First Christian Reformed Church of Seattle

God is calling us to be a church marked by: Loving God Connecting People Transforming our World

Welcome

January 1, 2017 Worship Service: 10:00 a.m. Pastor: Eric Likkel Message: Who's That Coming This Way? —Strangers Gaze at Two Stars Next Week: Pastor Brian Turnbull will kick off a new sermon series on the Theology of Worship, entltled, "O Worship the King." His sermon will focus on Adam and Eve and how worship was meant to be, and will be taken from Genesis 1:26-2:3.

Today Nursery: The Nursery is available downstairs for children (newborn–age 3) during the morning service. Children’s Church (ages 4-8) will NOT meet today. We will resume next week. Sunday School classes will NOT meet after the morning service today. We will resume our regular Sunday School schedule next week. Communion: Today we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper together. We welcome you to the table, whether you are a member or visitor, if you have searched your heart and can make the following statements: •

I recognize that I am a sinner and I am genuinely sorry for all my sins.

I trust in Jesus Christ as my only Savior and Lord, and I earnestly desire to live my life in obedience to him.

I have made public profession of faith in Jesus Christ, and I am a member in good standing of His church.

Two Offerings: During this past week, we were asked to prepare our hearts to hear the Lord’s direction on how He would want each of us to give for the two offerings that will be collected this morning. The first one will be directed toward our Local Operating Budget (LOB), and the second will go to Benevolence. Thank you for being a prayerful and generous church body!

Table Talk—Church Identity Our last Table Talk on Nov. 13 regarding Church Identity demonstrated that there was widespread eagerness to participate in the discussion about how to identify ourselves to the community we serve. As we consider a pending church name change, we want to be clear and compelling in communicating who we are and what we're about. Because the last Table Talk was so wellattended, the Council is planning another one to allow for more participation. This will be a repeat of the 11/13 one, so don't feel a need to attend again if you came to the first one. If you have any questions, please contact Wayne Clousing. Sunday, January 15, 2016 - 11:30 a.m. Multi-Purpose Room Please join us if this is a topic of interest to you. If you have any questions, please contact Wayne Clousing.

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT)

First Christian Reformed Church of Seattle is a gospel and grace-centered community learning how to follow Jesus. We belong to a broader community called The Christian Reformed Church. What does this mean? We call ourselves… Christian… Because we belong to Jesus Christ and want to be his followers. Reformed… Because we’re part of the historic branch of the Christian church that follows the teachings of the leaders of the Protestant Reformation, who struggled to return Christianity to its biblical roots. Church… Because God has called us to be a fellowship of his people in the world.
