firearm. According to Vereeniging Police Spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda, the culprit was arrested by the Community Policing Forum (CPF) in Roshnee: “Officers on patrol saw a group of CPF members standing in the group and when they approached them they were told they had arrested a suspect who was allegedly in possession of stolen property.” Reports Funda: “The suspect is currently in custody. During our investigations, it was discovered that the panel van found in the culprit’s possession is connected to a case of ve-

KLIPRIVIER. - 23-year-old Ntsiki Mkhize from Kliprivier in Midvaal has proven beyond reasonable doubt that she is not just a pretty face. Mkhize came out on top when she was crowned Second Princess in the 2015 Miss SA competition, putting her at the forefront of most of her competitors. “I did not hear my name being called out. I just saw how people around me reacted and thought, `Oh, that should be me. It was such a surreal moment.” Mkhize states that she feels she has triumphed as she has entered the competition three times. “This has been such an incredible journey and I really am proud of myself for what I have achieved.” Mkhize’s journey has only just begun. As one of the founders of ‘The Song Foundation’ which deals with the development of young girls around the Vaal area, Mkhize states that she looks forward to growing the project along with her co-founders. “We are currently looking for mentors who come from the same backgrounds as these girls. We want the girls to be able to relate and to also see that your background does not necessarily determine your future.” Mkhize says she will continue working with them to develop their businesses because entrepreneurship is very close to her heart. “I believe that we can change the current socio-economic status with entrepreneurship.” Democratic Alliance (DA) MPL Mike Moriarty says, “I am certain that, as the knockout stages commence, residents of Midvaal were on the edges of their seats rooting for Ntsiki. To be crowned one of South Africa’s three brightest and fairest young women is a phenomenal achievement, and the DA believes that this is only the start of what is going to be Ntsiki’s wonderful career. All residents of Midvaal are extremely proud of your achievement,” Moriarty concluded.

Six people were arrested for shoplifting, eight for possession of dagga and three for possession of CAT with a street value of R650.00, six for drunk driving and four for theft. On Thursday, detective services had a provincial operation on most wanted suspects of which 12 cases were resolved. “The use of and dealing in drugs has come to a point people find intoleerant. This is informed by the information given to Police by members of the community, which yielded good results,” Funda concluded.

VEREENIGING. - Vereeniging SAPS spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda has thanked the community for providing Police with information that led to an arrest. Funda urges the community to provide Police with crime-related information and promises to keep sources of information anonymous. “On Sunday information was given. Subsequently an African woman was arrested for dealing drugs at the old hospital in Van Riebeeck street,” says Funda. At the scene Police found 13 packets of crystal meth and 40 mandrax tablets. In another case, 20 liquor outlets were visited to verify compliance with the Gauteng Liquor Act. According to Funda,

VANDERBIJLPARK. - A local dealer lost almost a million rand after a client purchased two luxury vehicles with a fraudulent identity document and drivers license. The incidents occurred on January 1 and June 30 last year at a local car dealer in Vanderbijlpark. Vehicles purchased totalled R919 585. The suspect used a fraudulent identity book on two occasions to obtain credit so he could buy motor vehicles. The suspect was successful in these two incidents. It is alleged that the suspect registered wrong particulars and gave false addresses so he could buy the cars. He bought the cars from the same dealer and is still using the same documents. The fraud was discovered by the bank to which he applied for finance to purchase the two cars a BMW and a Jaquar. The suspect cannot be traced and is still at large. The bank reported him to the Vanderbijlpark SAPS for further investigation. It is suspected that the suspect has used the wrong name and surname but the photo on the ID document and the drivers licence is his as the dealer has identified him. SEBOKENG. - The Democratic Alliance in Ward 31 recently launched its campaign against the abuse of drugs and other substances at the Lebohang Cetre in Zone 10. The campaign was launched under the theme “Drugs are everyone’s problem.” The event was attended by the community at large, including officials and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
DA Sedibeng caucus leader Dady Mollo delivered the keynote address at the event. Mollo stated the reason drugs are such a big problem in society is because they are a direct link to criminal activity. “People commit crime to feed their addictive habits and while they are under the influence of addictive substances, they often become violent and abusive. So reducing the levels of drug and alcohol abuse will go a long way towards reducing
crime.” “I have a drug problem. I don’t use drugs, but they still affect me. If you have a drug problem or know someone that needs help, please contact SANCA for help of visit our local Centre in Zone 14 near the shopping complex.” Mollo told the community that it needed to be united in the fight against drug abuse as it is very popular in the Sebokeng area. DA members encouraged residents to re-
port known drug dealers to Police, to help drug users access treatment options and to help educate young people on the risks associated with drug usage. “The Democratic Alliance will play its part by reaching as many residents as possible through this extensive campaign. We are asking all residents of the Ward to help us fight this serious problem as part of a concerted awareness campaign,” Mollo concludes.

vir diegene wat nie elke dag ’n bord kos kan bekostig nie. Meals on Wheels is in 1964 in Oos-Londen gestig. Daar is tans 371 plekke waar kos voorberei word vir minderbevoorregtes, waarvan Vereeniging een is. Maandag tot Vrydag word ’n heerlike bord kos, wat een stysel, een proteïen en twee soorte groente insluit, voorsien. Die kos word in verskeie gebiede afgelewer, terwyl diegene in Leeuhof elke dag saam eet. Die organisasie word deur vrywilligers in die gemeenskap bestuur en is natuurlik van skenkings van die gemeenskap afhanklik. Meals on Wheels in Vereeniging se missie is om van hulp te wees vir minderbevoorregtes asook bejaardes. Buiten vir ’n warm bord kos van Maandag tot Vrydag, word daar ook in die basiese behoeftes soos klere, toiletware en skoonmaakmiddels voorsien wanneer hulle skenkings ontvang. Indien enige persoon graag ’n verskil wil maak in minderbevoorregtes se lewens kan skenkings van enige aard by die Dienssentrum in Basheestraat afgelewer word.
