Cada día llegan más visitantes a nuestra ciudad y, por ello, en esta guía encontrará temas específicos, frases de situaciones donde es necesaria la comunicación, expresiones y palabras comunes indispensables no solo para los diferentes eventos y ferias sino también para el sector del turismo, hotelero, los aeropuertos, restaurantes, centros culturales y de entretenimiento, atractivos turísticos, recomendaciones e información relevante sobre Medellín la cual está organizada de una manera clara y clasificada por temáticas lo que facilita su búsqueda y permite una simple interacción con el visitante. Medellín is the second biggest city in Colombia. It has a population of 2.5 million people. With its surrounding area, the "Aburrá" Valley, which includes nine other municipalities, is the second largest urban agglomeration in Colombia in terms of population and economy, with more than 4.6 million people living here. Medellín has two airports, a local airport and an international airport located in Rionegro. It also has an enviable integrated transportation system made up of the Metro, Metro Cable, Metro Plus, Trolleybuses or Streetcars, Buses and Taxis which makes transportation easy in the city. Thanks to this innovative transportation system, getting to and from the different extremes of the city becomes pleasurable and the perfect way for any visitor to experience the city first-hand, as the views from the Metro Cable while it climbs up the mountain are breathtaking. 30°C. It is very spring-like, therefore its nickname "The City of Eternal Spring". People from Medellín are called "Paisas" and they are very welcoming and friendly, always willing to lend a hand. They are also very innovative and creative, and are well known for their typical cuisine and regionalism. Medellín is recognized for its fairs and festivals. The main attraction is the "Feria de Flores" or Flower Festival, which is held in August. In this festival, Plaza Mayor visitors can witness the breathtaking "Desfile de Silleteros" or Silleteros Parade, where beautiful flowers are showcased on "silletas" or rustic wooden structures used for transporting flowers on people's shoulders. The farmers and flower growers who live in Santa Elena (a small town on the outskirts of Medellín), bring the gorgeous flower displays and showcase them during the parade. This event is definitely something all visitors must witness as it is one-of-a-kind. Other important fairs in Medellín are Colombiamoda and Colombiatex, where Medellín shows visitors why it is known as the textile and fashion capital of Colombia. At these events, which are focused on "haute couture" and materials for the fashion industry, the city of Medellín is inundated with an array of runway shows as well as international retail companies which come to finalize deals with Colombian textile manufacturers.
Due to their historical and socially important value to the city, Medellín is home to several places of national patrimony. These places will amaze you with their stunning architecture that is filled with history and wonderful imagery that paint stories of times of yore. Fall in love with the originality, aesthetics and authenticity that characterize these iconic places like the Carré and Vásquez Buildings, or the city's museums, which house interesting collections of cultural patrimony, such as the "Museo de Antioquia", the "Fundación Casa Museo Pedro Nel Gómez", the "Museo El Castillo", the "Museo de la Universidad de Antioquia" and the "Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín", among others. When visitors arrive to Medellín and are able to view and experience the transformation that the city has been going through, they definitely have to visit the different Library Parks or Parques Bibliotecas, as these definitely exemplify this exciting journey of transition.
