ASSEMBLY
Using the Rhino and Grasshopper programs to create a Voronoi diagram pattern on a 2D plane that is a net representation of a 3D shape, which folds into a 3D object. Tabs and slits are included on the edges to create a self-fastening object
An exploratory process resulted in a tower-like object that geometrically corkscrews upwards, featuring sharp folds and openings.
Work Experience - Framework-E Architecture
Straight Gate International Church (S.G.I.C.)
- Various Sheets

My jo included creating various sheets that included demo plans, life safety plans, sections, and millwork. This work contributed to a full set of construction drawings that was successfully delivered on schedule.

S.G.I.C. is an existing building that the client wanted to assign a new program to. This transformation required much demolition, changing the existing floor plans. The building requires both a new roof and exterior windows, as reflected in these sheets. The adjacent 3D model shows a new entrance, and an attached elevator shaft was created by the offices the lead designer.

Each of the four quadrants in the floor plan below was modified to accommodate a series of offices that did not disrupt an existing central corridor, columns, and main exit doors to the exit ramps.

My key roles included creating various drawings that included demo plans, life safety plans, sections, and millwork. This work contributed to a full set of construction drawings that was successfully delivered on schedule.
Details include typical frame heads and frame jambs for both
windows and doors, `along with how they connect to either gypsum walls or CMU blocks. Particular attention includes the size and placement of hollow metal frames, sealant and backer rods, anchor clips, structural metal studs, and gypsum.
The storefront system section detail combines many parts working together, including shims, anchors, sealant, drip edge sil, and damp proofing, as related to the window frame and structural CMU.
Lastly, the section detail of the custom angular canopy shows how the structure and studs support the sloped roof, sheathing, insulation, and exterior veneer all in concert.

Medical Arts Building

Perspective
The Medical Arts Building is an technical exercise in Revit. Perspectives, site plan, room schedule, room legend, roof plan, floor plan, wall legend, roof detail, and section provide the kind of spectrum of basic drawings one could expect to create to best trying to understand the construction of a building.
A commercial building situated next to its parking lot has some distinguishing features that include an overhang around all but one side of the first level. Continuous running balconies that face the same direction as the primary entrance on the first level. The partially angular exterior wall above the main entrance on the first level
makes the exterior more dynamic and provides a consistent, windowless angular end to all balconies on each floor. Despite the building footprint and overall structure being square this angular wall creates a sharp angle giving the building dynanism. angularshaped arrow.

Roof Detail
Other drawings in this set include a roof plan, first level plan, wall legend, section, and roof detail. The roof plan highlights elevations for drainage. The floor plan highlights the area of each room, step count, and step height inside the stairwell. The section illustrates many elements including the roof slope, cantilevered balconies, and the structure of each floor, all supported by the visible foundation and footings.

The South Elevation acts as a billboard, a shaded entrance from the all-day sun, a pedestrian connection point to the riverfront, anode, and a social gathering space. The all glass facade offers solar heat gain in winter months
The east elevation offers views of the sun rising over Belle Isle, Detroit, green space, and the massive laker ships making their way up and down the Detroit River

The west elevation reveals how both windows and balconies take advantage of the views downriver shipping traffic, designated green space, pedestrian and cycling pathways. The elevation also shows the proximity to the street and the overhang above the ground-level entrance.

The three details below bring into focus the same areas highlighted in Section 1, as shown on the next page.
Section 1 reveals much about circulation, showing the open basement, groundlevel revolving door entrance, groundlevel lobby, 2ndlevel hallway, and 3rd-level hallway.

Past, Present + Alternative Futures
Part of the larger story of this site includes the connection to a glacial past, First Nations People, and European settlers. A once bountiful ecological wonder ripe for settlement, population growth, resource extraction, and industrialization. Now on the other side of the curve, the area has far fewer residents and industry, but must still contend with the natural forces that shaped it 10,000 years ago, along with the added pressures of climate change. Hopeful days remain if livable, natural social spaces are considered alongside mitigating the effects of climate change..

PRESENT DAY CONDITION
2021 - Construction Impact of Stellantis
Despite the Despite spending 7.1M on constructing this stormwater management project, the promise of naturalized walkable areas has yet to be realized. To date, no visible Stellantis enclosure wall beautification or artwork is present, and the fenced-in storm pond concept cuts off public space. What does exist is a massive wall enclosing the Stellantis plant.
The project involved redesigning the existing condition of Beniteau Street Park with a greater historical and contextual understanding and arriving at a user friendly program which opened up the fenced-in space.
GRAND MARAIS
Big Swamp - 1876

By 1874 Georg B. Moran set in motion plans to drain this large marsh where the Conners Creek outlet is located. The natural hydrological system was replaced by channeling water through canals farmers could access. The Conners Creek Pump Station is one of many engineered mechanisms designed to substitute the complex ecological and natural water management system of the marsh

Historical Map Overly - Conner Creek, Detroit, about Beniteau Street Park
This historical analysis reveals that a natural water management system was destroyed, and so it comes as no accident that a man-made system is required. This points to solutions that incorporate a renaturalization of the area..

ALTERNATIVE FUTURE I
North Section - Beniteau Storm Water Pond
This enlarged plan moving north incorporates social engagement with tiered access to walking, biking, hiking, socializing, and barbecuing along the east side of the pond right up to the wall. This graded intervention eliminates the entire fence and remains flexible enough to allow for various programs and flooding.

ALTERNATIVE FUTURE II
Perspective - South West Corner of Beniteau Storm Water Pond
This plan incorporates social engagement with tiered access to walking, sitting, socializing, and entertaining with a tiered small-scale outdoor amphitheater. This graded intervention made of natural materials eliminates the entire fence and allows for seating at the edge of the pond at various depths.
