The baby bottle drive is to raise money for two local women’s shelters. After service, please see the MOM table outside of the Fannie Goodwin building to pick up a baby bottle and register for the Annual Mother’s Day luncheon.

The Mission of Mercy Annual Mother’s Day Hattitude Tea Luncheon is Sat. April 30th from 11 am to 2 pm in the Fannie Goodwin Bldg. MOM is asking for a donation of $20.

The last day to register is April 17.

We join in celebration of “The National Day of the Holy Bible.” I will share certain insights I’ve learned over the years about Hebrew poetry.

The variety of songs, laments, and praises in this book caused it to be left unnamed in the Old Testament. The Jews referred to it as “The Book of Praises,” while the Septuagint entitled it “The Book of Psalms” (from a Greek word indicating songs sung to the accomplishment of stringed instruments). The book was the hymnal of the Jewish people.

NATURE OF HEBREW POETRY unlike much of Western poetry is not based on rhyme or meter, but on rhythm and parallelism. I learned years ago that Hebrew rhythm is not achieved by balanced numbers of accented and unaccented syllables, but by total stress or accent on important words.

If my memory does not fail me, I recall the lessons in Music Classes during my theological preparation that in parallelism, the poet states an idea in the first line, then reinforces it by various means in the succeeding line or lines. The most common type is synonymous parallelism, in which the second line contains essentially the idea of the first like in Psalm 1:1-2.

In emblematic parallelism, the second line elevates the thought of the first, often by using a simile as in Psalm 42:1. Thus, parallelism is not restricted to two lines, but may extend to strophes (smaller units of few lines and stanzas larger unite).

The alphabetic acrostic is also used here in Psalm 119; introduction to the poetical book of Lamentations. Thus, this wisdom psalm beginning in Psalm 119:105-112, vows to follow God’s Word always. This should be our aim.

Aleph starts out by saying: “Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD!” Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart” (Psalm 105:1,2) NKJV. We are further encouraged by Aleph when he says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light along my path” (Psalm 119: stanzas 105). Beginning with stanza 105 to 112, the walk of the righteous is encouraged.

Therefore, let the saints of my parish flock return to the reverence and respect of the Holy Bible, and let it have an important place in your heart, home, and wherever you go as a witness to others. Do not be ashamed to carry your Bible as a witness to others that they may be reminded of the greatness of God. Amen Until He Comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully, Bishop Dr. Wm.
