COVER STORY

NATURALLY NEUTRAL

A thoughtful concept and textural material palette showcases Aspen designer ROBYN SCOTT's trademark signature - blending indoors and outdoors together seamlessly.

Just outside of Denver, designer Robyn Scott has put her touch on a stunning home that pairs modernity with a mountain resort feel. Surrounded by natural Colorado beauty, the homeowners have access to hiking and biking trails and amazing views. Top on the list of her client's priorities? Blending the wide open natural scenes unfolding outside, with equally spacious vistas inside, for a seamless balance. Robyn found the solution with balance. The interior speaks to the exterior through materials that reference the outdoors and neutral tones... without competing.

Working with Woodley Architects, they created a family-friendly home that seamlessly blends indoors and outdoors. Features like a wood ceiling in the living room with similar materials in the outdoor space and a spectacular staircase that seems to float on air provide a natural, spacious feel to the home.

Because of her expertise in indoor/ outdoor living design, Scott was

selected to create a concept. She worked closely with the architect on material selections and guided the homeowners in selecting furnishings based on the concept. The result is a home that is livable and durable enough to sustain daily family use while still being timelessly modern.

Designing for this climate can be tricky, but fortunately Robyn knows the ropes. In a place that gets snow 4-5 months per year, indoor/outdoor living means selecting the right materials and furnishings to protect your investment. Things that can withstand the freeze/thaw element are critical. Quick-dry cushions for outdoor furniture are indispensable and save time and the cost of routine replacement.

Robyn adds that in mountainous areas the right woods, which have been acclimated, are essential to avoid shrinkage. She also recommends radiant floor heating for stone or concrete flooring. Your designer, builder, and architect are important for steering you in the right direction for unique challenges... like doorknobs instead of levers to keep the bears out.
