In July of 2015 I became estranged from my parents and sister. What ensued afterwards was a deep and meaningful dive into the depths of my soul. I discovered I could write poetry through my therapy sessions. My poems became my catharsis, my poetry became my voice. The ebb and flow of my every single emotion.I lost my Mom five years into the estrangement, devastating to any child. Under our circumstances it was earth shattering for me. I knew nothing of her illness, nor her death. My family, including extended who knew hid her illness and death from me. Someone outside that circle sent condolences on her passing- that is how I learned I lost my Mom. A lot of my poetry encompasses these turmoils.Alas not all is lost. My relationship with my husband, children and nature strengthened over these years: a new found respect one might say. I am a true believer that everything in life happens for a reason- we just might not know if it is a blessing or a lesson. This has been both for me- I truly feel I have come full circle. I have written a lot of beautiful works about love, death and nature- the kind that heals the heart and keeps the soul alive.I am hopeful my poetry will touch even one individual and set their emotional spirit free. It is a comfort to know we are never alone in this life. We often feel loneliness but we are not as unique in our emotions as one might imagine. Many BlessingsKelly Douglas
