Shoreline Christian Reformed Church

God is calling us to be a church marked by: Loving God Connecting People Transforming our World

Welcome

April 30, 2017 Worship Service: 10:00 a.m. The message this morning will be delivered through a beautiful Choir Cantata by Joseph and Pamela Martin, entitled "A Time for Alleluia." With moving narration and media, our choir will guide us through the seasons of Christ's life and ministry. Using Ecclesiastes as the Biblical basis for the narration, this work will take us on a journey of faith that will impact the hearts of all who hear it.

Today Nursery: The Nursery is available downstairs for children (newborn–age 3) during the morning service. Children’s Church (ages 4-8) will NOT be meeting today so that the kids can enjoy the Choir Cantata with their parents. Sunday School classes will meet after the morning service today and will dismiss by noon. All children from K-Grade 12 are invited! Grow Groups (Senior Adults) Grow Groups will meet at a combined potluck today at Noon. Come join us at the Holly home for good food and fellowship.

Next Week Sunday's Message: Brian Turnbull will be in the pulpit next week kicking off a new sermon series on Outreach, themed, "Taking it to the Streets." Brian's sermon entitled, "The Adamic Covenant: It's Your World, Too" and will be taken from Genesis 1:28-31. Communion: Next week, we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper together. Over the coming week, prepare your heart to confess at the Lord’s table so that you seek your salvation in Jesus Christ. Two Offerings: We will collect two offerings. The first offering will be directed toward our Local Operating Budget (LOB), and the second Benevolence offering will go to the local church. Thank you for being a prayerful and generous church body! Cookie Social: We will enjoy our monthly cookie social after the service. For those of you whose last name begins with S-Z, please bring 2–3 dozen treats to share.

However, the reference to a swan is somewhat more oblique. Birds are a common metaphor or symbol for God. The dove often represents the Holy Spirit. The pelican often represents Christ because in legend it pierces its own chest to feed its young in an act of self-sacrificial love. The swan is often a symbol of death and of transformation. Because of its sunken cheeks and its sometimes blackened eyes, the early Celts probably linked the swan’s image to that of a crucified man who had been beaten. Such descriptions are found in Isaiah 53:2-3 and 50:6. Through the mystery of the cross, the ugliness of crucifixion was transformed by the beauty of resurrection. It is in the metaphoric spirit of the poet that the text is used as written.

Prayer Support: The Pastor and Elders are available at the front to pray with and for you. Parents: Thank you for picking up your children from the Nursery immediately after the service. Coffee and Fellowship: Please join us in the Foyer for coffee and fellowship.

Shoreline Christian Reformed Church is a gospel and grace-centered community learning how to follow Jesus. We belong to a broader community called The Christian Reformed Church. What does this mean? We call ourselves… Christian… Because we belong to Jesus Christ and want to be his followers. Reformed… Because we’re part of the historic branch of the Christian church that follows the teachings of the leaders of the Protestant Reformation, who struggled to return Christianity to its biblical roots. Church… Because God has called us to be a fellowship of his people in the world.
