Causes of conflicts between maids and their bosses Many of us would wish to be treated well at our places of work. Sometimes, it may be hard to achieve a smooth working relationship between a maid and her boss. The following are the main causes of conflict between maids and their bosses; 1. Poor or low productivity Your previous maid might have been very active or hard working. This might not be the case with your current maid. This can be a source of conflict between most bosses and their maids. You should not compare your current helper with the previous one. Instead, go through her daily routine and explain to her what she is supposed to be doing so as to show an improvement.

2. Failure to follow instructions Some maids do not follow instructions from their bosses. Other employers do not give clear instructions to their maids. The employer should be clear while giving instructions and make clarifications when and where necessary. After a job well done, appreciate your maid so as to motivate her for a better performance next time.

3. Poor hygiene by the maid Some employers come across maids with poor personal hyegine, which can be a source of conflict. As her boss, talk to her and show her the way to improve on her hygiene. Tell her what you have observed and request for changes politely.

4. Failure to speak out by the maid The maid might make a mistake, or she may negative might happen to her. The employer should allow the maid to be open whenever she experiences any challenges. The maid might accidentally break a glass, or your child may get hurt while under her care. She might choose to remain silent for fear of her boss. Assure her that you won’t punish her and explain to her why it is important to keep you informed.

5. Always waiting for instructions Some maids will only act after getting instructions from their bosses, but they cannot make their own decisions and act based on them. If you would like her to be active, ask for her opinion on how to do certain things. For example, say: “I would like you to

organize the house. Can you think of the best way to get everything neat and tidy?’’

When she does the work, praise her efforts to motivate her.

6. Overusing her mobile phone Some maids will stay glued to the screens of their phones even when doing some duties such as cooking. As a maid, you should only operate your phone only when attending to emergency cases or during your break times but not while working. When cooking, don’t use your phone so as to avoid mistakes.

7. Eavesdropping conversations with visitors It is up to you to set boundaries on how you will be relating with each other when then visitors come, otherwise, you may conflict over it. If your maid feels like she is part of the family, she will take an interest on what goes on in the house. Make it clear to her that she must respect the family’s personal issues.

8. Failure to give the maid time to rest Some bosses do not allow their maids to take time off their job or go out for shopping or attend to private matters. Some bosses do not allow them to go and celebrate vacations.

They may stay in the house for years without giving them the right of freedom to go out.

Everyone needs some time to break from their daily routine and get refreshed. Allowing a maid to go for offs will motivate her and renew her strength when doing her daily tasks.
