As we celebrate the closing of this fiscal year, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for the incredible achievements of our Parks and Recreation Department and the vibrant community we cherish. Staying active and connecting with the beauty of our parks are vital to our well-being, and I am thrilled to share the significant advancements we've made this year to enhance our facilities and programs.

This year marked major progress, starting with the successful cleanup of Liberty Lagoon, now featuring a durable new border that will stand the test of time for at least 30 years! Liberty Pool has also received a facelift with a resurfaced, freshly painted slide, and I’m excited to announce that this spring, we’ll be painting the pool and adding two brand-new diving boards. We're committed to keeping Liberty Pool operational until the opening of our new Aquatic Facility, a project we are eager to bring to life while ensuring it meets our community’s needs and aspirations.

Vital improvements have also been made to Convention Hall, where we’ve installed a new boiler system to guarantee comfort during our events all year long. We’re delighted to have the beloved Liberty Land Train back in action, spreading joy throughout our community. Additionally, we've renovated our historic Liberty Stadium to preserve it as a treasured resource for future generations.

This fall, we proudly opened six new pickleball courts in Liberty Park, highlighting our dedication to offering diverse recreational opportunities. We've also completed essential repairs on the lagoons at Clover Dell, further enriching our beautiful parklands.

Looking forward, I'm excited to announce that Memory Lanes will open in November 2026, revitalizing bowling in Sedalia and expanding our recreational offerings for everyone!

As we reflect on our successes, I also need to share an important update regarding the Heckart Community Center. Starting April 1st, there will be a fee increase. When we approached voters in 2019, the minimum wage was $8.60, and it has now risen to $15.00. This adjustment is essential to cover operational costs and ensure we can maintain the quality services our community deserves.

There’s so much to look forward to in the upcoming fiscal year, and I can't wait to see you at the Heckart Community Center and enjoying our parks. Thank you for your unwavering support and active participation in our community programs. Together, we can continue to keep our community vibrant and engaged!

In 1948, The Heckart Family made their home here in Sedalia, established their family business, The Heckart Funeral Home, and became pillars of the community. They believed their success as a family business was in large part because the community trusted in them and supported them. Because of the support of the community, it was their philosophy that they in return give back to those that had supported them for so many years Sue carried on the family’s motto of “We Care, We Share, We Love.” Being a strong business woman, community leader, and philanthropist, Sue wanted nothing more than to bring her parents’ dream of a community center to the people of Sedalia.
