Natalie nominated in prestigious competition

VEREENIGING. - A young lady who grew up in Vereeniging, Natalie Immelman, has been nominated in the Category Woman in Business of the Year in a competition presented by the SA Chamber of Commerce (UK). Natalie is a Chartered Accountant from Vereeniging who for the past four years has lived and worked in London. She is currently working as a senior manager at Deloitte in London. She is a Director of the Nedbank Charity Golf Day, the largest charity golf day in Europe. Sponsors of the golf day include SABMiller, Amex, Old Mutual and SAICA. FW de Klerk is the patron of the day. The proceeds of this event go to seven charities, including Project Thuthka (the charity that Natalie sponsors to help young South Africans obtain the prestigious CA(SA) qualification). In 2014, the golf day raised £100,000. She is the longest serving member of the SAICA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) UK Committee. This

involves the monthly organisation of continuous professional development courses, as well as social and charity events for the 2 500 South African Chartered Accountants living in the UK. Natalie served on the executive committee for the South African Chamber of Commerce in 2013. This includes the co-ordination of events to promote trade, community and investment into and out of South Africa. Ballet dancers rise to the occasion

VANDERBIJPARK. - Local dance teacher Riette Odendaal, owner of the Riette Odendaal’s Ballet Studio for the past 18 years, is very happy with the achievements of her students at the Dance Art Festival last year and believes that more top achievements are in the pipeline for them.

Apart from several individual achievements, the group numbers also did extremely well. Riette also gives Cecchetti Ballet. She also recently opened a new art studio with Franciska van der Merwe called Kunstedraai. They specialise in ballet and acting.

VEREENIGING. - Armoede, hongersnood en slegte omstandighede staar baie van ons elke dag in die gesig. Wanneer jy winkel toe gaan om ‘n paar items kruideniersware te koop besef jy nie hoe bevoorreg jy eintlik is nie. Meals on Wheels, ’n nie-winsgewende organisasie is juis daar om ’n verskil te maak in diegene se lewens wat nie elke dag ’n bord kos kan bekostig nie. Meals on Wheels is in 1964 in Oos-Londen gestig. Daar is tans 371 plekke waar kos voorberei word vir minderbevoorregtes, waarvan Vereeniging een is. Maandag tot Vrydag word ’n heerlike bord kos wat een stysel, een proteïen en twee soorte groente insluit voorsien. Die kos word in verskeie gebiede afgelewer, terwyl diegene in Leeuhof elke dag saam eet. Die organisasie word deur vrywilligers in die gemeenskap bestuur en is natuurlik van

Fraudulent identity book a problem Jannie du Plessis

VANDERBIJLPARK. - A local dealer lost almost a million rand after a client purchased two luxury vehicles with a fraudulent identity document and drivers license. The incidents occurred on January 1 and June 30 last year at a local car dealer in Vanderbijlpark. Vehicles purchased totalled R919 585. The suspect used a fraudulent identity book on two occasions to obtain credit for buying motor vehicles. The suspect was successful in those two incidents. It is alleged that the suspect registered wrong particulars and gave false addresses so he could buy the cars. He bought the cars at the same dealer and still uses the same documents. The fraud was discovered by the bank to which he applied for finance to buy the two cars - a BMW and a Jaquar. The suspect cannot be traced and is still at large. The bank reported him to the Vanderbijlpark SAPS for further investigation. It is suspected that the suspect has used the wrong name and surname but the photo on the ID document and drivers licence is

his, as the dealer has identified him. He goes by the name Abbas Muhammad. Anyone with information about the person pictured can contact investigating officer D/W/O Job Motsoeneng on (016) 910 9105 or 073 836 6222.

BOPHELONG. - ArcelorMittal recently upgraded, built a jungle gym and refurbished four classrooms to provide a better learning environment to the pupils and educators at Seeiso Primary School. The company, with the help of AMT, built a jungle gym for Grade R and One pupils. The cutting of the ribbon was conducted by Werner Venter, acting general manager ArcelorMittal Vanderbijlpark, and Raj Mandomparambil, ArcelorMittal Foundation and Community Investment manager, on March 25. The project forms part of the ArcelorMittal Foundation global solidarity holiday programme with the workers volunteering. In his key note address, Venter said the company is proud to contribute to the local community. About R400 000 has been spent on refurbishing projects including amenities to create a happy, conducive learning environment and to hosting international visitors. SASOLBURG. - “As mens al vir sestien jaar hier woon, kan dit mos net lekker wees,” aldus tannie Loy van Wyngaard, die inwoner met die langste verblyf in Van Riebeeck Tehuis vir bejaardes in Sasolburg. Die tehuis, wat eers as skoolkoshuis gedien het, is later in ‘n tehuis vir selfversorgende bejaardes omskep en bied billike akkommodasie wat drie maaltye per dag insluit. Daar is 47 dubbelk- en 34 enkelkamers, ses gesellige sitkamers en ook motorhuise en afdakke beskikbaar. Dis teetyd en inwoners kuier saam in die eetsaal en ruil stories, resepte en breipatrone uit.

Op die stoep sit ‘n paar die buitelug en geniet en in die lapa word daar kaart gespeel. Hier onder die grasdak word heerlik gekuier en wanneer die jaarlikse basaar gehou word, wemel dit hier van gaste en word lekker eetgoed fluks verkoop. In die goed-toegeruste en netjiese kombuis vind ons die kok en haar helpers besig om pasteitjies reg te kry vir die oond. Hulle glimlag van oor tot oor en dis sommer ‘n gelukkige klompie wat hier sorg vir al die lekker maaltye. Die haarsalon is goed toegerus vir daardie netjiese kapsels vir ‘n spesiale geleentheid, of sommer net vir die lekker. Hier raak mens nooit verveeld, nie want speletjies
