* Call to Worship

Rev. Dr. Erin McGee

Rev. Chris Henry

Rev. Rae Karim

One: When forces in the world threaten us, when our bodies or spirits turn against us, there is One who seeks us, One who meets us, One who heals us, whose love washes over us and sets us free for joy. We have come to worship the One, our God, the living God.

All: Who calls prophets and teachers, children and elders to bear witness.

One: We have come to praise God, the almighty God.

All: Who answers the forces of hatred and hurt with the power of grace and courage.

One: We have come to bless God, the loving God.

All: Who gathers us into community and empowers us to be a sacred presence in the world.

One: We have come to worship God, all-gracious God.

All: Who chooses you and me, to receive and carry the Word of life and hope. We behold in the Spirit of truth your glory and our calling and will ever praise your name!

Invitation to Confession

Prayer of Confession

O Lord our God, you call us to proclaim the Gospel, but we remain silent in the presence of evil. You call us to be reconciled to you and one another, but we are content to live in separation. You call us to seek the good of all, but we fail to resist the powers of oppression. You call us to fight pretensions and injustice, but we sit idly by, endangering the lives of people far and near.

Forgive us, O Lord. Reconcile us to you by the power of your Spirit, and give us the courage and strength to be reconciled to others; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Savior. (Silent Prayer)

Statement on Ordination

Profession of Faith

With the whole church let us confess our faith.

Do you believe in God the Father?

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Moderator Ron Snow
Rev. Karen Lang

Constitutional Questions to the Candidate

Do you trust in the Lord Jesus Christ your Savior, acknowledge him Lord of all and Head of the Church, and through him believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? I do.

Do you accept the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be, by the Holy Spirit, the unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ in the Church universal, and God’s Word to you? I do.

Do you sincerely receive and adopt the essential tenets of the Reformed faith as expressed in the confessions of our church as authentic and reliable expositions of what Scripture leads us to believe and do, and will you be instructed and led by those confessions as you lead the people of God? I do and I will.

Will you fulfill your ministry in obedience to Jesus Christ, under the authority of Scripture, and be continually guided by our confessions? I will.

Will you be governed by our church’s polity, and will you abide by its discipline? Will you be a friend among your colleagues in ministry, working with them, subject to the ordering of God’s Word and Spirit? I will.

Will you in your own life seek to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, love your neighbors, and work for the reconciliation of the world? I will.

Do you promise to further the peace, unity, and purity of the church? I do.

Will you pray for and seek to serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love? I will.

Will you be a faithful teaching elder, proclaiming the good news in Word and Sacrament, teaching faith and caring for people? Will you be active in government and discipline, serving in the councils of the church; and in your ministry will you try to show the love and justice of Jesus Christ? I will.

Constitutional Questions to the Congregation

Do we, the members of the church, accept Tom as our Associate Pastor, chosen by God through the voice of this congregation to guide us in the way of Jesus Christ? We do.

Do we agree to pray for him, encourage him, to respect his decisions, and to follow as he guides us, serving Jesus Christ who alone is Head of the Church? We do.

Do we promise to pay him fairly and provide for his welfare as he works among us; to stand by him in trouble and share his joys? Will we listen to the word he preaches, welcome his pastoral care, and honor his authority as he seeks to honor and obey Jesus Christ our Lord? We do and we will.
