Dear Readers, Greetings from SecurityLink India!

As recently confirmed by Google, many of the Google Photos users would have a scary stretch of 21 to 25 November 2019 when their private data leaked and were intermingled with those of one another during downloads. Google has been candid enough to admit the lapse on their part and claimed to have fixed it. The company has accepted that the private photos and videos of some Google Photos users were incorrectly exported to other people’s accounts and thereby exchanged amongst them. The company offered apology for the slip and the consequent inconvenience caused to the users, and attributed the mix-up to a technical bug in the ‘Takeout’ service that allows users to download their data.

Although, as often, the issue appears to have ceased, or will slow down with time with the given expression of regret but it once again raises concerns and invokes more elaborate and stronger debates and deliberations by the stakeholders including law making and enforcing agencies on the subject of privacy and data breach to reach to fool proof solutions. Mere apology and further excuse of technical bug are not the ways out. It is but the matter of the services provided by a company of the stature of Googles. Though the company cited that only 0.01% users were affected by the glitch, but the percentage amounts to a huge number of people as Google Photos has 1 billion registered users. The ramifications of the given malfunction on the victims are not yet out in public – rather they should also not as it is the matter of people’s privacy which is their fundamental right – but they are disastrous and their gravity can very well be perceived by simple thoughts. Web services are the backbone of today’s life, and data is the new oil. Any seepage and/ or pilferage of data therefore will cause devastating impact on one’s social and economic build.

Rapid digitization and digitalization and subsequent mandatory dependence on technology will make the life havoc if the technologies are not maintained and regulated well. This is high time to adopt the principle of ‘Security First and the Business of Security Foremost,’ and contribute our true bit to enable a safe and secure society in exactitude.

The Union Budget 2020 is being widely hailed including by security industry. Beyond personal tax benefits which have been highly applauded by the mass, Nirmala Sitaraman, the Finance Minister of India made a reassuring statement towards Make in India call, and said that the mission started reaping dividends. Custom duties have been raised in view of further pushing Make in India drive. Besides, with a target to reaching the USD3 trillion figures by the end of this fiscal year, the Budget 2020 unveils a series of far-reaching reforms. It focuses to strengthen Indian economy and hence brings a mix of short-, medium- and long-term measures. The budget looks to aim at long term commitments towards Make in India, Digital India, and Mission Smart Cities etc.

It also provisions for infrastructural development, self-employment and entrepreneurship, and wide technological deployments including those of AI, IoT etc. The FM’s announcement of seamless delivery of digital services makes a part of the next wave of digital revolution. AI, ML, Analytics, IoT, Robotics are to make giant inroads in the country, and so the business thereof. Over all, the budget is growth oriented and a win-win for the security industry at large.

The reason we are keen on understanding trends is because we want to know how they will affect our current business and how we should act now to avoid being outdated

ignificant changes have shaped security industry during the last decade, and more exciting innovations should be expected in 2020s. Emerging technologies and applications such as multi-dimensional perception, UHD, low light imaging, artificial intelligence and cloud technology etc. open new possibilities for the security industry. At the same time, millions of cameras and other security devices are being connected into networks, making the security industry a very important part of the future IoT world.

We at Hikvision would like to share our thoughts on a few key trends that will affect security industry in 2020, and probably even longer into the future.

1. Multi-dimensional perception

F

or security cameras, image capturing simulates our sense of sight, extending the power of people’s ‘eyes.’

But what if security cameras could use other kinds of ‘senses,’ like ‘hearing’, ‘smelling,’ or even detections that are beyond visual range, to identify and respond to incidents?

For example, video cameras integrated with centimeter and millimeter wave radars are becoming popular in object 34

detection. With deep integration of radar and video, a multi-dimensional camera extends perception beyond visual range to improve the detection of objects and movement tracking – up to a distance of 100 meters and in any weather.

Another approach is the integrated automobile horn-detection camera. Equipped with sonar arrays, this camera can precisely detect and locate the source of a vehicle’s horn, while identifying the vehicle and generating photos and videos of the event as evidence. This ability can help reduce noise pollution on roadways and in communities with rules against the unnecessary use of horns.

More ‘senses,’ like smoke detection, heat detection, or even pressure detection, can be embedded in cameras to precisely monitor and report events or incidents.

The multi-dimensional perception trend will powerfully shape security systems and endow them with more capabilities to create safety in the near future.

2. Multi-intelligence cameras

years, but most AI-powered security cameras can only run a single algorithm because of the limitation of computing power, which means they can incorporate only one intelligent function at a time – counting people or counting cars, for example.

Now the computing power of security cameras has been enhanced greatly with the increased performance of AI chips.

Multi-intelligence technology will be the trend for the next generation of AI-empowered cameras as several intelligent tasks will be accomplished by one camera.

Let us use vehicle intersections as an example. In many cities you can see ten or more cameras installed at intersections to detect traffic flow, to identify violations, to detect vehicle types and license plate numbers, to protect sidewalks, and so on. But now, with multi-intelligence cameras, 2 or 3 cameras are enough for an intersection. Since fewer cameras will be equipped for one application scenario, the cost of equipment, installation, and maintenance and management will also be reduced.

Moreover, scenario-defined cameras will become common as manufacturers can insert different algorithms into security cameras according to specific application scenarios, allowing customers to choose customized functions for their needs.

3. Proactive & comprehensive security systems

erely reactive CCTV systems will no longer meet the demands of security operations teams as they are often looking for new opportunities to enhance their operational efficiency. Many customers are now asking for proactive and comprehensive security systems that combine

CCTV monitoring, alarm systems, access control, and even fire protection.

With the development of AI technology, monitoring processes of CCTV systems are becoming more automated by analyzing live and recorded video to detect, classify, and track predefined objects. These processes can be especially effective in proactively identifying events as they happen and extracting information instantly from recorded video.

Meanwhile, proactive and intelligent video analysis enables deployment of valuable comprehensive security systems and improves the return on investment for integration of CCTV and non-CCTV systems. For example, now, when a camera detects an incident, a linkage will trigger the alarm system automatically, telling security personnel to check the surveillance camera live feed. Conversely, when alarm, access control or fire protection systems report an incident, the CCTV system will be activated to verify what actually happened.

Digital transformation to increase productivity is a business imperative for most organizations nowadays, and proactive and comprehensive security systems will be the direction for security operations to increase their efficiency and value.

4. Ultra-high definition

eople want to see more and with more clarity; thus pursuing ever higher image resolution has been a key driving force in the development of security industry technology.

With greater bandwidth and lower latency transmission technology, the smooth transmission of UHD images is becoming possible, and widespread adoption of 4K and 8K resolution cameras will meet real opportunities.

Furthermore, continuously optimized encoding technology – which vastly decreases the bitrate of video – is another stimulus for UHD applications in the security industry. As the bitrate of recorded footage is greatly reduced, bandwidth and storage costs are reduced as well.

5. Visibility: Any time & any condition

ost security incidents happen at night, but images and footage from conventional security cameras may easily lose colors and critical details in ultra-low light environments. Low light imaging technologies have become more and more popular in the security industry, enhancing the visibility of objects for identifying details at any time and in any condition.

Another important innovation is thermal imaging, which can detect the heat information of any object with a temperature above absolute zero. Taking advantage of heat zone imaging, thermal imaging technology allows cameras to ‘see’ in low-visibility conditions such as fog, smog, rain and snow, and even at night. Thermal cameras have huge potentials in various applications like perimeter defense, fire detection and temperature measurement.

6. Moving to the cloud

A

s we mentioned at the beginning, more security devices including cameras are being connected over the Internet, making them parts of the IoT world. Thus, ‘moving to the cloud’ has been a focus for the security industry – especially for video surveillance operations. Why are people enthusiastic about the cloud? It’s because cloud services can bring vast benefits in efficiency, flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and security.

Among security operations, Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS) has been a major trend in the security industry. It is an ideal choice for small and medium-sized businesses to move their video-based security systems to the cloud. It is a technology to host the hardware and soft36

We’ve seen fragmentation when it comes to local laws, regulations and privacy. In the private sector, business schools, strategy heads and activist investors preach to divest anything that’s not a core competency but in a fragmented world, with digital giants lurking around the corner, do we need to think different? For regulations, business models, and data – which increasingly are the same thing – we can turn a fragmenting landscape into an opportunity. But analysis isn’t enough. We need synthesis and analysis to connect distributed data to the analytic supply chain – with catalogues as the connective tissue. The technology is there today but it also needs to be followed by the right processes and people.

Synthesis and analysis are critical to make use of pervasive data and facilitate the evolution towards what we call ‘laying the data mosaic.’

Below is a curated subset of the top 5 trends we see being most important in the coming year, a full version of which we will publish in January 2020.

1. Big data is just data: Next up – ‘wide data’ ig Data is a relative term, and a moving target. One way to define big data is if it’s beyond what you can achieve with your current technology.

If you need to replace, or significantly invest in extra infrastructure to handle data amounts, then you have a big data challenge. With infinitely scalable cloud storage, that shortcoming is gone. It’s easier now than ever to do in-database indexing and analytics, and we have tools to make sure data can be moved to the right place. The mysticism of data is gone – consolidation and the rapid demise of Hadoop distributors in 2019 is a signal of this shift.

The next focus area will be very distributed, or ‘wide data.’ Data formats are becoming more varied and fragmented, and as a result different types of databases suitable for different flavors of data have more than doubled – from 162 in 2013, to 342 in 2019. Combinations of wide data ‘eat big data for breakfast’ and those companies that can achieve synthesis of these fragmented and varied data sources will gain an advantage.

That same agility hasn’t happened on the data management side – until now. ‘DataOps’ has come onto the scene as an automated, process-oriented methodology aimed at improving the quality and reducing the cycle time of data management for analytics. It focuses on continuous delivery and does this by leveraging on-demand IT resources and automating test and deployment of data. Technology like real-time data integration, change data capture (CDC) and streaming data pipelines are the enablers. Through DataOps, 80% of core data can be delivered in a systematic way to business users, with self-service data preparation as a standalone area needed in fewer situations. With DataOps on the operational side, and analytic self-service on the business user side, fluidity across the whole information value chain is achieved, connecting synthesis with analysis.

emand for data catalogues is soaring as organizations continue to struggle with finding, inventorying and synthesizing vastly distributed and diverse data assets. In 2020, we’ll see more AI infused metadata catalogues that will help shift this gargantuan task from manual and passive to active, adaptive and changing. This will be the connective tissue and governance for the agility that DataOps and self-service analytics provides. Active metadata catalogues also include information personalization, which is an essential component for relevant insights generation and tailoring content. But for this to happen, a catalogue also needs to work not just ‘inside’ one analytical tool, but incorporating the fragmented estate of tools that most organizations have.

Data Literacy as a Service onnecting synthesis and analysis to form an inclusive system will help drive data usage, but no data and analytic technology or process in the world can function if people aren’t on board. Dropping tools on users and hoping for the best is no longer enough. A critical component for overcoming industry standard 35% analytics adoption rates is to help people become confident in reading, working with, analyzing and communicating with data. In 2020, companies expect data literacy to

scale, and want to partner with vendors on this journey. This is achieved through a combined software, education and support partnership-as-a-service with outcomes in mind. The goal could be to drive adoption to 100%, helping combine DataOps with self-service analytics, or to make data part of every decision. For this to be effective, one needs to self-diagnose where the organization is and where it wants to get to, and then symbiotically work out how those outcomes can be achieved.

5. ‘Shazaming’ Data, and Computer/ Human Interactions he effects of data analysis on vast amounts of data have now reached a tipping point, bringing us landmark achievements. We all know Shazam, the famous musical service where you can record sound and get info about the identified song. More recently, this has been expanded to more use cases such as clothes where you shop simply by analyzing a photo, and identifying plants or animals. In 2020, we’ll see more use-cases for ‘shazaming’ data in the enterprise e.g., pointing to a data source and getting telemetry such as where it comes from, who is using it, what the data quality is, and how much of data has changed today. Algorithms will help analytic systems fingerprint the data, find anomalies and insights, and suggest new data that should be analyzed with it. This will make data and analytics leaner and enable us to consume the right data at the right time.

We will see this combined with breakthroughs in interacting with data–going beyond search, dashboards and visualization. Increasingly we’ll be able to interact by sensors through movements and expressions, and even with the mind. Facebook’s recent buy of CTRL Labs – a mind reading wristband, and Elon Musk’s Neuralink project, are early signals of what’s to come. In 2020, some of these breakthrough innovations will begin to change the experience of how we interact with data. This holds great human benefits for all, but can also be used for ill, and must be used responsibly.

Turn fragmentation to your advantage, by connecting synthesis and analysis – to form a dynamic system. DataOps and Self Service will be the process and method. Data literacy and ethics will guide people to do the right thing. Innovative technologies powered by AI will facilitate throughout the entire chain to enhance and accelerate data use. These trends form tiles for laying a data mosaic in a complex fragmented world, making the use of data pervasive across the enterprise and ushering us into the next phase of success in the digital age.

very year about this time, I write a review looking at how our customers are using our software and the general direction of the security industry to note any new trends in the security market.

The last twelve months have been our best year ever and we are truly appreciative of the clients who have chosen CNL. With record sales, the company has increased staff (mainly technical) and office facilities to meet this increased demand. We added key new hires to our senior management team and that is showing immediate results, particularly product, marketing and PMO. I am also delighted to see the talented people who are growing in our expanding teams.

What our customers have taught us in 2019

rowing Complexity: PSIM projects are growing in size and complexity. We delivered even larger multi-sited and more complex solutions than ever before. We now have PSIM solutions dealing with even larger numbers of applications and devices that require tighter orchestration to safeguard increasing numbers of facilities.

Digital transformation: The digitalization of control rooms continues unabated; most of our clients needed to migrate from outdated control room technologies to new, more open digitalized command centers. They wanted new applications, upgraded technologies and customized operations, while phasing out analog sub-systems. PSIM soft44

ware allows them to program this change in a timely and cost-effective way.

Open platform still the key: Most of our clients have multiple video management software (VMS) from different vendors and have no desire to move to a single platform for video. They like the freedom to choose that comes with an open PSIM platform.

2019 was a great year for security integration 019 was an interesting year for PSIM companies that saw a lot of M&A activity. Qognify acquired ONSSI (who had acquired SeeTec), making it a significant vendor in the advanced VMS market. IndigoVision acquired Agora, a Portuguese PSIM vendor, to add significantly increased intelligence to their VMS offering.

On the whole we are seeing VMS vendors adding more and more integration capabilities to their software, effectively making them entry level integration platforms. We don’t see these as competitors at the higher end of the security integration market.

The route to market is changing slowly for PSIM vendors, but significantly. CNL works with full-service partners, integration partners and directly with end-users. All options can work equally well; while CNL can be the integration specialist, our partners are responsible for the sub-systems hardware and software.

Super users will set the agenda for 2020 e expect to see the rise and rise of the super user. We have noted previously that many end users are driving the segment to reach higher ambitions and we continue to see this trend. Whether this is aggregating the sub-systems, using PSIM to manage credentials for multiple access control systems, orchestrate perimeter detection with tracking Lidar, we see the super users as the force that drives the industry. There are consultants, particularly in regulated industries who are specifying PSIM, but we are now seeing super users in corporates who have goals and ambitions that even stretch our enterprise platform.

Data integration will gain momentum in 2020

D

ata integration within security is gaining further momentum. In the past, the integrations were mainly about cameras, doors and intrusion devices, but now, data analytics and point cloud technologies make accurate people and asset tracking possible and with it the need for orchestration across multiple complex sub-systems with communications and collaboration embedded. Make no mistake, lower cost radar and lidar is changing the perimeter and high security markets for good. But, this kind of tracking technology needs orchestration of other technologies like cameras, ground sensors, intercoms, radios and more. That orchestration technology is exactly what PSIM solutions do best, and where PSIM and VMS product differentiation will grow wider.

Enterprise Risk Management and PSIM

W

e have questioned whether PSIM is just or even a security product at all. Of course, many use it as a security aggregation platform, but in recent months, we have been working with enterprise risk management (ERM) partners and they fully understand the power and value of PSIM. For them, the high cost and implementation times are viewed as a minor issue compared to the value it offers to clients through a successful PSIM implementation oriented around enterprise risk management. They have been excited by the breadth of our integration capability, the configurability of our platform and implementation of highly complex operational workflows. PSIM is a subset of enterprise risk management, which means PSIM is of equal interest in the boardroom and the security operations center.

Greater vendor collaboration in 2020

nother market trend is vendor collaboration, showing how their technologies and solutions work together.

CNL collaborated with two partners at ISC West; Bowler Pons and Cepton. Bowler Pons showcased how they could make complex procedures simple through physical demonstrations of multiple sets of high security gates, security facilities, security guards, both remotely managed or manned. Cepton demonstrated the latest in Lidar technologies utilizing edge computing to provide real-time detection, tracking and classification. We also are part of a consortium showing inter-operability between manufacturers, a brilliant initiative started by TBS and Nedap, who were joined by Milestone Systems, Axis 46

Outlook for PSIM in 2020 and beyond

A

nalyst growth predictions seem to have become more realistic, but still point to 25%+ CAGR for the PSIM industry. Although CNL is growing faster than this, as are some of the other vendors, the market remains a specialist one. With the advancement of machine learning, security automation, converged digital and physical technologies and tougher compliance needs, we will see global integrators with specialist IT and data skills working on progressive risk solutions that incorporate security needs. PSIM growth will continue in the coming years, but the solutions will need to evolve faster to meet super user ambitions.

ould you remember when you saw a drone the last time – hopefully in a wedding! As the latest fad, grand weddings suddenly appear incomplete without drones doing aerial photography.

Almost everyone today is familiar with the term ‘drone,’ and everyone does likely remember the kids flying toys as the earliest airborne drones. It is becoming an increasingly popular way to refer the small (usually) helicopter-like devices that are being flown as ‘drones.’

The word ‘drone’ is used not only to cover a $15 hobby aircraft that a child flies, but also to describe a high-tech $15 million weapon used on a battlefield. Those devices don’t exactly serve the same purpose. They have different names too. Drones are also known as ‘unmanned aerial vehicles’ (UAVs). Many professionals in the industry believe that UAVs need to have autonomous flight capabilities, 48

whereas drones do not. Therefore, all drones are UAVs but not vice versa – all UAVs are not drones.

A good quality UAV system is fully autonomous, meaning it can take off, conduct the mission and land back in base all by itself. Such autonomous UAVs are now being used by law enforcement agencies for smart policing activities. Integration of UAVs with mobile applications, forensic software, secure and reliable wireless networks can help smart cities become a safe place.

The recent news has caught attention that our own police department in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzzaffarnagar district has tuned quite hi-tech and used a drone to nab thieves who were accused of looting a trader and were fled to a sugarcane field to hide themselves after committing the crime.

If India has to build new or convert its existing cities into smart cities, then the deployment of UAVs becomes crucial.

UMass Dartmouth student Amir Ehsani Zonouz has won the first mobility idea of proposing using quadcopters, a type of small-scale drone, that find free parking spots, determine the shortest path to that spot, and help guide drivers to the designated space either by the driver following the drone to the spot via a mobile app or directly through a car’s communication system.

mart villages practicing ‘precision agriculture’ are now synonymous with the use of drones. Drones are being used for crop spraying, dusting, monitoring, as well as crop insurance. Terra Drone India said it has completed the aerial survey of 4,200sq.km. of agricultural land for water resources department of the Maharashtra Krishna Valley Development Corp (MKVDC). The survey helped government officials get a clear picture of the crops sown and the type of irrigation used, allowing MKVDC to update its archaic maps in half the time of traditional surveying methods.

Drones, used for crop surveillance can drastically increase farm crop yields while minimizing the cost of labour in walking the fields. It also allows insurance claims companies to calculate the exact damage to crops or the extent of loss by viewing the same in details.

Drones help in doing crop health imaging, wherein the colour contrast technology helps one to check the true health of crops. With images and videos, one can see exactly what parts of a field are struggling with plant disease, insects or the lack of water.

With various similar instances coming to the fore, drones could be significantly used for transporting medical supplies to remote areas. In May 2019, CNN reported that the first drone delivery of a donated kidney ended with successful transplant at University of Maryland Medical Center.

In Malawi, a poor African nation with high rates of HIV, UNICEF and the Ministry of Health used drones to deliver dried blood samples from remote village health clinics to a centralized hospital for analysis.

In June 2019, in Uttarakhand, a drone carrying a blood sample was sent from a district hospital in Nandgaon to another primary health centre in Tehri in 18 minutes. A team of scientist from the Department of Aerodynamics in Bengaluru working in partnership with the Karnataka Department of Forest has come out with an idea to restore forestland by using drones and seed bombs saving a number of hours of manual intervention.

Conclusion he Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has recently indicated that India will soon take the first step towards paving the way for UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) or drones engaged in e-deliveries and air taxis. They have invited expression of interest from experts who can conduct experiments to understand ‘beyond visual line of sight’ (BVLoS) operations in the Indian environment. This indeed has been a giant step in the overall thinking of the regulator who was recently bound by a turf war between DGCA and the MHA. It was only after a sustained campaign by the Indian UAV community consisting of manufacturers, service providers and enthusiasts that the first set of regulations were enacted roughly two years ago. Much work needs to be done and a mechanism is to put in place for regulations to keep pace with the fast-changing technologies in the UAV sector. The single window system of clearance for permissions set up by the DGCA is a step in the right direction although the window is yet to become fully operational.

A report by Goldman Sachs estimates that businesses and government will spend nearly 13 billion USD on drones between 2016-20. The Indian drone market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 18% with investor activity expected to take off once the DGCA passes the new set of regulations involving drone delivery and BVLoS operations. If we look at the current scenario and the developments taking place in India and internationally, we can say with confidence that drone technology in sync with smart cities can significantly enhance the life of a nation by improving efficiencies.

Security directors at the bank wanted to replace their existing infrastructure with a more flexible solution that would eradicate system failures and have a minimal maintenance burden. They also 54

wanted to mitigate video data loss, reduce exposure to cybersecurity threats, and have a system that would be easier for operators to use, with faster footage search and retrieval.

The control room at the bank headquarters needed a complete upgrade too, to allow surveillance of remote branches to be managed centrally. The entire project had to be delivered without disruption, to ensure continued video monitoring.

Key to the phased implementation was the VMS, IDIS Solution Suite, which has full hybrid capability. This not only enabled seamless switch over from the bank’s legacy analogue cameras, going forward it will ensure cost-efficient remote firmware updates and simple system maintenance.

What they did

nitially, Swinkels Family Brewers established a cross-department project group, which developed a new security policy. With that in place, the project group identified AEOS as the system to meet its long and growing list of requirements.

Argentina Selects HID goID Technology Providing Citizens with World’s First Mobile National ID Program he government of Argentina has selected HID goID® citizen identity technology to power the country’s digital version of its mandatory National Identity Document for its Mi Argentina app.

The collaborative effort between HID, Argentina’s Ministry of Interior, Public Works and Housing through the National Registry of Persons (Renaper), and the Ministry of Modernization makes Argentina the first country in the world to offer a true national identity credential within a mobile app to its citizens. Currently, there are 47 million DNI cards in circulation and recent legislation has accorded full legal equivalence to the smartphone version of the card.

The Mi Argentina app, which houses the National Identity Document, was developed by the Ministry of Modernization and allows citizens who download the app on their mobile devices to request appointments, receive health information, and access credentials such as their drivers’ license. Powered by HID goID technology, citizens can also access their National Identity Document on a mobile device on the app while offline.

“The Government of Argentina is leading the way in bringing the convenience and security of mobile identity to its citizens,” said José D’Amico, Director of Renaper, “This innovative application is not only easy to get, but we also believe this could be the first step in digitizing identity across the government in Argentina and potentially other countries in years to come.”

Citizens with the ‘Mi Argentina’ app can initiate their request for a mobile ID by visiting a Renaper office, where their identity is verified and authenticated. Once approved, they receive an email with a code to activate their National Identity Document. In the event a smartphone is lost or stolen, credentials can be immediately revoked, safeguarding the citizen from potential identity theft.

The mobile ID is securely stored on the citizen’s smartphone, meaning it can still be accessed if the cell phone has no data plan or when connection to a network or Wi-Fi is not available. Storage on the phone brings additional security for the mobile ID ecosystem, as a channel back to the central database is never required.

Renaper issues all citizens a National Identity Document at birth and requires two mandatory renewals – between the ages of 5 and 8, and at the age of 14. Adults are required to renew it every 15 years.

Installed Cameras Worldwide Now Close to 1 Billion: What Does this Mean?

I

n 2019 the security technologies analyst team updated its research on the video surveillance camera installed base, a measure of the number of professionally installed and operational video surveillance cameras worldwide. Built on over 15 years of annual camera shipment analysis, the research estimated 655 million cameras to be in operation globally, increasing to 770 million by the end of 2019. And then, in another two years, the installed base of cameras will exceed 1 billion.

Our research also shows that between 2015 and 2018, the ratio of cameras to people rose in every region of the video surveillance market. Below are the five most surveilled regions in 2018, along with their ratio of installed video surveillance cameras to the population.

1. China: 1-to-4.1, with 350 million professionally installed video surveillance cameras.

2. United States: 1-to-4.6, with 70 million professionally installed video surveillance cameras.

3. Taiwan: 1-to-5.5.

4. United Kingdom: 1-to-6.5.

5. Singapore: 1-to-7.1.

It was also in 2018 when the installed base of network cameras surpassed that of analog and HD CCTV cameras despite continuing growth of the latter in some regions.

Overall, growth drivers vary for the installed base in each region. In Brazil and India, average camera prices are typically lower, and a higher replacement rate is in place.

Moreover, the services of installers and integrators cost less, making the replacement of a faulty product not as cost-prohibitive. In Europe and North America, however, pricing is at a premium, and the market values product reliability.

All regions included in this research posted growth since last measured in 2014. The largest increases in regional installed base were in China, the United States, and the emerging markets of Brazil, India, and Southeast Asia.

Growth is being driven by long-standing trends including the shift from analog to network equipment, increased government funding, and rising price competition as security cameras become more affordable to end-users. Also helping raise consumer awareness of video surveillance is the increased adoption of technologies – examples include wide dynamic range, low-light performance and higher resolution – that help improve image quality. Adoption of video analytics will likewise have a huge potential to open up the installed base of cameras to many more uses beyond security alone.

What, then, does the larger installed base of cameras mean for the industry? As the installed base of cameras expands, there will be two key opportunities in the next few years for video surveillance vendors.

VSaaS

V

ideo Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS) is a solution in which a customer pays on a recurring basis for cloud-connected video surveillance equipment. Video surveillance data can be stored either on-site where the security camera is located, or off-site out of the main location.

In the past, VSaaS opportunities may have been limited not only by bandwidth and IT expertise but also by the size of the potential pool of subscribers. But with a larger installed base to draw from today, VSaaS vendors can scale their business and monthly revenue accordingly. A growing installed base also means a greater pool of VSaaS subscribers, similar to models used by the likes of Netflix and Spotify that are designed to scale based on an increase in the number of users.

Video analytics n increasing number of installed cameras makes it more likely that an incident or activity will be captured by a camera. But a growing installed base also means more video to review, and search-based analytics platforms will become increasingly more important and necessary to gain

Search-based analytics platforms create a metadata stream in parallel with the video stream, with the metadata stream acting like an index or a list of contents. In an event, key information such as size, color, object type, speed, event time, and duration are stored in the metadata stream, but a search for each variable can be performed independent of the video. It becomes possible, then, to search a video for

increasingly very specific criteria. In a police investigation, such a capability has the potential to save hundreds of hours of time for law enforcement.

Searchable analytics are, therefore, penetrating markets such as city surveillance, which historically did video searches manually. Applicable to any vertical, these capabilities mean that searching video can become more efficient, potentially saving end-users both time and money, despite the vastly increased number of cameras becoming available for searching.

In Video Surveillance Manufacturing, a Major Shift

N

ovember 2019 marked the 12th straight month of decline in exports from China to the United States.

The decline is part of the fallout from the complex economic and trade disputes between the two countries, which some may view is symbolic of a wider issue in Chinese manufacturing. This view posits that China is no longer as competitive as it once was in the world of lowcost electronics manufacturing, and that cheaper manufacturing and labor costs could be found elsewhere in the world today.

Other factors have added to the difficulties of doing business in China. For instance, US video surveillance brands that employ Chinese vendors as original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) must not do business with any entity blacklisted by the US Bureau of Industry and Security and deemed to be acting contrary to US foreign policy interests.

For these and other reasons, vendors are moving the production of goods that are bound for the United States, the world’s largest economy, to new locations outside of China. The video surveillance industry is no exception to these trends, and many players have already left China or are seriously considering an exit strategy. Minimizing manufacturing costs are critical when the global average price of a 66

network camera has fallen from almost $500 in 2010 to less than $100 in 2019.

Apart from mainland China, major centers of production for video surveillance equipment exist at present in Taiwan, South Korea, and in Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam and Thailand. There is also production in the United States, as vendors use the ‘Made in America’ slogan a selling point addressing this market.

India has also emerged as a growing center of production for video surveillance equipment, the development of manufacturing plants initially meant to fulfill demand in the domestic Indian video surveillance market alone. In the future – and forming part of the New Delhi government’s ‘Make in India’ strategy – increasing amounts of video surveillance equipment may well be manufactured in India for export to other markets. If this takes place, India will be competing with other emerging Asian manufacturing hubs such as Vietnam, a country also offering lower manufacturing costs than China. If the Indian government is able to entice into the country semiconductor fabrication – a key area of expertise in the transfer of technology – its strategy would count as a major achievement.

5G to Turbocharge Video for the Security Industry 020 will be significant in the adoption of 5G technology.

At the end of 2019, more than 50 commercial networks in 27 countries were operational, according to the Global mobile Supplier Association (GSA).

China, one of the technology’s largest potential markets, officially launched commercialized 5G in November.

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) pointed to more than 130,000 5G base stations as being operational at the end of 2019, while the country’s ‘big three’ telecom providers – China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom – unveiled early 5G data plans for the public. While the 5G plans from the Chinese carriers are costlier than those that they offered for 4G, the price per gigabyte is lower in the 5G plans.

The rapid 5G developments in China are helping to drive the potential for adoption of 5G technologies in the video surveillance industry, where China is home to the largest market as well as to some of the largest video surveillance companies.

5G provides three main enablers that extend the mobile broadband value proposition into new areas – Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC), and Massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC). Of these, eMBB offers opportunities for enhancing and expanding the video surveillance space.

To this end, 5G eMBB is more suited to video applications than previous generation technologies, as it is more likely to be capable of coping with the high-bandwidth requirements of streaming video surveillance footage. Initial adoption or product use cases of 5G in video surveillance

may provide connectivity for temporary or mobile video surveillance installations like construction sites, concerts, and exhibitions, where surveillance equipment is brought in and utilized for the duration of an event since wired connectivity can be intrusive and expensive.

The seminal 5G white paper published in 2015 by the NGMN Alliance called for data rates supporting 25 Mbps on uplink connections. With an uplink performance that exceeds that from previous-generation technology, 5G for surveillance could potentially cope with the higher-resolution cameras that are increasingly common in the market. Providing wide-area surveillance via ultra-high resolution streaming (4K and above) may even be possible over 5G eMBB. More cost-effective advanced camera chipsets such as application-specific system-on-chips (SoCs) are expected to aid in the distribution of AI-enabled video analytics workload from a central server or datacenter to a more distributed cloud-edge-endpoint approach that may include camera-hosted AI engines. The lower latency of 5G can significantly enhance responsiveness through the cloud to the endpoint.

Public safety agencies can look forward to increased operational capabilities once ubiquitous 5G coverage is available. With larger data transport pipes enabled by 5G operation in high-capacity spectrum bands, agencies can expand the use of video to enhance on-the-ground situational awareness during incident responses. As law enforcement or fire service missions take shape, 5G-enabled video flows to control rooms and incident commanders will deliver a complete operational picture that can save lives and property.

Similarly, 5G can aid with emergency medical response by providing remote video consultations with experts. New 5G URLLC mechanisms are being designed that can potentially bring remote robotic interventions to address hazardous materials crises. Taken together, these 5G features will serve as an important enabler for future safe city deployments.

Although challenges remain in 5G adoption such as

component cost, device availability, and network coverage for high-capacity spectrum bands, 5G has the potential to facilitate new capabilities in video surveillance for safe and smart cities. And while it may still be early days for 5G, many vendors involved in 5G development point to the technology being further along in advancement compared to 4G progress at a similar stage.

The Uncomfortable Truth in Deepfake Video Surveillance

I

HS Markit recently published a report showing that installed video surveillance cameras worldwide rose from 170 million in 2012 to 770 million in 2019. At the same time, footage recorded by many of these cameras became an integral part of criminal or civil court cases, in the form of video evidence. Video surveillance footage used as evidence often engages well with a judge’s or jury’s understanding of cases, based on the premise that ‘seeing is believing.’

However, advances in deep learning and artificial intelligence have made it much easier and quicker to doctor and falsify video. Fake videos can be created very quickly by stitching a person’s images onto unrelated video footage, typically one of a different person. Video content can, therefore, be forged, altered to present something that did not take place. Altering video content this way is known as deepfake technology, which has successfully demonstrated through many real-life cases a fearsome capability to cause confusion between real and fake videos. These developments are particularly concerning, as deepfake has the potential to affect confidence in video surveillance evidence.

While many initial uses of deepfake technology have so far been pornographic in nature, the technology is being used

by Hollywood as a method for applying special effects.

Deepfake has also found its way into politics. For instance, a suspected deepfake of Gabon President Ali Bongo played a role in an unsuccessful military coup. In another example, a Malaysian economic affairs minister claimed that a politically damaging video of him was, in fact, a deepfake.

In this sense, deepfake videos can be used to spread ‘fake news’ or propaganda.

Technology companies are now scrambling to address the threat of deepfakes, which have emerged as another branch of misinformation along with fake news, spread through social media platforms. Technologies are currently being developed to distinguish real videos from fakes.

Video surveillance vendors have a role to play to combat deepfakes. Adept cybersecurity and data protection of both cameras and the wider video surveillance systems are once more the key starting points in any security initiative, given the emphasis of deepfakes on cybersecurity fundamentals.

Also important in addressing the threat posed by deepfake video surveillance is maintaining the digital chain of custody of video evidence – from video-surveillance capture at the camera, through video management software, and to evidence management software.

The chain of custody is the chronological record of the control and possession of a piece of evidence from capture to

presentation. It is, therefore, an essential standard to uphold for the maintenance of the legal importance of evidence.

Product features of video surveillance and evidence-management systems include end-to-end encryption, customiz-

able user permissions, and audit logs.

From IoT to AIoT: Merging Artificial Intelligence with the Internet of Things

O

ne buzzword likely to become even more popular in 2020 is AIoT, a portmanteau of the acronym for artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT). AIoT has been created to describe the influx of AI capabilities into IoT devices and the ability of large networks of IoT devices to distribute AI capabilities across the edge, endpoint, and the cloud. The essence of AIoT lies in the utilization of data collected from various types of sensors.

Marketing AIoT has become a focus for Chinese video surveillance vendors eager to provide IoT solutions within their core video competency. Given that large amounts of intelligent cameras are now linked to or combined with other devices under the AIoT umbrella, video is no longer just for surveillance and security. New, unorthodox combinations and products are now possible – examples include cameras combined with fire detectors, sprinkler systems, and alarms; access control; and thermohygrograph sensors for measuring temperature and humidity.

In safe cities in China, the AIoT concept is familiar to the public through city management platforms like Alibaba’s ET City Brain and Huawei’s Smart City Nervous System. With recent developments in edge computing, AIoT is also being applied to specific solutions typically focused on smaller projects such as retail parks, parking, education campuses, and industrial/ business parks.

As a marketing concept, AIoT is still at a very early stage.

Even so, more solutions containing multiple types of intelli-

gence devices – not just cameras – are appearing, packaged together with an appropriate management appliance targeted at specific vertical markets.

Smart campus pecific solutions – particularly those from Chinese vendors incorporating AIoT features aimed at education or business campuses – are increasingly popular. Video analytics, facial recognition, and automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR) are among the highly marketed features.

In these solutions, student and staff ID checks are fulfilled primarily through facial recognition, not by traditional IC card technology. Together with the personnel information system, facial recognition can be used to gain access to campus facilities, make payments at the cafeteria, and validate class attendance. ANPR cameras are also used at entry/ exit gates at a school’s parking to control vehicle access and generate parking charges.

Analytics at the Edge for Video Surveillance

I

n last year’s trends, a key discussion point was the development of advanced system-on-chips (SoCs) for analytics at the edge – in particular, for deep learning analytics at the edge. Fortunately for the space, developments in 2019 have proven to be positive.

When cameras enabled with deep learning acceleration (DLA) were first launched in 2016, very few DLA chipset options were available to video surveillance vendors. The NVIDIA Tegra and the Movidius Myriad were typically used by the few vendors that wanted to showcase their DLA cameras.

However, when they started shipping cameras, their AI algorithms were commonly running on traditional high-end SOCs. The relative high price and high-power consumption of chip solutions held back growth in the market for DLA cameras.

IHS Markit expects that during the forecast period, SOCs in network cameras will increasingly integrate DLA subsystems to become process-embedded vision analytics, forgoing the need for additional processing power from a graphics or DLA coprocessor. Application-specific SoCs with lower 70

power consumption and a compact design are also emerging in this market. For their part, established semiconductor giants and smaller start-ups alike are developing SoCs to process embedded vision analysis in cameras. The SoCs will prove beneficial in large-scale productions aimed at the price-sensitive mass market.

Aside from the processor manufacturers, some camera manufacturers have also continued developing processors for their high-end camera lines. In 2019 both Hanwha Techwin and Axis Communication released their own processors – Hanwha with the Wisenet 7 SoC, and Axis with the ARTPEC-7. Both chips enable real-time object-detection engines in the cameras, enabling partners to develop analytics that automatically detect and differentiate people, faces, and objects.

As in the smartphone market, capabilities are developing quickly in the video surveillance camera. In just a couple of years, the cameras progressed from ‘dumb’ cameras incapable of processing video analytics, to ‘smart’ cameras that could process simple pixel-based analysis, to ‘AI’ cameras

These advancements will continue, and mass-market cameras in 2020 will be able to simultaneously process numerous complex analytics at – or from – a single video stream at the edge.

However, while the cameras are leaning toward DLA for vision analysis, extensive and complex AI analysis will still be processed centrally on the recorder or server for content analysis, and decision-making will be undertaken in a distributed processing architecture.

Moving the Cloud on Premise he movement of video surveillance into the cloud is gathering momentum, but this does not indicate a paradigm shift just yet as the cloud is far from being the industry standard. Many installations are good candidates for some element of the cloud. At present, small-channel-count-systems and those containing multiple sites of fewer channels have been the most suitable for cloud-based off-site management and storage.

In other installations that utilize the cloud, a hybrid approach is typical. Here not all video surveillance management and storage are moved off-premises to a public or private cloud, often because of privacy concerns on video data and the cost of deploying a full cloud infrastructure.

Guaranteeing the high bandwidth required to move large amounts of video surveillance off-site is still perceived to be too high a cost for many. When faced by these costs, many IT departments likely find a hybrid or on-site approach to be more affordable. Increasingly video surveillance systems are the responsibility of the IT department. In some organizations in line with a general IT cloud strategy, migrating as many systems as possible to the cloud is a priority. This may stall once the costs are explored, the IT department then must investigate other options. Yet, this does not mean elements of the architecture used in cloud video surveillance must be sacrificed.

Hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) is increasingly being marketed at video surveillance installations to enable the ‘cloud on premise.’ HCI is the concept of bringing together three major components of IT infrastructure (compute, stor-

age, and networking), and using software to virtualize and manage them as a flexible resource. Traditionally deployed in separate frameworks, HCI brings together compute servers, storage networks or direct attached arrays, and networking switches via a single server containing an integrated software stack, providing orchestration and virtualization of all three.

HCI and virtualization gained much initial popularity in large enterprise datacenters, particularly those that power what many people think of as ‘the cloud.’ These deployments allowed for the efficient use of all available resources at any one time over a variety of different workloads. The trend has filtered down to smaller enterprise and edge deployments in many IT workloads, to the point that HCI and virtualization are now a standard approach in many enterprise environments.

The approach is part of nearly all major IT vendor portfolios. For instance, RedHat offers virtualization through a Linux-based open-source software, a type of technology anticipated to become a core part of IT infrastructure, especially for edge deployments. Earlier this year, Intel paid $34 billion to acquire RedHat. Compared to the wider IT market, the adoption of these technologies has been slower in video surveillance and electronic physical security. But as larger deployments are architected toward collecting multiple nodes and other systems, an increasing amount of video surveillance infrastructure will likely be covered by these approaches, a move that will also find favor in IT departments.

The NIST Privacy Framework is not a law or regulation, rather a voluntary tool that can help organizations manage privacy risk arising from their products and services, as well as demonstrate compliance with laws that may affect them such as the California Consumer Privacy Act and the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation. It helps organizations identify the privacy outcomes they want to achieve and then prioritize the actions needed to do so.

“What you’ll find in the framework are building blocks that can help you achieve your privacy goals, which may include laws your organization needs to follow,” said Naomi Lefkovitz, a Senior Privacy Policy Adviser at NIST and Leader of the framework effort, “If you want to consider how to increase customer trust through more privacy-protective products or services, the framework can help you do that. But we designed it to be agnostic to any law, so it can assist you no matter what your goals are.”

Privacy as a basic right in the USA has roots in the U.S. Constitution, but its application in the digital age is still evolving, in part because technology itself is changing at a rapidly accelerating pace. New uses for data pop up regularly, especially in the context of the internet of things and artificial intelligence, which together promise to gather and analyze patterns in the real world that previously have gone unrecognized. With these opportunities come new risks.

“A class of personal data that we consider to be of low value today may have a whole new use in a couple of years,”

Lefkovitz said, “Or you might have two classes of data that are not sensitive on their own, but if you put them together they suddenly may become sensitive as a unit. That’s why you need a framework for privacy risk management, not just a checklist of tasks. You need an approach that allows you to continually re-evaluate and adjust to new risks.”

The Privacy Framework 1.0 has an overarching structure modeled on that of the widely used NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and the two frameworks are designed to be complementary and also updated over time.

“Privacy and security are related but distinct concepts, and merely adopting a good security posture does not necessarily mean that an organization is addressing all its privacy needs” said Lefkovitz.

As with its draft version, the Privacy Framework centers on three sections – the Core, which offers a set of privacy protection activities; the Profiles, which help determine which of the activities in the Core an organization should pursue to reach its goals most effectively, and the Implementation Tiers, which help optimize the resources dedicated to managing privacy risk.

The NIST authors plan to continue building on their work to benefit the framework’s users. Digital privacy risk management is a comparatively new concept, and Lefkovitz said they received many requests for clarification about the nature of privacy risk, as well as for additional supporting resources.

“People continue to yearn for more guidance on how to do privacy risk management,” she said, “We have released a companion roadmap for the framework to point the way toward more research to address current privacy challenges, and we are building a repository of guidance resources to support implementation of the framework. We hope the community of users will contribute to it to advance privacy for the good of all.”

Facial Recognition Hardware to Feature on Over 800M Mobiles by 2024, but Software Will Win Out Facial recognition hardware to grow over 50% each year, but software solutions to be present on 1.3 billion devices by 2024 new report from Juniper Research found that facial recognition hardware such as Face ID on recent iPhones, will be the fastest growing form of smartphone biometric hardware. This means it will reach over 800 million in 2024, compared to an estimated 96 million in 2019.

The new research, Mobile Payment Authentication – Biometrics, Regulation & Forecasts 2019-2024, however, notes that the majority of smartphone facial recognition will be software-based, with over 1.3 billion devices having that capability by 2024. This is made possible by advances in AI, with companies like iProov and Mastercard offering facial recognition authentication that is strong enough to be used for payment and other highend authentication tasks. Juniper Research recommends that all vendors embrace AI to drive further developments of capabilities and therefore increase customer acquisition.

Juniper Research anticipates over 4.6 billion smartphones worldwide will have fingerprint sensors installed by 2024, although their usage for payment will be significantly lower than this.

This expansion of biometric capabilities will bring the technology to more e-commerce platforms, as retailers seek to meet enhanced security requirements. Originally envisioned for contactless payment use, the report expects over 60% of biometrically authenticated payments in 2024 will be for authorising remote payments. As the longest running biometric modality, fingerprint payments will take the lead in this market as standards coalesce around the technology more easily than for facial recognition payments.

“Many consumers are now used to making fingerprint-based biometric payments, both for contactless and remote payments,” remarked Research Author James Moar, “That familiarity and continued inclusion in smartphones will make it hard to displace in many markets.”

Hosts 21st Developers’ Plugfest in Rome

NVIF®, the leading global standardization initiative for IP-based physical security products, hosted its 21st Developers’ Plugfest late last year in Rome, an event that highlighted the continued demand for interoperable solutions.

More than 30 developers and engineers from 18 ONVIF member companies gathered for this multi-day event, which featured 164 hours of testing. Attendees tested their implementations of ONVIF profiles along with other ONVIF profile-conformant products. Developers could also test products independently for profile conformance, as well as assess interoperability between their devices and those from other manufacturers.

“The collaboration and exchange of ideas necessary for interoperability does not happen in a vacuum and as such, these events provide valuable face to face time for our members,” said Per Björkdahl, Chair of the ONVIF Steering Committee, “We are grateful for the continued support from our member companies and developers to help us continue to maintain profiles.”

2020 Triples Rebooking Rate as Middle East Commercial Security Market Slated for 16% Annual Growth to 2025 Global trade event reaffirms Dubai’s position as a hub for pioneering security & safety products and solutions ntersec, the region’s leading trade fair for security, safety and fire protection, has recorded its highest rebooking rate with 150 exhibitors signing up for the 2021 event immediately after January’s show which represents a 200% increase from 2019’s onsite recommitments.

The rebookings come in the wake of a 6W Research report which forecasts the Middle East’s commercial security market will grow 16% a year to 2025 to be worth US$8.4 billion.

“This strong rebooking performance acknowledges the high potential of the regional security market and Intersec’s ability to reach key buyers,” said Andreas Rex, Show Director for Messe Frankfurt Middle East, which organises the Intersec exhibition and conference series.

A pre-audited visitor count from January’s event – the 22nd in the annual series which ran from 19-21 January shows Intersec 2020 attracted 33,584 from 135 countries to Dubai World Trade Centre. With 1,100 exhibitors from 56 countries including two-third of the world’s top 50 security manufacturers, long-established exhibitors were impressed by the show’s expanding geographic reach.

Protecting critical data with an off-line copy ape has proven to be an effective line of defense against ransomware and is shown to be resilient against modern cyberattacks. While most companies back up data to disk on a regular basis, when ransomware viruses target backup systems, those viruses can lay dormant and undetected on the network until eventually triggering an infection throughout the entire backup environment. The ransomware can then infect data on disk – including replicated copies, even in the cloud.

Storing and protecting data off-line has significant benefits. When disk is compromised, storing critical data on an on-premise off-line vaulted partition in the library reduces the complexity of recovering a production environment from the cloud, eliminating egress charges. Sophos also published research, Fleeceware Apps Persist on the Play Store, that details new findings on fleeceware applications that overcharge unsuspecting consumers for functionality widely available in other free or low-cost apps.

lbit Systems completed a successful field demonstration of its patented Hydrop system, an innovative solution enabling high-altitude high-precision aerial firefighting. The field demonstration took place recently as part of an exercise led by the Israel Fire and Rescue Authority. During the exercise two Air Tractor aircraft from the Israeli Fire Fighting

of pellets per hour. The biodegradable pellets which can be filled with either water, foam or fire retardant, have been proved to have no harmful residues and their dropping has also been tested and found to be safe to crews on the ground.

Squadron were directed to extinguish a burning field, from as high as 500 ft., more than four times higher than the average altitude of a standard aerial firefighting sortie. Using the HyDrop system each aircraft launched 1.6 tons of 140 gram liquid pellets in a computed ballistic trajectory, achieving a precise hit with saturation of 1-2 liter per 1 square meter.

Since 1953, aerial firefighting has been carried out using liquid cascade drop methods that require sorties to be conducted at an altitude of a 100-120 ft. in order to reduce liquid loss caused by the aerosol effect. Such low-altitude flights are restricted to daytime due to safety concerns and Civil Aviation regulations. The experience from around the globe clearly shows that restricting aerial firefighting to daytime severely degrades its operational contribution. Addressing this needs gap, Elbit Systems developed the Hydrop system that enables a high-precision computed launch of bio-degradable liquid pellets from 500-2,000 ft., altitudes that are safe and certified for night flight by Civil Aviation.

With Helicopter, fixed wing and heavy lifter configurations, Hydrop integrates fighter aircraft avionics including a ballistic computer, command and control (C2) system and advanced display systems, together with liquid pellets stored in a specially designed airborne dispenser. The C2 unit navigates the aircraft to the drop point while the ballistic computer produces an accurate launch trajectory, taking into account aircraft velocity, altitude, GPS location, wind conditions, and the weight and shape of the liquid pellets. In addition to lifting the restriction on night-time aerial firefighting, this high-altitude system improves pilots safety and increases the effectiveness of aerial firefighting, during day and night, by eliminating the liquid loss caused by the aerosol effect.

The Hydrop system includes a pellets manufacturing machine (static or mobile). Housed in a standard 20ft. container, the manufacturing machine can produce up to 10 tons 92
