A AMY KARTHEISER HAS TURNED A PROBLEM INTO A BEAUTIFUL, WELL-DESIGNED SOLUTION IN THIS CHIGAGO HOME. THE CHOICE OF NATURAL MATERIALS CREATES A SPACE THAT IS WARM AND INVITING, YET STILL DECIDEDLY MODERN. WE SPOKE WITH AMY TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS IMPECCABLE KITCHEN PROJECT.
The clients were referred to us by a previous client, which is always exciting for us. Based in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood, the husband and wife wanted to design a kitchen that solved a unique set of problems: the husband was tall and always hitting his head on the previous stove hood, and they were lacking valuable seating for their family. To tackle these design challenges, we removed the stove (and hood) from the island, and added additional seating around it, making the space perfect for shared family meals and after school homework. In addition to these reconfigurations, a complete kitchen update followed suit.
